  • not actually getting their nails done mind Confused

I've just walked past one of those Chinese/Korean nail bars and there were three buggies in there with sleeping babies in while, I assume, the mums were getting their nails done. It's a very small shop, no windows and quite a few (8+) techs working.

These places really smell of chemicals, you can smell it a good few shops away. I've used a place like this in the past for my nails and it takes a good 30 minutes start to finish.

Aibu in thinking it's not the greatest place for babies?

Yanbu. I wouldn't want to breathe those fumes myself, let alone subject a baby or child to it. Why not just take them to a chemical factory or smoke over them?

They are on the radar of law enforcement. Vietnamese nail bars are linked to human trafficking, drug supply and money laundering.

I imagine the damage is acumulative.

Don't you think it smells 'bad for you'

It probably is bad for you if spend 24/7 in there, yes.

I have taken my girls in while I have had my nails done and I will contine to do so, it's well run, never smells of chemicals, clean, sterilised, and staffed with competent technicians and good quality products. I have no qualms about it at all.

On the other hand, I would never set foot inside the nail bar around the corner who is half the price. I have no idea how much English they speak but they have been raided by UKBA, wear facial masks and looks cheap as anything. My nail girl did explain about the poor quality of the products they used and it's no surprise they wear masks, but I don't know the ins and outs of it. I don't want that on my nails.
