To think I am not 'too old' to have fossil bags?

I have just sold a mulberry handbag on ebay and I told the buyer I wouldn't have used it as I am really into fossil bags at the moment. She replied and said she was ''too old'' for those. I am confused.... are they for young people? I am 35..am I too old for them too?

Sure you're right OP, but it makes no odd to my phone and purse what they're carried around in. It's one of those things that makes me shrug. That and grown woman who go on and on about shoes; bloody Carrie Bradshaw.

Nutcrackerfairy - that is indeed a lovely one. I love the cross body explorers, I have a couple of them one in a really lovely orangey/tan colour! They are solid bags, fossil use really good quality leather and the straps are often very durable fabric that lasts (I often find on bags the straps are the first thing to go when leather).

New Look bags are generally plastic and fall apart/crack after a few uses. A Fossil bag is made of soft, buttery leather and will last for years and years if looks after. I have a couple of Radley bags (I know they're not popular on here) and they look as good after 100's (maybe 1000's) of uses as the day I got them.

New look bags are fine if you replace bags often or have a large selection to choose from. I have a few myself but they are nowhere near the quality of a fossil bag.

seeminglyso · 04/02/2015 21:00

Gtotobeinittowinit - Yes the leather is lovely quality, its that soft buttery feel you pay for :)

Fossil bags are classic and for any age! I've got one and I'm 40! When I see people with Mulberry bags I always assume they are the cheap (really good fake) ones you get on holiday in places like Dubai.

TwinkieTwinkle · 04/02/2015 21:08

I was given a fossil bag as a present at Christmas. I felt I was too young for it...

andsmile · 04/02/2015 21:08

I got two fossil bags for £70 once in TKMaxx - never been as lucky again.

They are small cross body bags one in brown, one in muted purple. I love them and I agree they are understated.

I've never associated bags with age. I dont get the fawning over expensive bags, the top end ones. I do look for a clean shape and good quality leather. I don't own many bags but I am at the age where I am trying to buy things that will last long term the elusive investment pieces Hmm

andsmile · 04/02/2015 21:09

Im 40 this year btw

magoria · 04/02/2015 21:09

my fossil watch broke Sad Got it in the NY store many years ago. Cannot find similar.

I am 46. I don't really do handbags though.

SummerHouse · 04/02/2015 21:12

I read the OP thinking no, you are never too old to collect fossils.

I am obviously too old.

seeminglyso · 04/02/2015 21:16

Ohanarama - how much do you think the good fakes are in Dubai?

andsmile TKMax I love that shop - I haven't ever seen a fossil in there, wow you were lucky! I am of that view too, I have stopped buying lots of cheaper ones in favour of a good quality sold bag of good quality leather and for me Fossil hits the sweet spot :)

Thanks to all for replying - I feel reassured now that I can keep my bags until at least my mid 40's :)

Nobody's explained why they're attractive! Please tell me! I don't care about the cost....I'd happily spend loads if I thought something was gorgeous but I need to know WHY a boring looking brown bag is so desirable. What's nice about them?

seeminglyso · 04/02/2015 21:17

Twinkletwinkle - how old are you?

OP posts:
GotToBeInItToWinIt · 04/02/2015 21:19

Mrs Tawdry if you don't think they're gorgeous then no amount of people explaining why they think they're gorgeous will make you change your mind! People have different tastes. If you don't look at it and immediately think 'that's lovely and worth £100 of my money' then don't buy one Smile

andsmile · 04/02/2015 21:20

mrs they are not all brown for a start - colours and patterns.

They have good quality leather and as OP said I think they are understated too.

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 04/02/2015 21:20

And yes, they have plenty of colours other than brown and lots of different shapes/styles

MrsTawdry · 04/02/2015 21:21

Got but it's the same with all bags to be honest! I look about and they're all sort of boring and nothing appeals. Maybe I'm just tacky naturally! Grin I like colours...bright ones.

WorraLiberty · 04/02/2015 21:23

I've never understood why people are interested in handbags

It's just something to keep your stuff in while you're out and about. Anything that fulfils that function is ok by me.

I genuinely couldn't spot a 'Mulberry' or a 'Fossil bag' if they hit me over the head.

seeminglyso · 04/02/2015 21:25

MrsT - they are soft buttery leather, durable, solid, classy and understated. That is why I like them. I think if you have a decent bag, good boots and a nice coat you can get away with cheap clothes :) That is why I always prioritise these three items. But as someone else said, you wouldn't be persuaded you either like them or you don't I suppose.

Shockers · 04/02/2015 21:27

I usually buy a Fossil bag once a year, but I keep my old ones too. They aren't brown leather, they're a sort of thick oilcloth with really nice patterns.

WestEast · 04/02/2015 21:28

My DP is getting me a fossil bag for my 30th!

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 04/02/2015 21:28

Worra the same reason people are interested in anything I guess. Some people value certain things, others don't. I like good handbags as I feel like they can lift an outfit. They make me feel groomed. I don't judge anyone who doesn't like handbags though! Horses for courses.

SaucyMare · 04/02/2015 21:29

they may be well made, but they still look bog standard, if i was spending that money i would want something that shouted "look at me extra funky handbag"

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 04/02/2015 21:30

Nothing wrong with that Mrs, if you like bright colours then go for bright colours! I've got some lovely bright bags but tend to use them more for nights out etc than daily use, mainly because I'm generally pretty boring!

madwomanbackintheattic · 04/02/2015 21:31

Fuck, I bought mil one last year for chrimbo. She's 72.
