We've splashed out on a very fancy double buggy to accommodate ds1 (3) and ds2 (5 weeks) and I'm just not sure where to keep it. Unlike our old one it doesn't fit easily in the car (it fits, but in pieces which have to be assembled) and in our new house, unlike our old, the car is round the corner so it's difficult to walk round and get it all out/assembled on my own with both kids. It's easier for me if its assembled and sat in the hallway. (We also have a garage but it has a damp problem so I don't want buggy in there... Also it's the same distance from the front door as the car so same problems re kids).
My dfolks think its a bit grim to keep it in the hallway (dogshit/germs from the wheels) and dh finds it unaesthetic there:-) but AIBU to decide its the best option?

Sorry, hadn't noticed that it's a double. Mine is a phill and teds double too but haven't used the double seat. I didn't use it with dc2 and 3 who are 2.5 years apart either. I did use it for a while when dc1 was just 2 and dc2 was born and kept it in the hall. It did start out in garage but going to get it each time was too much hassle. Dh did prefer it in garage though for same reason as yours!

MissWimpyDimple · 19/01/2015 18:08

So you bought a pram that's too fiddly to fit into the boot, too precious for the garage and too big for the hall AND its for a 3 year old and the baby. What will you do when the 3 year old is walking?
I'm not one to say that kids should be out of buggies by 3, but I must say I don't think I would invest heavily in something for them!
Looks like it will have to live in the hall until the summer when you sell it and get something lightweight for the baby

SaucyJack · 19/01/2015 18:12

We keep ours in the living room. Do have a storage unit in the stair well but it's full of crap (like eight year old DD2's buggy.....) to use.

MrsMonkeyBear · 19/01/2015 18:48

Mine currently lives behind the front door, still has to be wheeled into hall, 3 point turned and back towards door and reverse for going out. Next week, I haven't got a clue, as we are moving. Probably in hall still but will have to get a mat for it to sit on don't want to muck up the new carpets

LittleBearPad · 19/01/2015 18:56

In the car boot. No way am I carrying up three flights of stairs.

Sorry but do you really need a double? We have DD 2.9 and DS 7 wks. A buggy board/walking seems to be working so far for DD.

Some 3 year olds need a buggy, it's not unusual. Hmm

MrsHathaway · 19/01/2015 20:42

I have a P&T for the 3.9 and the 1.2 - 3.9 is probably in it half the time.

It's because we do 3-5 miles of school run per day. He can't walk that far in the time available. When I tried a buggy board at 2.7 he used to fall asleep standing up with his face resting on his brother's legs.

He has agreed to go back to single plus buggy board when he is 4. He rides a lot still but sleeps less. I hope he'll be more motivated in September when it is his school run...

My P&T lives in the garage. Obviously.

MassaAttack · 19/01/2015 20:46

Prams belong in hallways. It's traditional.

GreatJoanUmber · 19/01/2015 20:53

We have one in the garage (single Nipper 360), and the other in the car (Quinny Zapp).
I agree with whoever mentioned it's worth sorting out your garage! The Nipper is used for off-road walks, so pretty much constantly caked in mud and I wouldn't want it anywhere in the house.

Notso · 19/01/2015 21:14

Nipper in the hall, bit annoying but no real alternative. It's just as bulky folded too.
My double used to be folded up in the hall, which was neater but a pain folding/unfolding all the time.

TeWiSavesTheDay · 19/01/2015 21:18

Our double lives on the corner of our conservatory/dining room on a turtle mat. It's the easiest door to get it in/out of and most space to leave it up!
the cheapie single lives in the car.

I couldn't care less if anyone doesn't like it, I'm not going to make my life harder for aesthetics.

curiousgeorgie · 19/01/2015 21:19

Lots of 3 year olds need prams. Mine did. There's no need to be so judgemental Hmm

TheBooMonster · 19/01/2015 21:20

our tank is in the hallway under the stairs, we've got an offcut of carpet that it sits on because we were advised the wheels could stain the new flooring...

Mammanat222 · 19/01/2015 21:22

We have a chameleon. Chassis goes on first landing (its out of sight) and top part goes in a cupboard. We're just about to change it back to the carry cot part and add a buggy board though as new baby due any day now.

TeWiSavesTheDay · 19/01/2015 21:26

My 3yo also uses a double. He still falls asleep in it most afternoons!

SoonToBeSix · 19/01/2015 21:41

Three year olds don't need a pram unless SN. A buggy board might be useful for long distances.

TeWiSavesTheDay · 19/01/2015 21:42

You're wrong stb6 hth.

curiousgeorgie · 19/01/2015 21:48

Soontobe6... Your experience of 3 year olds isn't the be all and end all. I know several 3 year olds who needed a pram because of how far their parents had to walk to school, or the terrain... Or even just because they still needed naps and it was the best way to ensure they got them without being tied to the house.

My DD had a buggy recently on holiday at age 4. She needed it. They were long tiring days.

You don't know everyone's circumstances.

Thurlow · 19/01/2015 21:50

And where do you put the buggy board if you don't have a second DC and another pram/pushchair? Confused

MassaAttack · 19/01/2015 22:00

Was about to ask the same myself, Thurlow.

It's unreasonable to expect a 3 yo (or indeed a 4 yo) to walk 5+ miles all the time. Mine spent very little time in his at that age, but when he needed a rest in his pushchair, he needed it.

Postchildrenpregranny · 19/01/2015 22:11

DD1 was 3yrs 8m when DD2 born . DH walked her to nursery on his way to work and I collected her with the baby in a 'proper' Silver Cross Pram. It had a little seat you fitted across that DD1 sat on for the last few hundred yards home, as it was 1.5 miles and she got tired. It lived in our large porch (I had a simple fold up buggy for my car, just for the baby .) No help to you, I know . I just like reminiscing. I know v. few people have a proper coach built pram now ( I bought it for a song from a friend and sold it on), but it was brilliant to push -high handle, big wheels -and the babe slept like a dream in it , I often left her in the porch - and had loads of space to put your shopping . Oh happy days .

BramwellBrown · 20/01/2015 01:08

I don't have a buggy anymore but it lived in the very small hallway on an old bit of carpet, we used to have to breath in and squeeze past to get out the door, which was pretty annoying but less annoying than having to get it out the shed on my own. TBH your eldest will only be in it for a few months, maybe a year so I'd go with convenience over aesthetics and I can't see that pram wheels in the hallway are any more grim than shoes, after all you will have walked across the same ground the buggys been across so likely have the same germs on your shoes, just wipe the wheels off if you've run over a dog poo.

BramwellBrown · 20/01/2015 01:21

And as for the ages, DS was 2.5 when he stopped needing a buggy and could walk nicely to the shops, DD was 4 (and to be honest even now she's 6 there are days I miss the buggy because she hates walking and gets distracted by everything, including her own feet some days) DS has SN, DD doesn't, some children just need a buggy longer than others.

monkeymamma · 20/01/2015 01:56

Thanks for all the the replies! They've made me feel better about the dog shit issue, I get quite anxious about hygiene especially as five week old is making my hormones go into overdrive :-)

Miaow and Georgie and all those sticking up for 3yo buggy users - thank you! To the naysayers - we have to use a buggy as the walk into town is 40mins plus (I don't drive) and ds1 still bolts into the road occasionally. I've had plenty of stick for using a buggy for him from family members :-) but after a lot of thought we did feel it was necessary. He loves the fancy buggy too and has had a few naps in there... :-)
