To not want to buy a Moses basket (new) off EBay as a gift?

DFriend is expecting her first baby...the rest of our group of friends (there is 6 of us) want to buy a Moses basket-absolutely fine, am v happy to contribute! But they've found one from eBay from a seller on there (as opposed to somewhere like babies r us, mothercare etc). Brand new etc but nothing with regards to the mattress material or wether it meets any safety standards...everyone thinks I'm being daft!

I don't know WHY it makes me so nervous but AIBU to want to buy one from a reputable seller?! Am happy to admit I'm wrong if so

Agree with you, the mattress might have been stored in damp garage or similar. Although I bought second hand Moses basket and just bought a new mattress, only £7 from mothercare. Is that an option?

If there are six of you, then there's no need to bargain hunt to that extent, surely?

Email the seller and ask the questions you have, they will answer you.

If it's a business, they have to sell goods that comply with all UK safety standards etc.

YANBU. they had a gorgeous one in mamas and papas the other day on offer for something like £37. better to get it from an established shop.

Sorry, should've explained it better...it's a new basket from a company on there...though they sell mainly childrens stuff but from what I can tell, a lot is from china or russia(?!)...sorry I totally failed to proof read!

It's an unusual shape so I doubt we'll find a mattress to fit...

I just feel really uneasy and would rather pay slightly more to get it from a company I know and trust

If 6 of you are clubbing in just get one from a shop. YANBU to not want to buy it.

They're not that expensive from a shop -especially just now as there are still sales on.
