It is one of the biggest ball aches ever, but I am going out tonight. Had the dye for about a week, but I just can't be arsed doing the actual deed. I need a kick up the arse.

I so agree with this! I've let my hair go grey (well, salt and pepper) now because dying it every 6 weeks became such a massive drag. I only have very short hair as well, I don't think I'd have managed even as long as I did if I had anything longer than that. Also I began to really hate the smell.

Before I stopped dyeing I was finding it made my head itch before it was rinsed off, not terribly, no redness but really irritating all the same.
