agree - ditto all yoghurts marketed at small children. Will they die if they don't get their god given right of 3 petit filous per day?

My toddlers love yoghurt but they are more than happy with lovely full fat greek yoghurt with some fruit on top. Sometime I go wild and put a teaspoonful of jam on top - still way less sugar than one of those bloody petit filous. And they don't need it every single day after every meal.

PetulaGordino · 21/01/2015 11:01

I used to get it in sainsbury's but I haven't bought it for a few months. V sad if it is no longer available though

lemonhope · 21/01/2015 11:03

the liberte yogurts are really nice and don't have sweeteners

both my older girls and me are addicted to them

lemonhope · 21/01/2015 11:04

not sure what the difference is between liberte (greek yog with blueberries underneath) and greek yogurt with blueberry jam in it? And they are only £1 in asda atm Smile

iklboo · 21/01/2015 11:06

That new Activia Fibre one looks like it's got a pot of mealworms on top.

FamilyAdventure · 21/01/2015 11:10

I hate all diet foods TBH. Anything marked low fat or reduced sugar or "only" xxx calories isn't allowed in the house. Strangely, we are all a healthy weight.

The yogurt industry is amazing from a marketing POV. When I was young (only a few decades ago!) yogurt was a strange foreign food only eaten by hippy types. Look how far it's come Hmm

And the way heavily sugar (or sweetener) laden yogurts have the whole country (it seems) believing that they're healthy. How did they do that?

lemonhope · 21/01/2015 11:13

Well I am nearly 50 and I remember with fondness devouring a family size tub of ski blackcurrant yogurt - we weren't a hippy family although mum did make her own yogurt in the end because I loved it.

I think we've always had sweet yogurt and there's nothing wrong with low fat - it's the sweeteners that are sinister.

IHaveBrilloHair · 21/01/2015 11:21

0% fat Total yoghurt is like cold, melted pritt stick, bleeuuurgh.

FamilyAdventure · 21/01/2015 11:29

Yes lemon, Ski was the first and has recently celebrated it's 50th birthday. Before that yoghurt was considered very odd.

lemonhope · 21/01/2015 11:45

I don't really do low fat but some low fat yougurts are absolutely fine

yeo valley do a big one with grains in it which is delicious

dexter73 · 21/01/2015 11:50

I'm 41 and we always had yogurts (especially Ski!!) when we were little. I think low fat yogurts are ok. They are pretty much the same as drinking semi-skimmed milk which almost everyone has instead of full fat milk.

lemonhope · 21/01/2015 11:55

I grew up on yogurts and so has dc3

I am delighted that dc1 now likes them as they are a quick, easy source of protein

the sugar doesn't bother me one bit but I don't buy the ones marketed at kids

ASDA do a brilliant £1 set of smooth no bits fruit yogurts which dc3 eats tons of

I like the French sugar ones

SunnyBaudelaire · 21/01/2015 11:59

I just really hate the whole thing about women having 'treats' and being 'naughty' and looking after their 'tummies' it is just so infantilizing and patronizing.
If I want a 'treat' I will have a large spliff and a jam doughnut thanks

iklboo · 21/01/2015 12:04

I prefer the low fat Total as it makes me less mucousy (TMI, sorry). With loads of fresh berries & a tablespoon of ginger preserve on top.

Plonkysaurus · 21/01/2015 13:34

Sunny Grin

noddyholder · 21/01/2015 13:38

Yes agree the 'naughty' thing drives me potty (although I love yoghurt) Grin

FuzzyWizard · 21/01/2015 15:17

The nicest yoghurty thing I've had is an Icelandic version called skyr. I think it's technically a cheese but it's thick and lovely and seemed to be flavoured with proper fruit and sugar. So delicious... Looking forward to my next trip to Iceland mostly due to the dairy products. I might try to bring back a suitcase full of butter and Skyr. Nothing that nice gets sold in our supermarkets.

Mitchy1nge · 21/01/2015 15:33

fage 0% is my life

there is a good argument for yoghurt in the prevention of osteopenia etc, fermented milk products are better than normal milk

noddyholder · 21/01/2015 15:35

Yes agree very good for bones.

Mitchy1nge · 21/01/2015 15:36

women + yoghurt = better bone density, maybe

I love yogurt but far prefer greek yogurt with fruit.

I make wee pots to have at lunch - put some forozen raspberries (or any other fruit) in a wee pot and top with yogurt - by lunch time the berries have melted and you have a lovely cool fruity yogurt Smile usually get lidl greek but must try the Turkish one....

A colleague used to have a muller corner everyday for lunch - one of the really sugary ones with chocolate coated stuff in the corner and used to complain that she only ate them as yogurt was healthy! I did not have the heart to explain how far what she was eating was from actual healthy yogurt.

Has the woman who can't eat her yoghurt with gold balls (Confused) without sticking her nose in it been mentioned yet?

I had half a family tub of Rachel's Greek yoghurt topped with Yeo Valley fruit compote after lunch. I neither know, nor care how many calories it had in it because it was blimmin lovely.

Mousefinkle · 21/01/2015 17:10

The diet ones are full of carcinogenic chemicals. The low fat ones are full of sugar.

If you're going to eat yogurt do it right and eat regular full fat plain yogurt. Too sour? Add a little honey or agave syrup and definitely have it with fruit. Easy. Avoid 'diet' anything, it's code word for carcinogenic sweeteners.

The trick isn't avoiding fat and sugar all together, it's reducing them and your overall portions in General but then, that advice doesn't sell stuff.
