To think this is a bit disgusting

Yesterday morning we had a bit of a disaster when one of the radiators in the lounge burst. We used Tupperware boxes to catch the water.
After everything was all sorted someone in my household put the said boxes in the dishwasher along with all the plates, cutlery etc. Now this may be the germaphobe in my talking but I thought that was a bit 'yuck'.

We all have our foibles and this is one of yours.

I can't use anyone elses shower and put my feet on the floor so have to wear flipflops.

But I can wipe the floor with the dishcloth.

What sort of dreadful, communicable diseases do you think hamsters can pass on via a well cleaned lunchbox hmm Did you stop your children from touching the hamster?

It's just in my brain - full of orange hamster wee and droppings.

I used to run my tools through the dishwasher when I lived at home. Mum had no idea. The cowling to vacuum cleaner once too! And the lawnmower plastics too actually when I had in pieces once...

Although I must admit; totally unreasonably, the idea of the dog's bowls going through with my plates upsets me. Double standards!

EveDallasRetd · 28/01/2015 10:11

Dog bowls and yes, potties
(And let's not remind ourselves of the uproar when I admitted holding my DD over the kitchen sink to finish a wee once)

My dishwashers lowest setting is 70 degrees.

SilentCharisma · 28/01/2015 10:12

Oh and actually once, although I'm slightly embarrassed to admit this, as a 14 year old Mum and Dad went away on a long weekend but being disorganised I hadn't put my rugby stuff in the laundry.

I had no idea how to use our fancy pants all singing all dancing Bosch with it's digital programs so I put it through the dishwasher on an economy program, low temp. Worked too! Although I should have disabled the rinse aid...

Silent at 14 that shows amazing powers of lateral thinking!

YABU OP. Dishwashers clean things. Cat bowls, chopping boards with raw chicken on them, all come out clean, which is kind of the point.

Thanks though, youve just reminded me to put the washing machine drawer in there to get rid of the black mouldy stuff.

And I like the suggestion about putting the kitchen bin in there. Ours is disgusting, even by my extremely relaxed standards and I was going to just throw it away and buy another one until I saw the price of them (it is one of those two part Ikea recycling ones that takes up an entire fits in a kitchen cupboard and I thought it would be about 20, but they are more than double that, which I think is a price too high to pay to overcome a bit of household slovenliness TBH.

In our DW you can take out the top basket and put a spray attachment on the water outlet at the back to wash things that are too big to go on either the top or bottom basket. So yes, I am going to try the kitchen bin in there I think.

YABU. A dishwasher is for cleaning dirty things. I put the dog bowl in. We are still all alive.

splodgeses · 28/01/2015 10:56

Almost the opposite problem to a friend of mine once admitting she puts empty coke bottles and her dp's beer cans through the dishwasher before recycling them Hmm

YAB a tiny bit U, but each to their own bug bears. I refuse to wash linen and clothes in the same laundry load. Don't know why, because I wear clothes and obviously lay on my sheets, it just seems not right to me.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! we dont even use the same cloth for dishes as the kitchen sides (but shove all sorts of stuff in the dw)

I boil wash bedlinen; if it doesn't survive, it has no place in my house.

I used to ride, those sort of stirrups Grin
