to send an email to a few thousand people because someone has blocked my car in

I'm hotdesking not in my usual office. Its quite large here so not realistic to go around asking everyone whos that car is. No one I've asked knows who's car it is. Only way I can think is to email everyone in the organisation to reach the owner to move it. Its been parked there since 9, I couldn't use the car to go and do some shopping at lunch and pissed off about that but to stop me leaving on time on Friday would get me raging.

Does it violate your office email policy?

It would mine.

Do you have a reception who could call out the registration number?

I'd be fuming, too.

UnacceptableWidge · 13/02/2015 15:55

Not BU but the car owner bloody is!
Email, name & shame the thoughtless sods
Angry I hate when other drivers are so rude

MyCarHasBrokenDownAgain · 13/02/2015 15:55

I work in a uni and we often get 'move this car' and 'who hit my car' emails go out to everyone. As long as you won't get into trouble, do it!

magrate · 13/02/2015 15:55

Good idea, I'll look that up. Really I've only got a few mins left before I need to go, I've crafted the mail. Just waiting to hit send.

No reception here or any kind of intercom

I think being blocked in trumps any email usage policy. You could email HR but if they are anything like mine they'll reply next Thursday week.

muminhants · 13/02/2015 15:58

One other option - is there a facilities manager? Maybe they could send the email for you?

5dogsgoswimming · 13/02/2015 15:59

Do it

DulcetMoans · 13/02/2015 16:01

Or is anyone in charge of car parking that can look up the car reg? We have a parking lady that does the badges that knows all the regs when this happens.

WipsGlitter · 13/02/2015 16:02

As long as it's not "will the fuckwit in the Nissan micro, reg cun t1 please move it". Them I think it would be ok.

wowfudge · 13/02/2015 16:02

Facilities or security should have a list of car registrations and owners/drivers for dealing with just this sort of thing. Otherwise what are you meant to do - sit in your car with your hand on the horn until the ignorant pig moves their car?

We have insurance at work that covers staff for moving cars - for example if you had to block someone in you'd leave your keys with reception and someone could move your car to let the other driver out.

TranmereRover · 13/02/2015 16:03

what muminhants said - facilities may have a record of all authorised number plates / owners

ClumsyNinja · 13/02/2015 16:03

Can you accidentally/on purpose bump the car out of the way? Grin

Letmeeatcakecakecake · 13/02/2015 16:06

Did you send the email, OP?

FlabbyMummy · 13/02/2015 16:08

I work for a company with lots unmanned buildings and have found myself in this position, sadly my option would have been to email the entire company, 80000 people so I had to wait it out, I tried asking around but to no avail. In the end I waited an hour.

Good luck op.

bonkersLFDT20 · 13/02/2015 16:12

Surely such a large organisation must have some sort of car park management/security/facilities who will either know whose car it is or send the email for you in a more official capacity.

Who's in charge of the buildings and stuff?

ShadowSpiral · 13/02/2015 16:12

I'd get reception / office facilities to send the e-mail. It looks more offical, and ordinary workers in my office can't use the whole building mass e-mail lists.

But YANBU.

KatoPotato · 13/02/2015 16:15

Well?

DontTurnAround · 13/02/2015 16:17

I'd have sent the email at lunchtime when I couldn't get out. Inconsiderate arse!

ChameleonCircuit · 13/02/2015 16:20

FlabbyMummy - I hope you have them what for when they finally moved!

OP - who was it? The MD?

FlabbyMummy · 13/02/2015 16:22

ChameleonCircuit I think I cried, I was v stressed about nursery collection

SquinkiesRule · 13/02/2015 16:23

Waiting to find out if you sent the email. Grin and what happened.

BikeRunSki · 13/02/2015 16:23

Do Facilities not keep a list of reg plates/drivers/phone numbers?

LurkingHusband · 13/02/2015 16:54

If it's anything like our office, the car may not belong to anyone in the building, but someone in the next company Sad. So facilities won't have a record.

laughingmyarseoff · 13/02/2015 17:44

YANBU, people often name and shame via group email at work here though so it's not uncommon and usually the same offenders. I'd make it clear that you wanted to leave at lunchtime and couldn't and are soon to leave so would like the car moved.

Patilla · 13/02/2015 17:48

What did you end up doing OP?
