From today's Daily Telegraph:
www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/11354515/Boy-5-given-invoice-for-missing-friends-birthday-party.html
If you can't be bothered to read it all, the child was invited to, and accepted, schoolmate's birthday party - a dry ski outing.
But something else came up for invitee's family, involving grandparents, so the child didn't go to the party and somehow the parents couldn't (they claim) inform the birthday child's parents.

Result: in the no-show child's school bag, an invoice for the cost of the place at the dry ski that the child didn't go to (fifteen quid and change). Now escalated into threats of Small Claims Court! No show child's family say they had no contact details to say child was not attending ... birthday child's parents say oh yes they did ..... discuss!

Oops, sorry - and just seen it's featured in the Daily Wail. Cringe from me too.

I'm sure someone else will post up other links.

The threads are proliferating!

Hmmm!!! Do the birthday child's parents have a copy of a contract, where the no show's parents agreed to reimburse the cost if their child ended up not going, because I'm not sure how they could win their case otherwise.
Got a feeling the poor birthday child will get a load of "Sorry, can't make it"s next year.
People not showing up to children's parties is annoying but it happens and is one of those things it may be better to take on the chin.

Sorry oldgrandmama but I'm going to have to bill you for making me read about this yet again, if you could just give me your address that will make it a lot easier than having to get the courts involved.

oldgrandmama · 19/01/2015 12:22

Oh god, sorry, sorry, MNs, didn't realise this topic had been done to death ... RinseyMinceySpider, just send your invoice to me at ... er. my PC just gone all funny ...
