Davina's 5 Weeks to Sugar-Free is a total con and most people can't afford real maple syrup

I bought this to try and reduce my sugar intake , but the recipes are full of sugar just in the very expensive form of maple syrup and honey! Ffs I can barely keep my house warm let alone afford maple!

I can't believe that some people buy diet books. What losers.

alittlethyme · 24/01/2015 10:29

It's a health book ;)

Come & join our low carb Bootcamp on here.

It started on Monday. I am a sugar/carb fiend. Love love love sugar & carbs. Not had any since last Sunday.

I knows less than a week. But my bloat has gone. As have craving food constantly and being hungry all the time.

WooWooOwl · 24/01/2015 10:34

Why is it a con? Did this health book promise to be about making cheap sugar free meals on a budget, or do you just assume that all recipe books should only be allowed to use cheaper ingredients?

fatlazymummy · 24/01/2015 10:34

What are Davina's qualifications in health?

YoullShootYourEyeOut · 24/01/2015 10:35

Maple syrup is £2.99 in Aldi.

ApocalypseThen · 24/01/2015 10:38

It's a health book ;)

I'm as sad and disappointed in your belief that that's a health book as you are in other people trying weight watchers. You think one form of dieting is better or healthier than another yet you feel others have been taken in by the diet industry?

alittlethyme · 24/01/2015 10:40

Its a con because it pretends to be sugar free.

I think they are both as bad as each other.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 24/01/2015 10:43

You bought this book yet feel sad for people who believe in ww which you think is a con?Confused

fatlazymummy · 24/01/2015 10:46

alittlethyme if you feel conned then you only have yourself to blame really.
All the information you need to eat healthily/lose weight/reduce your sugar intake (whatever your goals are) is available free on the internet, often from people who actually know what they are talking about. No need to spend a single penny on it.

alittlethyme · 24/01/2015 10:51

Oh yes its my own fault, I do like healthy cook books though.

OP posts:
fatlazymummy · 24/01/2015 10:53

And not to mention, basic old common sense is free, as well.
To reduce sugar intake, don't eat sweet things. There, I'm a health expert as well. I think I'll write a book now Smile

ghostyslovesheep · 24/01/2015 10:57

YABU It's not a total sugar free book the clue is in the title

26Point2Miles · 24/01/2015 11:03

And what about exercise??

Have you tried that? Davinas dvd? Or is that 'a con' too op? You seem to think everything is a con!

Eat less move more.... Try clean eating?

fatlazymummy · 24/01/2015 11:03

thyme that's fine, but Davina is neither a chef or a health expert, so a 'healthy recipe' book written by her probably isn't going to be the best on the subject, is it?

alittlethyme · 24/01/2015 11:07

Many things in capitalism are a con..

OP posts:
26Point2Miles · 24/01/2015 11:09

I think you are conning yourself op

Trills · 24/01/2015 11:13

Added white cocaine sugar sounds good - do Ocado deliver it?

CRH2015 · 24/01/2015 11:15

I had a look at her article in the you mag last wk and I don't get it. honey, maple syrup, dates etc, all sugar!

antimatter · 24/01/2015 11:20

How can she spin that lie that maple syrup or honey don't contain sugar????

Well unless she just said - sugar is that white stuff in bags in supermarkets....

fatlazymummy · 24/01/2015 11:30

I expect her lawyers checked the book out first, so no one could sue her on the grounds of being 'conned'.
Davina McCall is a celebrity ,not a health or nutrition expert. If people like the OP want to increase her wealth by buying her brand then that's their look out really. Personally I'd rather keep that money for myself and use it on my heating or something else that will actually benefit me.
alittlethyme if you want to not be conned by capitalism just think about what you actually spend your money on.

Maple syrup tastes fowl outside canada. (Needs to revisit canada to check statement!). Grin

claraschu · 18/02/2015 07:17

Hi OP, you could try brown rice syrup, if you want something sweet which your body metabolises differently. It is 100% rice extract and is a complex carbohydrate, so different from sugar, maple syrup, fruit extract or honey.

It is sweet and tasty and good for baking, but expensive...

adsy · 18/02/2015 07:28

damnautocorrect Fructose is intrinsic sugar, right? If extra fructose is added to a food ( extrinsic) does the body process it differently?
Love this science bit me. Still waiting for a reply on the different molecular structures of white and other carbohydrate which I asked yesterday.

Oh wait, am I getting confused between science and utter bollox again?
