Just curious to know what people do with their face and hair on a day to day basis! Does it differ if you are SAHM or WAHM ( or not a mum at all) ? For those who do, how important is it to you, i.e. you cant leave the house without some make up on?

I don't put make up on and usually just have a messy bun or plait my hair. But would like to make more of an effort with my appearance. (SAHM by the way).

I use baby wipes for all face cleansing, inc make up removal. Much cheaper than 'proper' facial wipes. Also use them for cleaning shoes, lunchboxes, sinks, telephones, computer screens...you name it...DS is now 9 and I can't see me ever not having wipes in the house.

formerbabe · 07/02/2015 13:49

I'm a sahm...I wash my hair once/twice a week and straighten it then. Will run straighteners over it in between washes. Shower everyday and fake tan/paint nails once a week. I wear make up everyday...I don't moisturise enough but am pretty lucky to have good skin. I have lots of skin care products which I use when I remember!

When you're a bit more flush I recommend Beauty Centre Europe online for Dr. Hauschka. I used to get mine loads cheaper from here - the Quince Day Cream for example is £12 for 30ml compared to a low price of £18-£22 from the UK, or the clarifying toner is£ 15 for 100ml compared to £20-£24 from shops based here.

Wash my hair every other day with either bed head or soap and glory shampoo&conditioner (makes my hair soooo soft), then apply Aussie conditioning spray when it's towel dried. Let it dry naturally over night and straighten in the morning. Bath every day, shower when the weathers warm.

I wear make up whenever I go out. I can't imagine leaving the house without it tbh. I only wear red lipstick, mascara, a bit of foundation and eyebrow pencil. Blusher and eyeliner are for nights out Wink.

Cleanse, tone and moisturise my face daily. Apply body butter, hand and foot cream daily. Face mask once a week. Exfoliate 3-4 times a week. Shave every day. Pluck eyebrows once a week. Paint nails once a week. I think that's it Wink.

Mousefinkle · 07/02/2015 14:30

Oh and I'm a SAHM.

Goodwordguide · 07/02/2015 14:41

WOHM 4 days, 3 days in smart office, one day from home.

Skin: serum and moisturiser - oil at night (nuxe or anything else I have, not always expensive), clarins for day. Skin brush/exfoliate/glam glow when I can be bothered, maybe once a week max. Lots of almond oil as body moisturiser plus fake tan (loreal gel) in the summer and sunscreen.

Make up: if I'm working it's primer, foundation, concealer then eyeliner, mascara, either neural lip or bright red depending on how much eye make up I'm wearing. Aerin powder then Laura Mercier blusher. Will also do my nails the night before - short and dark usually, plus have a shellac manicure every now and then. If I'm not working, I will just use a CC cream and mascara, sometimes more, sometimes less, depending on what I'm doing.

Hair, shampoo and conditioner left to soak for a few hours about 2-3 times a week, plus use Aegean or nuxe oil to keep in conditioned in between. Use babyliss big hair to style it but only really bother if I'm working.

Wineloffa · 07/02/2015 14:41

I wash, condition and blow dry my hair every other morning.

Face is cleansed, moisturised, then I apply sunscreen and foundation, eyeliner, mascara and lipstick.

Nails painted every other night.

I work parttime x

Hamiltoes · 07/02/2015 14:54

Wash hair every sunday, will sometimes do it on a thursday night if i'm going out at the weekend but I find the less I wash, the less it actually needs washed.

Sleep with rollers in every couple of nights and wear it down or in a really high pony.

Skin I use Clean&Clear deep cleansing lotion morning and night. Nivea moisturiser morning and night. Used to wear foundation every day but since doing this I find I have no need.

If i'm going out i'll use some BareMinerals powder, and some MAC bronzer and blush and highlighter. All powder. Always pencil full lip in a light brown colour. And always always have Younique mascara + normal mascara on. Eyebrows always threated and I do the tinting at home every couple of weeks.

I find that even if nothing else is done, using mascara and keeping eyebrows tidy is the best thing you can do to make yourself look/ especially feel better.

Hamiltoes · 07/02/2015 14:56

Sorry forgot, on Mat leave at the moment but work full time! I have a whole chest of makeup but only gets used for nights out or shopping trips at weekends. Every day is as above.

fatlazymummy · 07/02/2015 14:57

I don't work outside the home. I'm a carer.
Wash my hair 2 /3 times a week, usually after swimming. My hair is naturally slightly curly so I don't blow dry it. If I don't wash it I spray some leave in conditioner in, comb it with a wide toothed comb, then fluff it up and spray in some keratin oil.
Face, I just use a facial wipe. No make up. Occassionally a bit of moisturiser if I feel I need it.
That's it. I'm very low maintanence. I'm happy with the way I look, skin and hair are in reasonable condition.

Hamiltoes · 07/02/2015 15:00

Am ShockShock at people who wash hair every day!

What happens to your hair in the course of 24hr that its needs washed every day? I dont know where you all get the energy its such a chore for me!

fatlazymummy · 07/02/2015 15:04

I forgot to add, I dye my hair about twice a year to cover the grey (I haven't got that much for my age) Grin and cut (by hairdresser) occassionally (it will be 9 months this time).

