Just curious to know what people do with their face and hair on a day to day basis! Does it differ if you are SAHM or WAHM ( or not a mum at all) ? For those who do, how important is it to you, i.e. you cant leave the house without some make up on?

I don't put make up on and usually just have a messy bun or plait my hair. But would like to make more of an effort with my appearance. (SAHM by the way).

Not working.
Shower, bath or strip wash.
Teeth (with the best toothpaste I can afford at the time)
Dove, warm flannel on face.
Slather Nivea Soft on face and neck.
Crabtree and Evelyn Rose body lotion but only on pamper days.
Make an effort with a bit of mascara and whatnot so I don't look like a boiled sweet.
Cover thread veins with a bit of light foundation.
At night baby wipe the mascara off,
Teeth.
Zeds.
(Pamper days means bathing, veeting, shaving under arms and legs and copious amounts of body lotion. Ped-egging and pedicure and manicure. The really boring day is every two months getting the hair dye out Sad)

weeblueberry · 07/02/2015 17:51

Wash and blow dry hair. No product other than the shampoo and don't straighten hair now I have a toddler.

Moisturiser and occasionally foundation, mascara and lippie.

Then at night it comes off with a face wipe and I use might cream.

I spent more time on it pre-child but honestly it's not a time issue now and more of a 'it seems less important to me' sort of thing. Smile

Every morning I -

Hot cloth cleanse my face
Shower, exfoliating shower gel, wash and condition hair
Apply facial moisturiser and eye cream
Apply body lotion
Apply foot cream
Blow dry hair then run GHDs through the ends
Apply concealer, foundation, blusher, eyeliner and tinted lip balm
Spritz of perfume

Takes me 35 minutes from start to finish Smile

Twice a week I deep condition my hair and shave legs and under arms, and pluck eyebrows.

reallywittyname · 07/02/2015 18:13

This is my morning routine:
Drag self from bed.
Slump into shower.
Shave pits if they need it.
Shave legs if PGP allows.
Facial wash in shower.
Emerge from shower.
Dry self.
If sun is shining, check chin and brows for hairs and pluck errant ones away.
Clean teeth, apply deodorant and moisturiser.
Throw on clothes.
Drag brush through hair. Hair gets washed 3 times a week.
Go through to DD who by now is usually singing to herself in her cot.

When I get the time I attend to my lady garden and do one of those nose strips that take away the blackheads.

If I have lots of time and/or am feeling particularly rough I will put a bit of make-up on, but that is rare.

God, I am practically Joan Collins.

hobnobsaremyfriends · 07/02/2015 18:14

Hmm interesting replies. Am feeling Blush at my lack of effort regarding skin care, I don't know why I can't get into a proper cleanse, tone and moisturize every evening. (I usually just use face wash, sun cream and moisturise in the morning.)

I have ultrabland cleanser too, any recommendations for a toner for combination skin? And what's this serum stuff for that some posters mentioned?

Wash face with soap. Clean teeth. Dental floss. Moisturiser on face. Brush hair. At bed time have shower. That's it.

TwoDogsNoHorse · 07/02/2015 18:34

Every other day shower and wash hair (may just shower on the day in between)
Most days do not wash face, cleanse or moisturise (despite having lots of lovely products).
Mascara and lipstick (applied once in morning and rarely reapplied)
Once a week shave and use IPL if I can be bothered (this has made a big difference though)
Pluck eyebrows/stray hairs approx. once a fortnight
Roots every 3-4 weeks, haircut ever 6 weeks

My face suddenly feels really dirty...off to give myself a facial...

JackieTheFart · 07/02/2015 18:36

I work full time.

Wash hair once or twice a week. Sometimes I wear my natural curls but I'm enjoying using my new tongs at the moment. Always worn down.
I wash my face with soap and exfoliate every day with coconut oil and sugar scrub.
Just bought some expensive Estée lauder serums which I use daily.
I wear full make up to work, and if I go out. On the odd occasion I will nip out with nothing on but this is very rare!

JackieTheFart · 07/02/2015 18:38

Oh and I always have my nails done. I do them myself because I enjoy doing it!
Not a big fan of hair removal.

Stinkylinky · 07/02/2015 18:45

Normally put my hair up for work each day but wear it down if I'm at home - my hair is long and thick so takes a lot of styling and I would rather have an extra 45 mins in bed each day!

Wash face with Liz Earles hot cloth cleanser followed by a simple toner and moisturiser.

Make up: YSL touché éclat, high beam highlighter on cheekbones, bronzer, blush, subtle eyeshadow, mascara and pencil my brows in - getting them cosmetically tattooed after I've had my baby, finished off with a lip balm.

