to think this cupcake sale assistant was rude?

So I went to buy some cupcakes today as I have friends coming over tomorrow for afternoon tea.

I'm currently trying to lose weight (by calorie counting) so I asked the assistant if there was a lot of calories in a Mars Bar cupcake.

She replied (in a very sarcastic way) - We actually bake out the calories and replaced them with love and sprinkles. Grin

Really there just was no need.

Is this not a reverse? Surely?

Sunny67 · 06/02/2015 17:35

Bless you Op!! I bet you made the assistants day.

HowCanIMissYouIfYouWontGoAway · 06/02/2015 18:12

I do, Rachel.

Well, ask a silly question, OP Grin

26Point2Miles · 06/02/2015 18:49

What's a 'cupcake'??

What makes cake/bun/fairy cake/muffin into a twee sounding 'cupcake'? Where has this come from all of a sudden?

Oceanpurple · 06/02/2015 18:51

Ooh, cupcakes.

Theoretician · 06/02/2015 18:57

There are between 15 and 20 calories in a lovingly baked mars bar cupcake.

Maybe I'm missing a joke, but surely there's at least one zero missing from those figures. I've known a very small plain biscuit to contain 50 calories.

Gruntfuttock · 06/02/2015 19:03

Theoretician Of course you're missing a joke!

Mostlyjustaluker · 06/02/2015 19:06

26point a cupcake is a fairy cake with way too much icing on the top.

ImTakingTheEssence · 06/02/2015 19:06

Brilliant Grin

Bunbaker · 06/02/2015 19:07

That has to be one of the stupidest questions I have ever seen.

As an aside, IMO shop bought cupcakes are horrible. The cakes are too dry and there is way too much sickly buttercream on them.

HappyAgainOneDay · 06/02/2015 19:09

26Point2miles

They are fairy cakes really but are now called by an American name. Cupcakes used to be ready made and available in packs of six in supermarkets but they were in cake cases half full of cake mix and the remaining space was full of icing and it was smoothed flat on the top. The cupcakes currently available are simply fairy cakes with piles of buttercream icing on the top.

ChippyMinton · 06/02/2015 19:12

Have a Biscuit

I expect it has fewer calories than a cupcake.

SomewhereIBelong · 06/02/2015 19:27

Our cafe puts approximate calorie counts (and Weight watchers pro-points) on the menu - a mars bar cupcake there is approx 740 calories and 15WW PP

Half (HALF!!!!!) my food intake for the day, in one delicious gooey cake...

UptheChimney · 06/02/2015 20:10

The cakes are too dry I generally find them too greasy. Proper fairy cakes are much lighter.

I think these American style cupcake are simply an excuse for buckets of butter-cream icing. I'd rather have a Mars bar ...

HerRoyalNotness · 06/02/2015 20:20

A cupcake is just a smaller cake, as told to me by a cupcake officianado/owner of best cupcake shop in a Canadian city I once lived in.

A fairy cake, I remember from childhood, is a fluffier, spongier, lighter version.

This bonkers place sells either a one-bite mini cupcake, or cupcakes big enough to feed a MN family of 4 for 3 days.

no middle ground in Texas

Pipbin · 06/02/2015 20:53

In my cupboard I have fairy cake and cup cake cases. Cup cakes are bigger.

Still, due to the disappearance of the OP I can only assume this is a joke. I hope so anyway. Either that or the OP has had a full sense of humour bypass.

arethereanyleftatall · 06/02/2015 21:04

Reverse.

SistersOfPercy · 06/02/2015 22:15

Personally I'm bloody disappointed that not a one of you has posted a recipe for mars bar cupcakes!
(With or without love and sprinkles, I'm easy)

Kthmai · 06/02/2015 22:17

Brilliant reply, I do not think she was being at all rude just very witty

SoupDragon · 06/02/2015 22:20

Take one over priced, over iced fairy cake.
Shove an unwrapped mars bar in the top like a 99 ice cream.
Job done.

FrancesNiadova · 06/02/2015 22:22
Cake SOMEWHEREIBELONG, I think that I could eat 2 of those in a day, no problems! Grin
FrancesNiadova · 06/02/2015 22:24

Soupdragon, a recipe! Post it on the baking forum quickly!

SistersOfPercy · 06/02/2015 22:25

Is that it soup? The cupcake in my head was amazing. I was expecting chocolate cake with a melted caramel mars bar type center. Well I'm disappointed now.

nocoolnamesleft · 06/02/2015 22:27

Hmmm. You could probably melt marsbar into cream to generate a ganache-like topping that at least wouldn't be that foul buttercream stuff...

Why bother with the fair cake? Buy Mars bar. Unwrap. Eat.

I like to eat the caramel bit off the top first, then enjoy the whipped nougaty bit.