Smarterthantheaveragebeaver · 07/02/2015 15:09

I have to wash mine every day as it is very fine, and is greasy and lank again by the following morning. It also looks like a burst mattress when I get out if bed and just brushing = bad hair day. Im off work at the moment and havent washed it for 3 days. It stinks and there's no way Id leave the house. Am very Envy at PPs who only have to do it once a week.

MissPronounced · 07/02/2015 15:16

Each morning I have a quick shower (preferably without getting face wet!), apply de-puffing eye serum if looking particularly ropey, pluck any stray eyebrow hairs, apply makeup: primer, under eye concealer, mineral foundation, brow pencil, mascara, blush and sometimes eyeliner.

In the evenings I body brush, have another shower or bath, wash and blow-dry/straighten hair (every other day, or every third day if it's not looking too terrible), apply eye cream and moisturise my face.

I file my nails every couple of days, epilate (legs, arms, underarms, bikini line) twice a week, use blackhead/pore treatment on my nose once or twice a week, deep condition my hair once a week and do some sort of foot scrub most weekends.

Oh, and I dye my hair with a cheap box of Nice 'n' Easy once a month Grin

I'm single at the moment, and don't have children, so I probably have more time than most to pamper myself :)

JoanJettPack · 07/02/2015 15:22

I work 4 days a week and on a work day I don't moisturise in a morning as I have horrifyingly oily skin. I just cleanse with no 7 foaming cleanser and put on bb cream, mascara, loose powder and lipgloss. Hair gets straightened and styled or put in a side plait if I'm running late.

On days off, it's the same except I use Origins GinZing moisturiser in a morning.

Evenings, I remove makeup with L'Oréal micellar water followed by a serum and night cream (currently no 7)

I wash my hair every other night because it's long and gets greasy looking due to the amount of products I use on it (argan oil, heat spray, shine spray and hairspray).

GertyD · 07/02/2015 15:27

I work full time.

Hair wash and shower every other day - shampoo and condition. Also shower after every run.

Cleanse with Anne French
Moisture with Nivea
Face pack once a week

Shave pits and legs when exposed.

Eyebrows plucked once a week.

Make up is all Mac. It is my only splurge.

Purplepoodle · 07/02/2015 15:42

I work pt behind scenes role so dress very casual

Brush teeth
Liz earl hot cloth cleanser
Tone and moisturise
Bb cream, mascara if can be bothered

same night time

Shower every other day, wash hair 2/3 times a week (fringe sometime more)

If not going anywhere or school runs don't bother with Bb cream.

I used to wear full make up but I'm more comfortable with myself and don't feel I need it.

scottgirl · 07/02/2015 17:11

Hamiltoes my hair is very fine, long and blond. It really does need to be washed every day or it looks terrible, greasy and impossible to put a comb through. I have left it unwashed for a day to demonstrate this to someone at work and they were really shocked.

williaminajetfighter · 07/02/2015 17:22

Evenings I cleanse with Eve Lom or Emma Hardie cleanser although prefer the former. Weekly I use a scrub or acidy product like Ferulic. Brush teeth of course. Use body shop vit e oil at night when skin is dry
But prefer not to slop stuff on my skin at night. I think that's when it needs time to breathe!

Mornings. No cleanser just rinse with hot water. Facial oil to moisturise then foundation concealer mascara eyeshadow etc. mix of brands. No makeup on weekends though.

Eye threading and tinting fortnightly. Bath every other day. Shave etc regularly.

Not a fan of toner and definitely think it's crazy to put on lots of moisturiser in the night then strip it off with a heavy morning cleanse.

The one thing I don't do is slather my body with body butter, oil etc. I just don't want to get into the habit of moisturising, showering it off 8 hours later then moisturising again. It's a weird cycle and I think your skin adapts by getting drier but that's just my wired beauty beliefs!!

WeldedParentMaterials · 07/02/2015 17:41

Work Ft.

Hair: messy bun. It needs washed daily.

Makeup: Wouldn't leave house without eyeliner. But usually also have nude eyeshadow, mascara or tinted lashes, tinted moisturiser, subtle blush and Elizabeth Arden 8hr lip balm.

Comito · 07/02/2015 17:45

Morning
Wash face in shower just with water, exfoliate about once a week.
Wash hair every other day, dry shampoo otherwise.
Moisturise, cup of tea for 15 mins to allow moisturiser to soak in.
Foundation applied with a sponge, concealer, base for eye makeup, cream blusher, loose powder.
Eyebrows, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara.

If hair washed, dry, then straighten. If not washed, dry shampoo, comb then straighten. Smoothing cream then hairspray.
Total time about 45 minutes.

Evening
Cleanse, tone (Simple) and night cream. (Boots Intense)

Monthly facials, eyelash/eyebrow tint, threading as needed. Epilate legs every week, shave pits every few days.

I'd also shower after gymming or running, but try not to use too much shower gel.
