AIBU to ask the neighbours to open the curtains?

A youngish couple with no children bought a house on our estate about a year ago. They don't get involved with any of the activities such as the summer bbq and basically seem to isolate themselves from the rest of us, their loss. However my main bug is that they NEVER have the living room curtains open and quite often leave the other ones shut also, today every single one of them are shut and I know they are home.

I've hinted a couple of times that it would be best for them to leave them open, the girl mumbled something about a projector and watching films, but they can't be watching films all the time.

AIBU to just point blank ask them to open the curtains during the day, it really depresses me to look across to their house with all the curtains closed, it doesn't look inviting and it looks odd compared to the rest of the estate, we all manage to open their curtains everyday, so why can't they? My DH thinks I'm BU and should just leave them to it but I think when it effects other people I have a right to say something?

...no nets, voiles or anything either!

Germgirl · 21/01/2015 17:11

A stained bedsheets Salmo ?

Salmotrutta · 21/01/2015 17:13

Yes, yes Germ.

Stained is best I always find.

fuzzpig · 21/01/2015 17:16

My curtains are very much a metaphor for my emotional state. If they're closed, it means the world can fuck right off :o

Ohfourfoxache · 21/01/2015 17:25

Ah, but bedsheets stained with what?

Blood?
Spunk?
Shit?

I mean, what type of stain would adequately convey the appropriate message I wonder?

mortil2 · 21/01/2015 17:33

I've just shut my curtains... Should I straighten up my bins a bit more?

Kab13 · 21/01/2015 17:38
Hmm
TookALittleLongWayRound · 21/01/2015 17:38

I wish my neighbours kept their curtains shut. It would mean I'm not confronted with my 65 year old neighbours hairy arse on occasion. He clearly runs a open curtain house hairy arse out policy in his home.

Lovely gentleman he is too Grin

UptheChimney · 21/01/2015 17:40

I think you need to seek help, OP or gainful employment, if all you have to worry about is your neighbour's curtains.

I can't believe anyone would even ask whether they were reasonable about this!

Germgirl · 21/01/2015 17:46

All of the above I reckon OhFour. Give the op something to really hoick her judgy pants at.

MrsDiesel · 21/01/2015 17:46

Mine stay shut it is soooo cold!!

pluCaChange · 21/01/2015 17:48

Please, please, MNHQ, don't delete this thread. It has made me feel so much calmer after a crappy afternoon!

Germgirl · 21/01/2015 17:49

I wonder if the op would like to live near my dad.
His house is on a corner plot set back and higher than the road so the whole street can see into his front room.
My dad has an unfortunate habit of wandering around naked. Many's the time I've been confronted with his genitals when driving into his road.
I think his neighbours would love it if he'd shut his curtains. 75 year old flappy genitalia can't be the most pleasant thing to encounter when you're out walking the dog.

Tinkerball · 21/01/2015 17:50

I don't blame the BBQ avoiding bastards either, a BBQ with my neighbours would be my idea of hell.

Ohfourfoxache · 21/01/2015 17:55

Grin Germy (hope you're doing ok btw Thanks)

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 21/01/2015 17:59

I used to live somewhere with a resident's association. We missed the Easter luncheon by accident. Fuck me, the fall out...

ghostspirit · 21/01/2015 17:59

very odd thing to moan about op... what else bugs you :/

Bair · 21/01/2015 18:01

AIBU to ask the neighbours to open the curtains?
Germgirl · 21/01/2015 18:12

OhFour :) I'm ok. Better than I was anyway! Thank you for asking Smile

TheIronGnome · 21/01/2015 18:20

Hahahahah! I don't know exactly what I'm laughing at yet but it is funny!

emotionsecho · 21/01/2015 18:23

Were you blackballed YoureAll?

We are not overlooked so -shock, horror- only close the curtains if it is really coldShock most of the time they are just window decoration pieces.

ChickenWireIsSharp · 21/01/2015 18:25

I'm glad you're okay Flowers

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 21/01/2015 18:25

This thread needs moving to Classics, not deleting.

If you're still there OP, I'll tell you a story about curtains that'll make your head spin.

In 1976, my parents sold a house and moved about 10 houses down the road and left the net curtains behind. Those curtains were closely monitored by DM for the next Thirty Five Years, during which time they gradually darkened as they were not washed or changed not once during that time Shock.

We never open our bedroom curtains and only really open the downstairs ones in winter because the cats like yo sit on the windowsill and look out.

Spadequeen · 21/01/2015 18:26

Please don't delete hq, this has really cheered me up

RevoltingPeasant · 21/01/2015 18:28

Am I the only childish person who has started replacing "curtains" with "bacon curtains" in every post? It makes the OP a lot better.
