to ask about Mcdonalds?

I rarely go to Mcds - my dc are fussy so one doesn't like burgers or nuggets and another hates chips. But last weekend I had promised dd 2 and 3 that we'd go to a cafe while dd1 was at a party. Traffic was horrendous and so we didn't have enough time before collecting dd1. I decided to go to mcds for milkshakes they could have in the car. I've never seen the place so busy. They were queuing out the door. All the tables were full and drive through was queuing. anyway, there was not enough time and I ended up promising to make milkshakes at home.
Aibu to ask the question - why are so many eating full meals at 3.30Pm? What is that-lunch or dinner or do they have lunch and dinner too?
I know it's tragic and I need a life but it's confusing me.

Are you French?

thornrose · 24/01/2015 11:56

These threads always make me fancy a bloody McDonalds.

rainyevening · 24/01/2015 11:56

In having an Ikea hotdog as we speak, and it's not long after my breakfast.

But if what you're REALLY asking is whether people are having a full McDonalds meal as a 'snack' between meals, and whether that contributes to obesity/ill health, then that's a reasonable debate. IF that's what they're doing.

I'd love a second Ikea hotdog now. Is that bad?

ihatethecold · 24/01/2015 12:04

My DD asked me what was in hotdogs yesterday.
I told her it's best not to ask! Shock

Wantsunshine · 24/01/2015 12:04

I always find it odd that people eat so early. I can't imagine eating lunch at 12 and dinner at 5 or 6. So I would be having lunch around half 2 but I would have dinner before 8. My kids do the same.

ihatethecold · 24/01/2015 12:05

My kids eat hot dogs rainy.
My comment wasn't a Criticism of your lunchtime delicacies.

rainyevening · 24/01/2015 12:06

No criticism taken, ihatethecold!

I'm literally eating a quarter pounder right now. Mmmmmmm

DamsonInDistress · 24/01/2015 12:24

For me 3:30 is an odd time, yes. We're early risers here so breakfast is 7/7:30, lunch at 12 (and I regularly eat it at 11:30 too), and then dinner as a whole family at 5:30 (we're v lucky that my husband's hours are such that he's home with us to eat every night). I don't eat after 6:30 if I can avoid it, unless we're out to dinner or something for a special occasion.

On the subject of McD's itself, I do love a dirty burger now and again but we probably only get the chance once or twice a year at service stations.

Ifyourawizardwhydouwearglasses · 24/01/2015 12:25

But I've ALWAYS wondered what kind of screwed up individual has milkshakes at 3.30. Surely it's a 4 o clock treat??

DoJo · 24/01/2015 12:28

Aibu to ask the question - why are so many eating full meals at 3.30Pm?

How do you know they were all eating full meals? If you were just there for the milkshakes, couldn't a number of those people conceivably have been doing the same?

I often don't eat anything until about that time - I don't get hungry for breakfast and then am out doing things at what you might think of as 'lunchtime' so I quite often eat my first meal of the day at about 3 - 3.30 and then have dinner at about 9 - 10.

Idontseeanysontarans · 24/01/2015 12:28

I think we should ban McD's threads until they start to deliver AngryGrin
I always crave a quarter pounder when one pops up on here!
OP it's the same with any restaurant or food outlet, people eat when they want to not when they're told they should - if I'm out with the DC's in Manchester we'll go and have something to eat when we're all ready, which might not be until 3pm. It might be McDonalds, it might be Carluccio's depending on what we fancy. They're both usually busy all day Smile

WorraLiberty · 24/01/2015 12:30

I don't get the whole explanation in the opening post about how the OP and her kids came to be there.

Why not just say, 'We went for a McDonalds and it was too busy'? Confused

betweenmarchandmay · 24/01/2015 12:34

Sometimes I have lunch dinner AND a mcdonalds.

ghostspirit · 24/01/2015 12:35

i was in bed thinking about mc'ds this morning... but can i really be arsed to get a bus just to go there. they should do deliverys...

but 3.30 school kicking out time. kids will b in there with their parents after school plus all the teenagers. i guess they were there at 3.30 for similar reasons to you. :/

Ifyourawizardwhydouwearglasses · 24/01/2015 12:36

Omg between me too.

MidniteScribbler · 24/01/2015 12:37

Maccas is my standard mid afternoon fare when I go to dog shows and will often not get a chance for lunch, so I grab a drive thru whilst driving home in the middle of the afternoon. But I'll skip my evening meal and just have a piece of toast or something light.

BitOutOfPractice · 24/01/2015 12:38

Oh lord I want a McDonalds NOW!

Idontseeanysontarans · 24/01/2015 12:39

I used to work opposite McDonalds, on all day shifts we would occasionally go before work, at lunch and on our way to the pub home Blush

I wasn't impressed with the McRib - there was so much sauce it was dripping everywhere and why is there any need for gherkins, ever??

DeladionInch · 24/01/2015 12:46

My local McDonald's has a soft play. 3:30 is an excellent time to grab a coffee and cake while both avoiding the expense of the akshall soft play up the road and letting the kids tire themselves out without my input. I'd be surprised if it wasn't heaving!

PureMorning · 24/01/2015 12:49

I had a maccy ds breakfast wrap with hash browns for breakfast.
Mc ribs are grim snd are not like how they used to be.

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 24/01/2015 12:52

We don't really have mealtimes, especially at weekends. I just eat when I'm hungry. So for example if on a Sunday I have a late breakfast at 10am, I would happily eat my 'lunch' at 3.30pm. My IL's have really rigid mealtimes and it drives me potty. Eat when you're bloody hungry, not when you think society dictates you should eat.

On another note, I would kill for a cheeseburger now.
