Watching 'the secret life of 4 year olds' I noticed that Cuba was never told off for hitting Skyla and it was even seen as a positive trait by the experimenting scientists. How is that alright?

Sistersofpercy...That bit was brilliant.

SistersOfPercy · 14/02/2015 14:32

DD and I were howling at that. It didn't name her parents, we were waiting to see if her Dad was called Richard.

Gwenci · 14/02/2015 15:14

Jessica was amazing!!! Such a warm-hearted little sweetie and hilariously entertaining.

"The wall could be your boyfriend...Sometimes I kiss the wall."

Amazing!! I think Skyla was missing out refusing to be Jessica's friend!

Marylou62 · 14/02/2015 15:28

I didn't see all of this programme but the last 15 mins...I work with this age and I think it is a privalage...I often just sit quietly and listen....I am a nanny to a nearly 3 year old who I love and who loves me...I am blessed to have such a lovely job..( I was going to say most of the time but even his tantrums amuse me....must be a nanny thing because my own DCs tantrums made me feel like every other mother in the world....awful)

squoosh · 14/02/2015 22:56

The torture on Skyla's face as she was deciding whether to share her chocolate or not was wonderful!

Surprised people haven't heard of the name Chaim. Chaim Herzog.

MamaMary · 14/02/2015 23:00

Chaim's behaviour was shockingly bad. I'd be ashamed of him if I were his mum. But it's actually their fault, Sorry I found them appalling.

treesntrees · 14/02/2015 23:12

Chaim is a Jewish name not a made up name

Carrie5608 · 14/02/2015 23:16

i couldn't say my Dc eat wild berries but we pick blackberries and plums for jam and sloes for gin as its cheap and we live in the country side. A few do get eaten along the way.

natureplantar101 · 14/02/2015 23:27

Luke was the quiet one waiting his turn soo cute and sweet would love a child like that a bit Hmm at people judging Chaim's name shows how uneducated and integrated they are with other religions and communities Wink

almosthuman · 14/02/2015 23:36

Not everyone wants to name their child a traditional British name, I didn't and that's why I named my daughter Skyla.

UncleT · 15/02/2015 00:01

Obviously not everyone wants that, or there wouldn't be a few million Jaydens, Caydens, Braydens and Shaydens and the like out there now. The parents' prerogative entirely of course, but I won't pretend to like it. Obviously I don't really expect those who choose such names to give a crap, which is also their prerogative.

monkeymamma · 15/02/2015 00:36

Chaim's behavious was unacceptable in a four year old, but like the psychologists pointed out much of his behaviour was risk-taking behaviour and a sign of intelligence.

LePetitMarseillais · 15/02/2015 07:00

Sign of intelligence my arse.

My dc are intelligent as are their friends, none would ever have behaved like that.

It was grabby, spoilt behaviour pure and simple.

An intelligent child would be working out at 4 that what he wants he might not be able to have and that there are more preferable solutions.Grab, grab, grab is quite immature behaviour.

flipchart · 15/02/2015 07:32

Quintesentially
I love a good guessing game. Is the male celebrity you mentioned Simon Cowell and your son is called Erik?

minionmadess · 15/02/2015 09:51

Typical MN, a thread starts about a TV programme involving children and instead of discussing this, some posters see it as an opportunity to criticise children's names... again!

One poster even went so far as to make assumptions about parents of said children... very intelligent. Confused

UncleT · 15/02/2015 09:54

Only assumption I've made is that they probably won't care about my opinion - hardly a damning indictment when it's very likely they won't agree that their name choice is crap.

WhereIsMyFurryHat · 15/02/2015 10:00

I think the ignoring of bad behaviour was deliberate as the show was about how children naturally behave. I got the impression the teachers were told to have minimal input when they were playing. I also think the teacher wouldn't have necessarily seen the hit at the time and was probably made aware of it later.

I really enjoyed the programme, it's such an interesting age group to watch. They were all incredibly cute.

minionmadess · 15/02/2015 10:05

Oh please forgive me UncleT I hadn't realised your opinion on children's names was the one we should regard above all else.

Thank you for that clarification.

hijk · 15/02/2015 10:06

I haven't seen the programme or read the whole thread, but would like to point out that Cuba is an old spanish name, and its use as a personal name predates its use as the name of the country. It means abundance.

UncleT · 15/02/2015 10:07

I don't believe I said it was, at all.

UncleT · 15/02/2015 10:07

In fact, assuming people will disagree or dislike it kind of indicates the opposite.

almosthuman · 15/02/2015 10:08

UncleT I assume that your opinion of a made up name such as my daughters is no doubt what you would consider chavy and that you look down on others that chose non traditional names.
I do not appreciate your opinion that my child's name is crap however this is an open forum and you are entitled to express it.

BTW Skyla is NOT a made up name, my daughter is named after my ex husbands grandmother.

hijk · 15/02/2015 10:12

Cuba is also a very old name.

UncleT · 15/02/2015 10:15

Well I haven't said that - the thoughts are more complex than that but you carry on not appreciating what you like.

minionmadess · 15/02/2015 10:19

But you said "they won't agree that their name choice is crap"...

Does this statement not suggest that you think you are though?
