to think this cupcake sale assistant was rude?

MightyMightyToros · 06/02/2015 14:20

So I went to buy some cupcakes today as I have friends coming over tomorrow for afternoon tea.

I'm currently trying to lose weight (by calorie counting) so I asked the assistant if there was a lot of calories in a Mars Bar cupcake.

She replied (in a very sarcastic way) - We actually bake out the calories and replaced them with love and sprinkles. Grin

Really there just was no need.

OP posts:
DeliciousMonster · 06/02/2015 14:48

That is a ridiculous question.

RainbowFlutterby · 06/02/2015 14:52

Where was the shop? I need cupcakes that have calories baked out.
The love and sprinkles replacement is just an added bonus. Grin

geekymommy · 06/02/2015 14:53

YABU. Sorry, but you'll be lucky if this story doesn't end up on some "clueless things customers say" message board.

HandMini · 06/02/2015 14:54

Yup, YABU. I think her answer was funny and meant to be light heartedly saying "knock yourself out with a cake and forget about the calories".

PUGaLUGS · 06/02/2015 14:55

Of course there are going to be bloody loads of calories in a Mars bar cupcake. I think she was pretty restrained actually given what a stupid question it was.

Am liking the assistant! And no, she wasn't rude.

Nomama · 06/02/2015 15:54

OMG! Now I hate cupcakes, all that mush hiding a nice cake.

But that was one high quality answer. Where is the shop? I feel I could attempt to eat one of those cupcakes - but only if she served me!

Now... what stonkingly stupid question should I ask to try and get a similarly beautiful answer...?

BitOutOfPractice · 06/02/2015 15:56

I am going to completely miss the point of this thread and eat a cupcake, safe in the knowledge that it is calorie-free. I might do it rudely.

SoupDragon · 06/02/2015 15:57

Like others, I am astounded that

  1. you needed to ask if there were a lot of calories in a Mars Bar cupcake.
  2. you were planning to eat one when you are trying to lose weight.
Doggygirl · 06/02/2015 15:58

I would have been a bit pissed off - she was a bit silly.

Summerisle1 · 06/02/2015 15:58

so I asked the assistant if there was a lot of calories in a Mars Bar cupcake

Because it's not as if you'd expect a Mars Bar cupcake to be full of calories is it?

Honestly, OP, accept the fact that this really was a splendidly silly question which was answered very adeptly by the person you directed it to!

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 06/02/2015 16:00

To be honest I think she probably thought you were joking, as nobody would actually ask that question seriously would they?! I think she replied to a joke question with a joke answer.

Marynary · 06/02/2015 16:03

She probably thought that you were joking when you asked if the Mars Bar cupcake had a lot of calories in it so joked back.

YABU that was a fabulous response!

Everythingwillbeok · 06/02/2015 16:07

OP I like your user name btw. Is it a reference to "bring it on? "

MaryWestmacott · 06/02/2015 16:14

I would also assume she thought you were joking, so joined in. She probably has to grin through people going "ooh, I shouldn't have, so naughty!" or "ooh, about a million points/syns! still, just a little treat now and then..." or other such irritating crap from people who are talking about being on a diet and how naughty foods are.

Everyone knows cupcakes are high calorie, if you'd asked how many, then you might have sounded like you wanted actual information, asking if they are high in calories sounds like you were just looking for reassurance it was ok to be "naughty".

For future reference, cakes are high in calories. If you want to have a calorie controlled diet, you can't eat mars bar cupcakes.

Blatherskite · 06/02/2015 16:14

I'd guess she thought you were being sarcastic/funny and responded in kind.

Cupcakes = lots of calories

Mars bar = lots of calories

Capcake + Mars Bar = lots + lots of calories surely!

ClumsyNinja · 06/02/2015 16:18

They sell Mars Bar chocolate brownies at my local Spar shop.

They're absolutely delish and obviously zero calories. Grin

GlitzAndGigglesx · 06/02/2015 16:24

Waiting for the "Can you believe what stupidity I was asked today" thread. Fuck the calories enjoy the cake! A twix cupcake would be better imo

CrystalHaze · 06/02/2015 16:31

YABVVVVVU.

Your question was ridiculous. The assistant was a legend. Grin

UptheChimney · 06/02/2015 16:38

Nooooo, never any calories in a Mars Bar cake. It's well known that Mars bars are a diet food.

Oh what a silly question. If you had asked for a cupcake that was comparatively low calorie, then maybe you weren't BU. Or if you had joked that you were on a diet, so could she recommend the least calorific ... But really? Hmm

Nocturne123 · 06/02/2015 16:47

Sorry I enjoyed her response

WD41 · 06/02/2015 16:56

Great response to a stupid question.

RachelWatts · 06/02/2015 17:27

Anyone else really want a cupcake now?

seaoflove · 06/02/2015 17:31

She probably thought you were joking, and so gave you an equally jokey answer.

Excellent answer btw.
