To object to paying £40 for a new bra?

Just cos I have Norks! (with a capital N Grin )
There is one style and brand of bra that I have ever found, that I can just buy "off the shelf" that I know will fit me -as long as I take the bloody instrument of torture wires out - but the damn thing is at least £40 :(
I have tried others over the years, but they just don't fit, even in supposedly bigger sizes Confused
I tend to have one really tatty one, one with no wires in that is on the road to being tatty, and one newish one for "best".
Last time I bought one I got lucky and found one in my size on eBay for £25, but today I had to fork out forty quid :( and to add insult to injury my new knickers were a ridiculous price as well Confused
£48 for six pairs of giant pants!
I give up, I am becoming a hippy and wandering the streets commando, with my Mighty Norks swinging free in the breeze round my knees from now on!

John Lewis sell excellent pants at £10 for a multipack of 5.

Why would you pay as much as you did for pants?

Is there a discount place near you? We have one at Freeport. I bought 2 32FF bras in there for the grand total of £25 today.

Thank you StatisticallyChallenged.

I have lurked on a few bra intervention threads but first one I've posted on. I am very excited to try the new sizes and see how much difference it makes! Will have a look at some of the websites/shops that have recommended throughout the thread.

DrFoxtrot · 15/02/2015 16:01

Hello, please can somebody do something with my measurements?

I measure 32 inches under bust and 36 inches bent forward, not much there!

I've been wearing 34B but the band seemed too tight so tried 36A. It feels ok but varies widely between bras/style.

Thanks

SorrelForbes · 15/02/2015 16:39

DrFoxtrot try 32D and maybe even a 32DD/E.

A 32D has the same cup volume as a 36 but the shape of the cup should. E better suited to your frame. The 32B felt too tight because the cup was too small.

SorrelForbes · 15/02/2015 16:43

Blacksquirrel tbh Next bras just aren't good enough quality to cut the mustard at larger sizes. In addition the often miss out the double letters so your 34GG might really only have the cup volume of a 34FF. How does the band feel if you try it on back to front?

OctoberMoon · 15/02/2015 16:55

I'm a 36F (I think?! Could actually be a G, need to get re-measured) and I struggle to find affordable bras that give decent support.

I haven't read the whole thread (11 pages! Seems i'm not the only one in this boat) does anyone have a link to an independent website or an Ebayer that sells larger bras for decent prices?

DrFoxtrot · 15/02/2015 17:03

SorrelForbes thank you, I'm going to give 32D a go, although I've just spent a small fortune on 36A bras! Being petite in the breast department, I'd always just tried on A or B and bought what seemed to fit.

OneDayWhenIGrowUp · 15/02/2015 17:05

October- lots have been mentioned in the thread Smile

Bravissimo
Leia
Figleaves
Brastop

Also Amazon and EBay, looking for brands such as Freya, Curvy Kate, Panache, Kalyanii.... I'm sure someone else can come up with some other brands!

SorrelForbes · 15/02/2015 17:10

DrFoxtrot remember to try them on back to front first to test the fit of the band. If a 32 feels ok back to front but then suddenly become a too tight once the right way round, you need to go up again in the cup. Remember also that a D on a 32 band is not the same as a D on a 36 band!

MrsFionaCharming · 15/02/2015 18:24

I'm very impressed with the delivery from Brastop. Ordered Thursday, arrived yesterday.

But I'm not sure any of them fit. I measured 29 under bust, and 34 or 35 over bust, because I wasn't sure how tight to hold the tape measure whilst bent in half!

So I ordered some 30DD and 30E, but they're incredibly tight in the band, and the straps don't seem long enough, though the cups seem to fit fine. The band is siting flat around me, and they're flat on my sternum. They're Lepel ones, does anyone know if the sizing on them is off, or should I go up to a 32?

StatisticallyChallenged · 15/02/2015 18:27

What size were you wearing before MrsFionaCharming? How do you mean the straps don't seem long enough? have you scooped everything forward/in to the cups?

MrsFionaCharming · 15/02/2015 18:33

I was in a 32C - Measured in M&S.

