y6 sats?

(which would be unreasonable but I have heard that some schools stop PE and the like)

He has been doing it and has forgotten.

Keeps raining.

WooWooOwl · 23/01/2015 17:16

YABU to ask the Internet. YANBU to ask your ds's school.

LadyLuck10 · 23/01/2015 17:17

You are the parent you should be asking school, not random people here who can't tell you whyConfused

lovemyway · 23/01/2015 17:23

Whoa there! I think i'm NBU to think it's not on to scrap PE in favour of extra PE lessons in run up to SATS. PE is a curriculum subject after all. Can't find any info on gov websites about how much PE they should have. DD loves PE.

DD has had no exercise at school apart from break time. PE kit unused since Christmas. How many lessons should she have of PE?

There is a recommended target of two hours Pe a week however this is not compulsory

EdwiniasRevenge · 23/01/2015 17:29

There is (I think) a minimum entitlment. Its ok if one or two weeks miss this entitlement but not several consecutive weeks.

EdwiniasRevenge · 23/01/2015 17:30

X post with Maddy

Ifyourawizardwhydouwearglasses · 23/01/2015 17:31

YANBU.

Shannaratiger · 23/01/2015 17:33

I thought they had to do PE. Both my dc's have come home with trainers and coats covered in mud because they've done PE on the field in the light rain.
Maybe it's just our school wanting to get rid of their energy!

lovemyway · 23/01/2015 17:34

I am going to ask school, just hate being a moony parent. I know teachers have pressures etc which is why I haven't asked up tip now. I think since Sept she has only had a about 5 lessons.

ItsAllKickingOffPru · 23/01/2015 17:34

YANBU then. It's 2 hours per week iirc.

lovemyway · 23/01/2015 17:34

*moany. Though I could try mooning lol

Is it a space/weather issue? We have a hall, but each class can only be allocated 1 hour per week, the other hour of pe is outside, weather permitting. If the hall hour has to be cancelled for some reason (special assembly, parent event, special dinner meaning dinner time overruns) there is nowhere to make it up. And with the weather we've had lately, it's been too cold/windy/icy to do PE outside.

As a result, some classes have been doing PE in their own classroom (moving tables and chairs out of the way). One parent did come in asking why their child hasn't done PE for ages though, turns out child didn't think it was PE due to being in classroom!

lovemyway · 23/01/2015 17:50

It's been cold but they have winter PE kit, no excuse for not doing it as it's been mainly dry.

Definitely agree with response number two - ask the school and all will mysteriously be revealed. Ask a load of strangers who have no idea about your school and you will probably learn nothing.

lovemyway · 23/01/2015 17:53

I was hoping to to check I hadn't missed something, like do other schools still have PE with Sats looming? Hope that's ok with you !!!!

Ha ha ha.... welcome to the wonderful world of primary school SATS hothousing. Is it any wonder that many come out with inflated levels and then regress in secondary school.

lovemyway · 23/01/2015 17:57

As i suspected!
