I love it, but worried it looks like I'm wearing a slip?

Will people be laughing behind my back thinking I forgot to put clothes on? Wink

(Also I know it's out of stock but its all over ebay)

Pretty but definitely looks like underwear to me - would think the same even on a teenager. It's the lacy bits on the top & bottom that make me think of it looking like a slip.

Shhhhhhhh · 26/01/2015 19:34

I have that dress!

It doesn't look like underwear - it's actually quite "substantial". The layer under the lace is like a "normal" dress IYSWIM.

MehsMum · 26/01/2015 19:37

Looks like undies to my eye.
But then, I am accelerating towards 50.

MoanCollins · 26/01/2015 19:38

Princess Di had one like that and if she couldn't pull it off (she didn't) anybody else is going to struggle.

grumblepuss · 26/01/2015 19:40

Its very 90s grunge. I'm sure Courtney Love had one like it.

sherbetpips · 26/01/2015 19:40

I think it's supposed to be worn with something else, a great jacket or something, not sure it works on its own.

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 26/01/2015 19:44

Used to wear dresses like that all the time going out when I was 18/19/20. I'm 38 now and while my figure is ok I'd not be brave enough. Couldn't go without a bra anyway.

On a night out with a jacket would look lovely.

FightOrFlight · 26/01/2015 19:47

Just reading the reviews (all those size 6, 8 and 10's - eek!)

They all say to buy a size up as it's a very small fit and wear big knickers so you don't flash your fanjo when you sit down

Runningupthathill82 · 26/01/2015 19:48

I love it, love it, love it. To the point where I just checked the prices on Ebay as I want one.
Very 90s grunge and you'd need to have the figure for it, but I think I could rock that dress with black tights, DMs, lots of eyeliner and a fair bit of nerve.

Nancy66 · 26/01/2015 19:49

It looks like a rip off of the Louis Vuitton slip dress from a year or so ago - Victoria Beckham wore it to Wimbledon

I like the dress but doubt it would look good on anyone more than a size 10

Goldmandra · 26/01/2015 19:50

Is it me or does that model look like she wants to punch the photographer?

Behooven · 26/01/2015 19:51

That's a dress? You'll catch your death in that!

Wink
WD41 · 26/01/2015 19:51

Looks like underwear.

Think you could only get away with it if you were very young and slim.

Namechangeyetagaintohide · 26/01/2015 19:54

I'd wear it. Is that size 4 still available on ebay ?

amenicycinema · 26/01/2015 19:56

i'm a bit biased cause i work for topshop but I have that dress and its sooo nice on, really flattering & everyone who tries it on says its way nicer on than on the hanger iyswim! even if its out of stock online, use te store checker to see where it's available near you (input your size and postcode/area). the burgundy & dark green went into sale if you'd like another color Smile

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 26/01/2015 19:57

I think it's obviously quite structured underneath - hence "bodycon" so not flimsy enough to look like underwear IRL. It's eyewateringly short though - even at my youngest and slimmest I'd have needed 300 denier tights underneath it (and no bra).

amenicycinema · 26/01/2015 19:57

ps I usually wear it with a ribbed tee underneath and/or checked shirt over the top - even more 90s and not too cold! though my friend has worn it "dressy" on it's own and that's nice too!

Bogeyface · 26/01/2015 19:58

I think that it is only get-away-with-able (!) if you are under 25, size 10 or under and have self supporting (and smallish) boobs. Anything other than that and it would look a bit slapperish (sorry, but you asked!).

I do think it looks like a nightie on the model but presumable she will be at least 5' 8", and probably taller, so it will be a bit longer on you. I think its the length that makes it look nightie-ish, so if you are 5' 6" or below I think it would be ok.

Stinkylinky · 26/01/2015 19:59

I must see 5-10 people wearing this exact dress so I would avoid

Stinkylinky · 26/01/2015 19:59

When I go out I mean!

Namechangeyetagaintohide · 26/01/2015 20:02

I really want it now. Off to look on ebay.

anothernumberone · 26/01/2015 20:10

I did not realise there were pictures with the model. On her it really looks like a nightdress. If you were a foot smaller maybe.

WowserBowser · 26/01/2015 20:15

Here's Chloe from GS wearing it.

I think it is lovely in the green.
