Watching him on the Grammys and he is fab. Anyone who says he is boring etc is crazy. He's got a beautiful voice!

Did you see the Grammy performance for chandelier with Kristen Wiig dancing with maddie? Just amazing. So captivating.

Theresadogonyourballs · 12/02/2015 13:59

He is this years' Emperors New Clothes. People who are supposedly 'in the know', (music journalists, publicists etc), are paid big bucks to create a 'buzz' around certain artists. We are told continuously how AMAZING and TALENTED they are, and the majority, like good little sheeple, lap it up, believe every word and buy their crappy music. IMO, he's dull as ditchwater, whiny and nasal, and totally unoriginal to boot. Each to their own though!Wink

NoGinThanks · 12/02/2015 14:00

His face annoys me and his voice is whiny and lispy. Dislike!

KellyElly · 12/02/2015 14:26

Theresadogonyourballs I do love a condescending Wink Grin. Not guilty of following the muic industry buzz though. I love Disclosure, and first heard him in Latch and thought his voice was beautiful. That's still my favourite song he's sung.

he is not boring!!

Love Sam Smith and will not hear a word against him Smile

RiojaHaze · 12/02/2015 14:30

No Fairy I didn't, worth you tubing?

RiojaHaze · 12/02/2015 14:32

See I don't think he has been forced on us, I see him more as having quietly crept up in behind Ed Sheeran who does commandeer a lot more media space.
Sam and George Ezra also are great examples of new original british male solo artists.

worldgonecrazy · 12/02/2015 14:35

I like Sam Smith's voice a lot. I prefer his dance collaborations to the slow stuff, but I can still appreciate they're nice inoffensive songs.

I saw Sam Smith in rl a few weeks ago and he's one of those really big people that is trying to make themselves look smaller - he seemed quite awkward in his own body. I felt quite maternal towards him!

NickiFury · 12/02/2015 14:36

These days any music not provided by a five piece gang of shrieky young men with floppy hair gets my vote. SS is hugely talented even if he's not everyone's cup of tea. Personally I love him but then I also love Taylor Swift so what do I know?

SpringBreaker · 12/02/2015 14:39

I think his stuff is all very much the same, one song is ok, but the album is a bit boring. I think Ed Sheerhan is much better and more versatile.

magrate · 12/02/2015 14:40

So dull and repetitive, don't blame his ex for ditching him.

Isn't he from a very wealthy family (mum gave up high 6 figure job to help him) so no wonder money isn't in your mind if you've got oodles of it.

bigTillyMint · 12/02/2015 14:41

He is bland. But lots of teen music these days seems bland.

RiojaHaze · 12/02/2015 14:41

I love Taylor Swift too Nicki, but why should that mean that we know fuck all about music??
I hate music snobbery! I like what I like and can't be arsed with people who look down on others for having different tastes to their own. Grin

NickiFury · 12/02/2015 14:43

I agree entirely Rioja. Thing is I don't know much about music, just what I like. I guess that's enough though Smile.

Rainicorn · 12/02/2015 14:45

I am a huge fan of his songs. For some reason though I get irrational rage when I see his photo and would probably poke him very hard in the eye if I ever met him. There is something about his face I just don't like Blush

dustarr73 · 12/02/2015 15:25

He is Alfie Moons lovechild.I like the songs but his dictation can sometimes be awful.
When he was on the X Factor it was like he couldnt be bothered to open his gob.

Ubik1 · 12/02/2015 16:28

Listen to him then listen to George Michael

sprout44 · 12/02/2015 16:31

God, now that you say it, he is so like Boy George i would never have though it. I just love his voice and he seems like a lovely young man. but no not in the least bit hansome.

MsRinky · 12/02/2015 16:33

Oh. I thought this was about beer.

PersonalClown · 12/02/2015 16:38

I love Sam Smith. DP finds him whiney so I listen with earphones in.
I think his voice and range is exquisite.

I'm loving Lay Me Down atm. It gives me chills.

I'm liking this phase of male solo singers we've got going right now. Ed Sheeran, Hozier etc.

barleysugar · 12/02/2015 16:45

Do you reckon he's got a tongue tie? I can't stand how he sings "cray-thay"

curlyweasel · 12/02/2015 16:47

Fairy How odd! I asked DD (via DP) for Sam Smith and/or Sia CDs for Christmas (the latter on the back of seeing her on Graham Norton's show - very eerie performance). She's tops.

Sam Smith is a very talented singer. I've no idea what his financial situation is, but don't really see what that adds to the debate regarding his voice? My understanding of that song is that it's about signing for love, not a record contract (or summink).

curlyweasel · 12/02/2015 16:48

Eh? He doesn't sound anything LIKE boy george, you noodles.

muffpuff · 12/02/2015 16:58

He's a bit meh for me but I can tolerate his music.

I am slightly obsessed with George Ezra ATM though.

dustarr73 · 12/02/2015 17:15

Hozier is Irish. So cant be lumped in with the singers "you" have now.
