Well I've just dusted off my old copy of TKAM and will re-read it in anticipation of the new book. I first read it 40 years ago.

The Capote rumour pisses me off too, started by those that really couldn't accept a woman could write literature.

Oh yeah, things that haven't changed much - any important book written by a woman must have involved help from a man, because you need a penis to write...

Thanks for that mental image, SGB Grin

I've heard the opinion today that publishing the new book is ok because 'what's the harm?'
I struggle to see what the 'harm' is, but the circumstance leave a hugely bad taste in my mouth. Somebody is going to profit (or many somebodys) and it ain't HL HmmAngry

After initially being quite a bit excited at the announcement, I've had time to think about it and read BOF's link I'm not so sure. I would want to be sure that this was exactly what Harper Lee wanted. If it is something that she's been persuaded to do against her will, or not within her full knowledge, then I would feel uncomfortable about it. I wouldn't want to read it.
