24 characters, 5 of them female.
Hate the stupid game at the best of times.

If there was a 50/50 split then the 1st question would always be are you a boy/girl and the game would be over more quickly. I'll bet their is only 5 or 6 of any distinguishing features

Honeybadger83 · 08/02/2015 23:13

Armydad; so being female is a 'distinguishing feature', but being male isn't?
The idea that man are the default and women the aberration is problematic at best.

ThereIsACarInTheKitchen · 08/02/2015 23:16

I haven't thought about this game in years, but the fact there weren't many women but lots of men annoyed me.

MightyMightyToros · 08/02/2015 23:18

Well obviously ...

It's Guess Who, the first question is generally always are you a male/female?

If it is a female. Then thats 19 people out of 24 eliminated already.

BackforGood · 08/02/2015 23:26

Honeybadger - are you on glue ?

It's a standard first question in Guess Who - it matters not a jot if you ask if it's a woman, or if it's a man - it just cuts out a lot of the characters Confused

Wearing a hat ? always cut a few out, from what I remember.

On another note, the general quality of the game is very poor now. I'm sure it was more sturdy when I was younger.

Maybe the gender divide was because you can have slightly more distinguishing facial features on men such as moustaches and beards

nancy75 · 08/02/2015 23:31

Quite obvious why when you think about it, how many bald women with a beard do you meet in your day to day life? Not many? It is a game where you can only see a face and hair, most women don't usually make a feature of their facial hair or go bald. Using more men gives more options

imgoodatpointless · 08/02/2015 23:32

oh and women dont wear earings or necklaces?

imgoodatpointless · 08/02/2015 23:33

long hair, short hair, curly or straight?

nancy75 · 08/02/2015 23:37

I don't think you can see necklaces. As a game for small children a giant beard or tash is more obvious than a pair of earrings

nancy75 · 08/02/2015 23:43

They do use earrings for both men and women but the pics don't have anything but a head so there are no necklaces

steppeinginto2015 · 08/02/2015 23:46

ours is a tesco version, has about 50/50

very annoying though because it is really small and I can't see eye colour on it

OutragedFromLeeds · 08/02/2015 23:58

I'm pretty sure there are enough combinations of hat/glasses/earrings/blond hair/brown hair/black hair/ginger hair/pink hair/green hair/long hair/short hair/curly hair/straight hair/eye colour/lip type/nose type etc. to be able to differentiate 30 women without any of them needing to be bald or have a beard!

cuckoonest · 09/02/2015 00:05

We have the 'extra' version here. It's about 50/50. Then there are five other character sets you can swap in, with animals, monsters, household appliances. I can't comment on the gender of the white goods.
