Bridget jones after attempting to read mad about the boy. It's utter drivel and I'm so pissed off it's tainted my view of Bridget jones Angry I loved the first two, but this is just awful, vacuous shit. Why, Helen fielding?? Just why???

Nb: I realise I'm a lot little late in getting round to reading this, but I really wish I'd left it unread....

I purposely haven't read it. Wish she'd have done one set just a couple of years later instead!

MrsPeterQuill · 28/01/2015 10:54

Oh I agree OP. Mad About The Boy is toe curlingly awful.

I loved the first two. And how could she do that to Mark Darcy? Angry

ohbollocks2u · 28/01/2015 10:55

Agree , it's shite

EmmaGellerGreen · 28/01/2015 10:55

I have read about a third of it. Utter utter drivel, so disappointed.

TwinkieTwinkle · 28/01/2015 11:00

Read it when it came out and hated it. Reread it a couple of weeks ago, in the hope I had missed some hidden charm the first time round. Hated it even more.

windchime · 28/01/2015 11:01

Helen Fielding obviously needs to pay for a new kitchen or something. I agree the book is drivel. Surely she isn't lost for ideas a one trick pony

shattered77 · 28/01/2015 11:26

All drivel Angry

CatThiefKeith · 28/01/2015 11:49

It didn't even make much sense, what with Daniel Cleaver being Marks best mate and godfather to their children.

I was gutted. The characters had become caricatures of themselves. It was like she'd written the book specifically for it to be turned into a rubbish film. (Hence DC being written into it) Sad

hoobygalooby · 28/01/2015 12:03

I hated it too.
When I read the first two I was in a similar situation to Bridget Jones – single and heading towards 30 and I totally identified with her and her daft friends but now I am still in a similar position (40 something, two kids etc) but I was so disappointed. It was unbelievable and stupid.

The most irritating thing of all was her description of the conversations with her kids. Children that age just don’t talk like that! I struggled to the bitter end but wish I hadn’t bothered.

ImBatDog · 28/01/2015 12:04

i gave up on it.

MaidOfStars · 28/01/2015 12:33

Agree, the DC thing is a blatant casting choice. Shame that RZ will have to be replaced, now that she looks nothing like her old self...

MaidOfStars · 28/01/2015 12:33

Oh yeah, and it was rubbish but it got me through a sleepless night.

MrsPeterQuill · 28/01/2015 17:49

hooby Same!

Read BJ in my twenties and thought 'this is literally my life!'

I was so excited about this sequel especially after reading the one that was serialised in one of the papers where she had a baby by DC (what?!) I thought it couldn't possibly be worse than that.

I was wrong.

AlfAlf · 28/01/2015 17:51

I must admit I quite enjoyed it Blush it was Christmas when I read it, I was pissed

TangledUpInGin · 28/01/2015 18:28

The thing that grated on me so much was the fact she was so shit with her responsibilities. She had masses if help, but still managed to mess everything up which is not particularly funny when it involves children. I don't know if I've just changed so much since the first books when I totally related to her and ended up on a very similar path, and am still in a lot of ways, but I just find her very juvenile with a total lack of substance.

I am now possibly more shocked at the fact I've turned into such a judgmental twat after spending my formative years as the epitome of a drunken slattern ShockGrin

I didn't like it either. I think she missed a really good opportunity with the whole newly married, pregnancy, new baby thing.

Piratespoo · 28/01/2015 18:36

She does have kids..I kind of know her...

PrimalLass · 28/01/2015 19:10

Try Hens Dancing and Summertime, both by Rafaella Barker. I loved those, but can't bring myself to read BJ#3. They are similar but different (ditzy mum character).

expatinscotland · 28/01/2015 19:25

It sucked.

TheWitTank · 28/01/2015 19:34

It really was shit. I kind of expected it, but was still disappointed. Bridget had become a moronic fool and a terrible mother and I took a really big dislike to her in this book. Wish I hadn't read it.

nameuschangeus · 28/01/2015 19:36

I haven't read it for this reason, I was frightened that it would spoil BJ for me. I'm glad now that I've read your post OP.

MuttonCadet · 28/01/2015 19:42

I'm slightly amazed anyone liked the first two.
