to think I shouldn't be on this ward?

Im in hospital on a ward full of noisy older men who keep shouting sexist views and are competing over who has the most disgusting and worst symptom.

WIBU to discharge myself if they try and make me stay here tonight? I didn't think mixed wards were allowed.

I've had a horrible thought. I had a period two weeks ago, but I've also just started bleeding now. My periods were fairly normal before. No-one's done a pregnancy test in hospital. I've got a test, going to do it in a bit. Scared :(

Regardless of pregnancy test, contact your Dr. again and tell them about unexpected bleeding. It's a new symptom.

gotthemoononastick · 27/01/2015 12:22

Oh Moomin, this is the most terrible pain there can be!Good luck and hope they pinpoint exactly what it is soon.

If you can still post and care about busy wards, you are OK.If it gets worse, you will blissfully not give a fig and they will put you on a drip with pain meds. in.

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 27/01/2015 12:25

Pregnancy test negative. Waiting for call from the doctors still.

Last night I was at that point got where they could've stuck me naked in a corridor surrounded by gawping people and I'd have accepted it for a morphine drip! Grin

Today the cocodamol is taking the edge off it but its really tender to touch like I've bruised it Hmm

Thing is the pain can come and go even when you drink water! If your gallbladder is inflamed already they will have to get it down first before surgery.

Hopefully it is a blocked duct (stone),and they will operate soonest!

You will feel a different person afterwards, and not believe how many horrid little symptoms leave you forever!(experience, not a medical person here)

TheVioletTinsel · 27/01/2015 12:41

Did you get any discharge paperwork op, as that should say if they have requested a scan or expect gp to

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 27/01/2015 12:50

Not had any discharge paperwork at all.

GP has called, scan is still booked for 11th Feb, but he's prescribed me tramadol. Would have admitted me but they're so short on beds I'd have been waiting hours in A&E for one. Option to reassess the situation at a later date.

And to think this thread started because you didn't like sharing your room with some noisy men! Poor you, OP, hope the painkillers work soon and you can get some rest x

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 28/01/2015 00:28

Tramadol is amazing

fromparistoberlin73 · 28/01/2015 06:10

Pleased you are on some heavy duty stuff x

anothergenericname · 28/01/2015 08:22

Yikes! Sounds like you're really going through the mill!

PasstheDaimbars · 28/01/2015 18:35

?? yes tramadol is great

fromparistoberlin73 · 29/01/2015 22:40

How are ya?

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 30/01/2015 00:37

Thanks for asking :)

I'm feeling a lot more human now, the pain is still there and if I'm late taking the tramadol it's still very bad so I don't think whatever's causing it has improved at all, but the tramadol is at least letting me function, getting my dissertation done and spending time with DD. I feel like I can last until the scan on the 11th now!

All the symptoms point towards gallstones but I'm still really nervous about the scan. There's a mass that they've said might be a hernia but is an odd shape and place on the other side, so I'm having that scanned too and I'm nervous :(

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 11/02/2015 00:30

Just bumping because the scan is tomorrow and I'm really nervous :(

I am sending you lots of good luck vibes .......

dontevenblink · 11/02/2015 10:11

Good luck Flowers

binspin · 11/02/2015 10:43

Goodluck moomin.

How have you been feeling?

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 11/02/2015 15:34

I've been just about managing on Tramadol but it only takes the edge off so I can just about function. Next step up from this is morphine according to the doctors, think it's going to come to that :(

Scan showed nothing! No explanation for the gallbladder pain, no explanation for the lump/mass in my stomach, the weight loss, lack of appetite, nausea, vomiting, toilet-related issues... I have no idea what happens now.

OP posts:
Littletabbyocelot · 11/02/2015 17:54

So sorry you've not had an explanation. Keep pushing for them to find something as your symptoms are not ok. Good luck

JsOtherHalf · 12/02/2015 08:34

Sorry to hear the scan showed nothing.

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 12/02/2015 13:55

Went back to GP today who said they never tested for pancreas or liver function in the hospital so she's ordered those blood tests. Also trying out buscopan, omeprazole and amitryptiline to rule out another few things. Had a look and amitriptyline is sometimes used for something called biliary dyskinesia, as at first I was confused why they were using an antidepressant.

OP posts:
leedy · 12/02/2015 13:58

Yeah, it's an antidepressant but also has effects that work on other conditions (gets prescribed for neuralgia a lot) - similar to aspirin being both a painkiller and a blood-thinner.

MissDuke · 12/02/2015 14:20

Is the pain high up under the ribs? Did you do another pregnancy test? I am sorry you haven't got any answers yet :-(
