To say I cannot stand my BIL?

He has a really weird sense of humour and is unable to make small talk without criticising people, making fun of them and just being weird!

Tonight I have had to put up with 15 minutes of him monopolising the conversation, him telling everyone what they will or won't do and took the p£ss out of poor dog who feels the cold so was wearing her knitted coat - all this said whilst he is wearing a hat that could have been knitted in the 70's!

We have to go out with him and in laws in 2 weeks and already thinking of how to get out of it!

DH said that he came out of in laws feeling stressed out- we had to have a stink to recover!

15 mins isn't really very long, and now you don't have to see him for 2 weeks.

I doubt the dog's feelings were hurt.

If you like your IL's, then go to the meal. If you don't like any of them, don't bother.

If you can't get out of it you need to have some pithy responses handy, perhaps the MN wits can come up with some suggestions if you can give us a flavour of the type of things he says. Alternatively, you could live thread from the event and we could post instant putdowns!

FWIW one of my pet hates is when someone starts a conversation with me with the line "You should...."

YANBU. I can't stand mine either - different reasons, my BIL is a lazy, greedy, selfish, thoughtless unappreciative twat. And those are his good points.

heck, sounds like my first husband, that is worrying, he drove me insane at times, for example sitting in the lounge one day just the two of us, no radio,t.v on - no distractions, i was talking and asked 'what do you think?' no response, 'well ?' still no response 'am i talking to myself?' then he replies 'what ?' i answer 'i've been talking to you, you didn't answer the question, then he replies 'didn't know you were talking to me, you never said my name !. WTF ????? reread first bit again if confused. sweetieO i feel your pain !!

I have a BIL I can't stand. He's a pig, is revolting to be around and it makes me cringe to see the way he speaks to his DC and DP.

Fortunately we rarely see him.

How old is he? Is he one of those permanently girlfriendless types?