Takes me about half an hour to get ready each morning max

Birdsgottafly · 07/02/2015 18:48

And what's this serum stuff for that some posters mentioned?""

Serums address whatever your issue is. Mine would be anti ageing (I'm late 40's).

I use Elemis products and used to add in a Serum to give my skin an extra shot of Moisture and Radiance.

I now have skin peels and micro dermabrasion.

Hair washed, conditioned, blown, straightened, every three days.

Bath every morning, at least, body butter applied all over, with knee/foot cream.

I have a full cleansing, moisturising routine, wear foundation, blusher, eyeshadow daily. I have my eyebrows tattoo'd on.

I wear a clear nail strengther, unless I'm going out, then I do my nails.

Hair removal, pedicures (I use Footner), hair colouring, facials, self tanning, all done as and when needed.

sooperdooper · 07/02/2015 18:56

Shower and wash hair, shampoo and conditioner every morning

Moisturize face and neck

My day to day make up is foundation, concealer, mascara, cream eyeshadow, blusher, powder, tinted lip balm (used to also draw in my v pale eyebrows but I had them tinted & waxed a couple of weeks ago, v impressed and will have it done again!)

Hair products, argan oil & heat protection spray - blow dry hair, straighten a bit if it's misbehaving

Nails I do as and when, maybe once a week & shave my legs maybe once a week too

I take my make up off at night with an oil cleanser and then moisturize before bed

BMW6 · 07/02/2015 19:10

Personally, I get up, drink several coffees and smoke many fags. I then shower and dry hair, clean teeth and am ready for my close up Mr De Mille!

I NEVER put soap on my face = just wash it with water in the shower. Them that puts soap on their face are not looking after their skin

Hamiltoes, my hair is fine and soft, and gets really limp if I don't wash it every day.

Salmotrutta · 07/02/2015 19:33

I always feel I know nothing when it comes to facial stuff.

I wash my face, slap on some moisturiser when I remember, (use emulsion ointments on body as eczema-prone) but only use a bit of mascara and sometimes a touch of blusher.

If I'm going out I might use eyeshadow and lippy.

What on earth are all these concealers and serums and stuff? Confused

I'm far too old to be bothered with all that Grin

I do like my hair to look nice though - fortunately I'm still not grey and its thick and in good nick!

ithoughtofitfirst · 07/02/2015 19:35

I love this thread!

Salmotrutta · 07/02/2015 19:37

I'm actually scared to ask what a sonic cleanse brush is! Confused

OneDayMySleepWillCome · 07/02/2015 19:44

SAHM to 3yo & 7mo.

wash face (if time allows use cleansing mousse, if not just water. Moisturise, primer everyday. If going out, follow with bb cream, face contouring, blusher, eyeliner & mascara. Hair is a total nightmare as I always want it to look better than it does. Always tied up in someway due to it getting in the way, messy bun which never looks as good as other people's or just tied up. Looks a total mess. Needs a good cut and re style. Just no time!!! Also must start to use night cream and eye cream. I've bought them I just always forget/can't be bothered!

whathaveiforgottentoday · 07/02/2015 20:46

shower daily, wash hair every 3 days (any more and it becomes too dry)
Wash face in the shower, Shave legs etc occasionally (in the winter its when having hairy legs annoys me when wearing tights)

Moisturise

mascara and occasionally use tinted moisturer/lipstick if looking pale (tends to be this time of year).

Work FT but did the same when on maternity leave.

OhMittens · 07/02/2015 20:46

Working mum here, but routine was exactly the same when was a SAHM too.

Every morning: Shower, face wash (foaming cleanser) and exfoliate, hair wash & condition
Full body moisturise (I slap it on generously, takes less than 20 seconds)
Apply rosehip face oil and a moisturiser with a high SPF included
Blow dry hair
Full face of makeup - (nothing OTT but still the full works, applied quickly (had a lorra practice!) Foundation, powder, concealer, eyeliner, eyebrow pencil, mascara, lip liner, lipstick and smidge of blush.

Every night:
Quick shower, face wash thoroughly with foaming cleanser
Full body moisturise
Face oil, night-time moisturiser and eye cream

Once a week
Feet - ped-egg, heel cream, and paint toenails
Top to toe fake tan
Tweeze eyebrows
Paint nails
Face pack

Not a day goes by without makeup (unless a total pyjama day/illness of course), my skin feels naked without it?!

OhMittens · 07/02/2015 20:48

PS I have three DCs under 7 and somehow juggle this around them including when DH is working away and I'm on my own. I do bits in between breakfast and before I get them dressed. I still would rather get up early to fit it in than lie in and not do it.
