to think I shouldn't be on this ward?

Im in hospital on a ward full of noisy older men who keep shouting sexist views and are competing over who has the most disgusting and worst symptom.

WIBU to discharge myself if they try and make me stay here tonight? I didn't think mixed wards were allowed.

OP, since you were admitted for the day yesterday, I suspect they'd give you something stronger if you tell them that paracetamol alone didn't work yesterday - for the same problem.

They'll likely give you paracetamol as well to piggyback stronger painkillers though as years ago they found (by accident) that paracetamol strength is doubled when taken with something morphine based.

Letmeeatcakecakecake · 24/01/2015 16:48

OP, as someone who once spent 9 months in hospital (sob) can I give you a very sneaky tip?

I will probably get flamed for this, but I will shamelessly admit I did this regularly (teenage cancer ward, were usually empty rooms anyway)

Say you've have really bad diarohea. They will put you in a side room.

prepares for backlash but like I said.... The rooms were empty anyway!

Been seen, they're confident its not immediately dangerous but theyll call if bloods show anything. Weekend pass to the surgical unit if I need to, but emergency scan on Monday and seeing thr surgeons afterwards.

Feel immensely relieved. Now time to sleep all weekend on the sofa if I can zombify myself enough

Peepants78 · 26/01/2015 01:20

Hope you are doing ok? Good luck for the appointment tomorrow/later today(!)

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 26/01/2015 12:29

Waiting for a call from the hospital to call me in.

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 26/01/2015 14:35

Turns out they had no intention of calling me. They won't give me an emergency scan despite what A&E promised. But they never thought to call and let me know.

What do I do now then?

OP posts:
TwinkleDust · 26/01/2015 14:47

PALS?

Peepants78 · 26/01/2015 15:22

What about giving your GP a call. Perhaps they can arrange one?
Is the pain still as bad? I'd be tempted to head back to A&E if so.

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 26/01/2015 16:00

Heading back to A&E tonight. I asked the woman on the phone what I should do and she said either go to my GP to see if I can be bumped up the list a little, or go back to A&E.

If anyone suggests I'm wasting their time I'll make sure they know that one of their staff told me to come.

Moomin the radiography departments aren't open in the evening/night for routine stuff (at least not at our hospital) so they won't be able to give you a scan until tomorrow. GP referral might be the best idea if you can get an emergency appt with them tomorrow and then take the scan request to the hospital?

fromparistoberlin73 · 26/01/2015 21:02

Oh you are having a time .... Update when you can x

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 26/01/2015 21:44

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 27/01/2015 08:34

Nurse came out at one and told us it'd be hours until we'd be seen, so we left. Not sure what to do now. I just want to wake up and the pain has gone :(

OP posts:
HoraceCope · 27/01/2015 08:37

can you go to GP
or ring about the scan
ring the SAU?

ChocolateTeacup · 27/01/2015 08:42

Hope you are getting sorted, I'm just home from hospital after getting appendix out, that my GP thought was constipation and gave me dietary advice for...

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 27/01/2015 09:12

SAU were the ones who told me to go to GP or A&E yesterday. They're all going to start getting pissed off at me for bothering them aren't they :(
