Very early 80s, I was walking down a street in Moseley, Birmingham and this rather nice looking lad, same age as me, ran the length of the street telling me he had a record deal and he was excited and would I go for a drink with him, etc and I was incredibly flattered as I fancied him. But had a boyfriend waiting at home. Plus I thought he was drunk. He was coming out a pub his band played at regularly. Very shortly after we saw him on 'Top of The Pops' and told my boyfriend "That's the lad that chased me down the street, asking me out!" It was Ali Campbell of UB40 and it turned out his dad - a well known folk singer my then boyfriend was a fan of - lived on the next street to us, so I wasn't imagining things. We signed on at the same dole office.
Heard him on the radio a couple of years back talking about buying his wife a £5000 pair of jeans. Ah feck. And here's me living on minimum wage in a fecking council house. He'd probably have dumped me the minute he got famous anyway. He was very intriguing to look at.
My ex was in a cockney soap opera also did some theatre in London. I can't name him as I have two kids 'fathered' by him. He had lost his looks by the time I knew him. But he was good for bitchy anecdote about other actors.
Mate of mine shagged Adam Ant in his heyday. She said he was the best shag she ever had. Somehow, I can believe that.
And one of my old university friends had a LTR with Jimmy Paige. Back in the 1980s so there was a bit of an age gap between her and him. I met him once - as I had no interest in his music and had never heard of him I managed to be very un-starstruck. He seemed like a really nice bloke. Played acoustic guitar for us.