I fully extended the straps and scooped), but they dug into my shoulders. But if I pushed them off, the bra stayed up fine without them, so it didn't seem like it was because they were taking too much strain, if that makes sense?

DrFoxtrot · 15/02/2015 19:15

SorrelForbes thank you for your advice.

The scooping thing that people are mentioning - is that scooping the breasts into the cups without actually fastening the bra?? To check cup size is right?

I have also had the problem of straps fully extended but digging in, I'm now realising that overall the bras have probably been too small

TealCarpet · 15/02/2015 19:19

Can I join in please?? I measure 25 under the bust and 31/32 inches bent forward. I bought some 30DDs yesterday, a couple seem to fit, a couple I don't fill the cup. I am likely to go smaller soon as I'm gradually weening DD2.

M&S always told me I was a 32C Hmm??

StatisticallyChallenged · 15/02/2015 21:16

Are you quite tall MrsF? It might be worth you trying a different brand - I'm not familiar with Lepel as I'm sized out but some do have different strap lengths.

Scooping - I do it once the bra is fastened, leaning forward.

Teal,, in an ideal world you'd wear a 26. Unfortunately, the only company who makes a 26 has just stopped. Gr. Based on your measurements I'd try a 28 band, and cups ranging from a D to F (sorry that's quite broad, it's because you're having to adjust up a little further in the band so a wee bit more trial and error is required)

Ah, M&S, talkers of the finest shite.

woodhill · 15/02/2015 21:48

I've just bought a Fantasie bra on ebay, Belle Lingerie. I may have used them before.

TealCarpet · 15/02/2015 22:22

Thank you statistically that's interesting - no wonder all my 32Cs from M&S are so uncomfortable!

I will go and try on some 28D-Fs, thank you Smile

MrsFionaCharming · 15/02/2015 22:34

I'm 5"9, but with a very long body and little legs, which I guess could be the issue. I'll send this load back and try a different brand.

MrsFionaCharming · 15/02/2015 22:54

I've just got a tape measure out, and the Lepel straps are 10cm shorter than on the Curvy Kate on I ordered!

mudkicker · 16/02/2015 00:34

I've been reading about Bravissimo for years, so based on this thread finally went yesterday. My 36D from M&S is actually a 34FF - new bra bought. Have to say it feels a bit tight just yet, but the norks finally look like something I'm not embarrassed about, after having them since aged 14.

Just also wanted to add feedback about M&S bras, as M&S market themselves as The Place to get bras measured properly. I've been to three M&S stores for bras, and been measured, in three different cities, and in all three the fitters were patronising, rushed and actually a bit abrupt. I did feel a bit of NQOCD as I'm pierced with tattoos - perhaps I was just unlucky, but I certainly felt ushered through the fitting with no real care from the staff whether I got a bra that suited me. Unlike Bravissimo, whose fitter was excellent, and asked what I wanted, ie support, norkage extreme, comfort or all three. So thanks MN.

halfacup · 16/02/2015 08:36

I'm 32 underneath and 40 round. I had been wearing freya 32E but they are too tight now I've put on a bit of weight. Will I be more like a 32F?

treaclesoda · 16/02/2015 08:37

Probably more like 32FFSmile

halfacup · 16/02/2015 08:45

Thanks Smile

mjmooseface · 16/02/2015 17:43

Are the bra interventionists still around?! :)

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 16/02/2015 18:14

And the ridiculous thing is, the new one arrived, it is the same size as the ones I am wearing, the same one I have worn for years, same model, same brand, and it doesn't bloody fit me WHY doesn't it fit me? The band won't go anywhere near me, and even on the longest adjustment, the straps are dead short Confused
I just can't work out how the ones I already have can fit, and a new one the same size can be so much smaller. I have checked the label obsessively, and all I can think is that it has the wrong label in Confused or something.
So I guess I DO need a brintervention, when I can find a tape measure.
And now I have to fuck on sending the blasted thing back too - unless anyone wants to buy a brand new, with tags, underwired, black Fantasie Belle in 38 JJ for £35 including postage? If it's going in the post anyway, it may as well go to someone who wants it...
At least my new knickers fit me Grin and keep my chest warm when pulled right up under my arms
