To object to paying £40 for a new bra?

Just cos I have Norks! (with a capital N Grin )
There is one style and brand of bra that I have ever found, that I can just buy "off the shelf" that I know will fit me -as long as I take the bloody instrument of torture wires out - but the damn thing is at least £40 :(
I have tried others over the years, but they just don't fit, even in supposedly bigger sizes Confused
I tend to have one really tatty one, one with no wires in that is on the road to being tatty, and one newish one for "best".
Last time I bought one I got lucky and found one in my size on eBay for £25, but today I had to fork out forty quid :( and to add insult to injury my new knickers were a ridiculous price as well Confused
£48 for six pairs of giant pants!
I give up, I am becoming a hippy and wandering the streets commando, with my Mighty Norks swinging free in the breeze round my knees from now on!

Did you get remeasured? Since you've lost weight I mean.

Amethyst24 · 14/02/2015 11:37

Citrus I get the sternum-digging thing too, annoyingly with the bras that fit me best and give me the best shape. It does seem to get better as you wear them in a bit - I think the wires get bendier with time or something. I can't bear scratchy bras - lace is the devil's work.

Funkytown · 14/02/2015 11:44

can some one do my bra pretty please

im a 32 round the back
and 42 danggly boobies

treaclesoda · 14/02/2015 11:46

Funky start with 32GG and work from there Smile

treaclesoda · 14/02/2015 11:47

Should add, that's the size I wear and it's not difficult to find bras that size as long as you're happy to shop online. Also, Debenhams often stock them instore in that size.

Jackieharris · 14/02/2015 11:59

Zukie you wouldn't be a 40dd in bravissimo or rigby & pellar.

You'd probably be a 34/36 gg or similar.

After a proper fitting you'll never look back!

RitaOrange · 14/02/2015 12:01

Luxury Hmm

I don't have much choice as Ive never come across a 32FF in a supermarket!
I also don't think they are much kop- cheap and not in any way supportive.
I no longer have severe upper back pain.

I probably buy 2 new bras per year and hand wash carefully so they last.

MadameJulienBaptiste · 14/02/2015 12:13

ah yes the lovely cheap supermarket bras....esterday I found 34e in 2 styles in sainsbos.
although no changing room I sneaked them in the loos for a try on.
Cheap thin lace fabric that stretched so cups were not firm. Thin straps that dug in. Skimpy sides so a wide booed person like me had nothing to hold 'the scoop' in. Resulting in hideous under arm bulge.
Other one was a moulded cup t shirt bra. Again thin straps, thin sides, too stretchy so little support. Sides of cups way too high.
just horrible and made my clothes look horrible. buying these would be a total waste of cash (£6 each), far far better to spend £25 - £30 on one decent one that fits, supports and flatters.
I wouldn't buy cheap shoes if they don't fit...

MadameJulienBaptiste · 14/02/2015 12:16

Zukiecat what are your measurements? Are you about a size 20 dress size, if not then you're in the wrong size bra.

MrsCrankypants · 14/02/2015 12:43

Can someone check my measurements please? I'm 44" under boob and 53" with dangly boobs. Does that make me a 44G?

Trouble is in 32 weeks pregnant and my shape has changed a lot - smaller back size- and I need to buy nursing bras. What size should I start with - do I need to buy bigger? I'd like to buy one to get me started for the first few weeks then I can buy more when milk comes in etc.

HaveYouSeenHerLately · 14/02/2015 12:54

Quick question Smile

I'm a 32FF. A friend has offered me a couple of unworn 30G bras in the same brand and style that I usually wear.

Would they equate to a 32FF if I added a back extender?

ouryve · 14/02/2015 14:25

Depending on the brand, they might even work as they are. A back extender might work, otherwise.

Alpinecrunch · 14/02/2015 14:58

Mummybare I'm 32cm under and 51 around boobs. I always buy a 32ff but have put 2 stone on in weight and boobs feel humongous (even more than usual). With these measurements am I still a 32ff?

Alpinecrunch · 14/02/2015 15:00

41 not 51

OneDayWhenIGrowUp · 14/02/2015 15:19

Just re-interventioned myself - after smugly writing "have you been interventioned" to the OP yesterday!

I went from 34D to 32F last time I did this. However I have noted some fit problems lately- grazes from the underwires at the sides and overspill with scooping. Just remeasured and come up with 31 inches underboob, 42 over. Up to a 32GG??!! Cripes.

OneDayWhenIGrowUp · 14/02/2015 15:21

Alpine I make that a 32G, if you mean inches! If you do mean cm then you may need to shop in the dolls clothes section Grin

How are your 32FFs fitting though?

Dawn, if 40 pulls away a lot, you might need a smaller band than you measure. Try a 38F to see if that improves things.

missmakesstuff · 14/02/2015 16:09

Could I have some advice? 35 weeks pregnant, really not ready for the delightful monoboob that Maternity bras give me..I need that wire! I am still in my slightly roomier 32hh bras, some 34, Freya fit me well...but I'm on the last hooks and I should think I'm stretching them to all buggary.
I need to buy some that will take me through these last few weeks and breastfeeding, I have no idea how to measure what with the bump, or if I should really just put up with monoboob now and wear maternity bras.. I still have some bras from 5 years ago..they're ok, I could just wear those at first and wait to measure when the bumps gone, surely?
also, I went to underwired again as soon as I could once bf was established last time, just not sure if there are any bf bras that are underwired? Just scooped them out the top of a normal one last time Blush

NotCitrus · 14/02/2015 16:13

Monkey the Bravissimo fitter looked and suggested the 32, and they seemed OK.

Though now we've had a go with string and MrNC has come up with 35 underbust and 42 over - but my 36 bra on tightest setting can still get both his hands under the band easily - if it weren't a perfect shape it would be dire as only the straps are giving support.

The band in general seems OK on a 32, so I think I trust Bravissimo's fitter over MrNC...

MrsLindor · 14/02/2015 16:50

Thank you, this thread reminded me to measure.

I bought three lovely (very reduced) bras from Debenhams today, I've been wearing 34DD, measured today as 33/34 and 41, so I went up to a 34E, much better.

I'm losing weight so not looking to invest in clothes/underwear at the moment.

Alpinecrunch · 14/02/2015 18:14

One :) Cleary not concentrating. Yep, 32ff feeling a bit small but I refuse to go up another size. I'm losing weight!!

Blacksquirrel · 15/02/2015 09:33

Next now do larger cup sizes.

I picked up a 34gg (recommended on here) in the online clearance for £9 but have just tried it on feels like I'm trying to wrestle a straight jacket! Should i go up a back size? I measured 35.

seagulldown · 15/02/2015 12:53

Would someone have a go at my size please? I've recently lost a bit of weight and my bras are looking and feeling a bit unsupportive.

I'm 29 round my back and got 38 dangly boobs.

StatisticallyChallenged · 15/02/2015 15:20

Try 28g,28gg,30ff,30g
