To object to paying £40 for a new bra?

Just cos I have Norks! (with a capital N Grin )
There is one style and brand of bra that I have ever found, that I can just buy "off the shelf" that I know will fit me -as long as I take the bloody instrument of torture wires out - but the damn thing is at least £40 :(
I have tried others over the years, but they just don't fit, even in supposedly bigger sizes Confused
I tend to have one really tatty one, one with no wires in that is on the road to being tatty, and one newish one for "best".
Last time I bought one I got lucky and found one in my size on eBay for £25, but today I had to fork out forty quid :( and to add insult to injury my new knickers were a ridiculous price as well Confused
£48 for six pairs of giant pants!
I give up, I am becoming a hippy and wandering the streets commando, with my Mighty Norks swinging free in the breeze round my knees from now on!

I've just measured, I got 36 and 46. Any advice on size?

As far as I understand, your under measurement is your band size then it's a letter per inch difference in the measurements.
So... 46-36=10 cup sizes 36GG as a starting point.
30-36=6 cups so start at 30E.
If you're skinny you might have to go up a band size and down a cup, vice versa if you're a bit sqidgy round your torso.

cmb535 · 13/04/2015 21:46

Sorry I meant 36-30=6

marriednotdead · 13/04/2015 21:49

You called Grin

Ok. cmb535, if visually it fits and isn't riding up etc, then the style may be the issue. It sounds as if the sides of the cup are too high and/or near your armpit. Would suggest perhaps trying a Freya half cup in a 28D/DD as they are shorter- they come up bigger in the band hence the size change.

gruffalo start with 36GG.

10storey that's about a 30E.

cmb 30C is too small in the cup. I would try 28DD or E.

calilark · 13/04/2015 22:01

would you mind helping me? I need measuring after stopping bfeeding a while ago!

band is 43 inches then 58 inches around boobs eek

cmb535 · 13/04/2015 22:08

Thanks for the replies, think I'll take this one back to debs, going to have to order online as I don't think they had any 28's.

marriednotdead · 13/04/2015 22:25

Calilark, you'd be looking to start around 40/42K.
If you can't get to Bravissimo, have a look at the Amplebosom website as they have quite an extensive range.

DisappointedOne · 13/04/2015 22:27

I'm sure that's not how you measure for bras. Don't you have to add 4 or 5 to the underbust measurement?

DisappointedOne · 13/04/2015 22:28

cmb if a 30 was tight, why would you go smaller?

FanFuckingTastic · 13/04/2015 22:31

A good bra is worth forty or fifty pounds, I like to have a couple of good ones, then a bunch of cheaper t-shirt bras so that my good ones last longer as I am not wearing them all the time.

calilark · 13/04/2015 22:36

marriednotdead THANK YOU SO MUCH

VelvetB · 13/04/2015 22:36

This thread has got me intrigued to see if I'm wearing the right size! I measure 32/37 currently wearing 32 or 34b, should I be trying something else?

cmb535 · 13/04/2015 22:44

No more adding inches to band size anymore, the 30 is too tight because the cups are too small, I'm going to try 28DD! Trust me this is very weird when all my bra wearing life I've been told I'm a A cup! since I measure 27.5 under a 28 should be correct, debenhams didn't have any which is why I tried to compromise with the 30 but its not quite right. Its all to do with the scoop Smile

gruffaloshmuffalo · 13/04/2015 22:44

36GG? My gosh, dh will love that!

ClumsyNinja · 13/04/2015 23:08

Hi, can anyone help please?
I'm measuring 36.5/47 but they've deflated lots after breastfeeding so I tend to wear balcony style bras. Currently wearing a 40DD but all bras look naff on me. I have a huge left over pregnancy tummy with a hernia so permanently look 8 months pregnant. Sad

pinkstinks · 13/04/2015 23:10

I'm taking a trip to a bravissimo on Thursday !! Any recommendations of styles? I've lost 5.5 stone now was wearing a 38jj and now measuring 32 underbust so excited to be fitted as boobs def feel flatter at the top after weight loss...

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 14/04/2015 01:46

OOO pink try them all on! Every single one they have, and then decide Grin

cmb several people have said that Debenhams bras run small in the back, so you might want to try their 30 in a bigger cup size too.

velvet you should try about 32DD.

Clumsy about 36H would probably be a better fit. It's harder to estimate cup sizes in bigger sizes though, so you might have to go try several around that size.

And yes, don't just put a bra on like a shirt, and let it lay there. Bend forward, jiggle and pull all the breast tissue into the cups, especially from under your arms.

MaidOfStars · 14/04/2015 12:57

At last count, I had 26 bras, and 56 pairs of matching knickers.

After a recent thread on this subject, I have realised I am probably wearing the wrong size and am looking forward to replacing them all Smile

I don't think £40 is very much for a bra.
