I am slightly annoyed about a van parked outside my house. We have unrestricted parking (London terraced street).

So I know the law, and I know I have no rights to the space outside my house. I honestly do and you don't need to remind me Grin. Our road can get busy but I can usually park within a 1 or 2 minute walk of my front door. So no real biggie.

But in my place would you be irritated that a largish van (think transit size) has been parked directly outside my house for 14 days now and not been moved once?

Please be honest. If it wouldn't bother you, would it really not, really and truly?

And wwyd? I am fairly sure I know who it belongs to. If I'm right, owner lives 15-20 houses away. They have a driveway which one of their cars occupies. They also have quite a large commercial vehicle, also parked on the road and also hasn't moved for a couple of weeks.

It would annoy me to see a van out of my window, really annoy me, although I wouldn't say anything as I would have no right

You state that it's an unrestricted street and therefore you have no right to park outside your house etc etc but then you ask wwyd??

There isn't anything you can do whether he lives next door or twenty houses away. Annoying - possibly however, I'm not quite sure what answers you're expecting.

Providing the van and the commercial vehicle don't exceed any overnight weight ban (which could have been assigned to the street) there aren't really any options open to you I'm afraid.

I am in a London Victorian terrace too, and I HATE it when the guy down the road parks his van in front of the house! It fills the window! I feel trapped! Obviously there's absolutely nothing you or I can do about it though. Apart from key it, maybe (JOKE).

Nope I'd be annoyed too. We have an unofficial garage in one of the semis round the corner and he always has loads of cars parked on the street. They are slowly but surely creeping right into our little off-shoot road meaning no one can have visitors parking here. I am definitely not considering keying any of the cars because that would be a bad and wrong thing to do.

Of course it would. One of my neighbour's puts out her own personal set of bollards every time their car is moved. Amazingly; no one has ever shoved them aside and parked there anyway though I've been tempted

Oh I didn't read your thread properly. If you know whose it is, and it's been there 2 weeks, I would wait until there's a space somewhere else on the street and very politely and pleadingly (perhaps making up some kind of fake condition that makes having a big van outside unbearable for you) ask them if they would move it. You never know.

Yanbu. I have a garage behind the house so never ever need the space in front. But it infuriates me when neighbour 3 parks his ugly van blocking all light and making my view just white ugliness till he moves itHmm I don't even notice cars when parked there

We have a similar situation here, large blue van belonging to a well known energy supplier, tbh I am envious of the working hours of the owner (a neighbour)… the van is moved for maybe 6 hours absolute maximum daily. It is here through every single school holiday and weekend.
I try not to let it bother me but it does, for lots of reasons. (Restricts access and parking an an already cramped street)

Sadly now tax discs have been discontinued it's not so easy to check. Can you check it online somehow, anyone know?

Friend had this with large-ish camper van outside her house for weeks. Especially annoying as it was 6 inches or so over her dropped kerb so driveway access was possible but trickier.

Anyway, as she knew whose it was, when she saw them one day she asked if they could move it to large space outside their own house. The answer? "We don't like to park it outside ours as we don't like having it outside our front window, blocks the light."

She was politer than I would"be been in response.

Easy to check tax on the gov.uk website.Just need make and reg number.

I'd be tempted to pretend I had no idea whose it was and phone whoever it is who deals with abandoned vehicles and say you think it must have been abandoned as it hasn't moved for a fortnight. I doubt that they'd tow it, but with any luck they'd contact the owners and cause a bit of aggravation.

This van hasn't moved for a fortnight. The other day my friend saw someone drive up, open the van, dump a load of stuff in it and then drive off.

My honest answer is that yes it would irritate the hell out of me too. BUT in answer to your question (wwyd?)...then I think if you live in a terraced street in London where anyone can park then you just have to suck it up.

We have guests coming tomorrow, I have baggsied parked my car outside my house already so the guests can use my drive because last weekend some fucker from in the corner with the smallest house and most cars parked one of them outside my house all weekend.
