She is just about to start reading the Harry Potter series for the first time.

I will never have that experience ever again.

Bitch.

Yanbu. I'm jealous of your sister too!!

WinnieTheBitch · 18/01/2015 23:31

YAtotallyNBU!

HealthyChanges · 18/01/2015 23:31

I've never read the books but I've seen the films, I'm not sure if seeing the films would have ruined the books IYSWIM.

wheresthelight · 18/01/2015 23:31

yanbu!!!! i cannot wait for dd to be old enough so i can read it for the first time in a vicarious manner (she is 17 months so will be a while!)

Yanbu

WorraLiberty · 18/01/2015 23:36

I could never get into the HP books or films

God knows I tried, but I just found them totally boring and not my thing.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 18/01/2015 23:40

My kids are 3yo and 4mo and I eagerly await a time I can read HP to them at bedtime. It will be nice to (hopefully) relive it through them.

I'm jealous too! I remember reading the series growing up, waiting for the next book to come out and then going without meals and sleep because I couldn't bare to put the book down!

I've actually just re read the last book while doing night feeds etc and I still love it! They're beautifully written and so full of magic. It also made me realise how awful the films are though.

Hoppinggreen · 19/01/2015 10:40

Yes, I pity her. They are shite

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 19/01/2015 10:42

The films really are dire.

I'd like to be able to read the Deathly Hallows again for the first time - that was the only one that really jumped out at me as the great one of the series.
Agree that they do show the films up to be not that brilliant on the whole.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 19/01/2015 10:45

The only bit I didnt like in the books is when it is established that the Put Outer also transports you to places. It really could have been mentioned, even in a really small part, in earlier books.

Yabu

Harry Potter is rubbish. There isn't a single original idea in any of the books.

I must be missing something though, because I honestly don't know how adults people get themselves so worked up about them.

EdSheeran · 19/01/2015 13:06

YABU, not getting the hype. I read the first few Harry Potter books as a child and enjoyed them. It then dragged on and on. The adult obsession with the books is a bit OTT in my opinion.

lalalonglegs · 19/01/2015 13:40

God, I read them to my children (too old to have read them as a child myself) and even they were sick of Harry's throbbing scar and Dumbledore's frigging twinkling eyes by Book Four. I found them unbelievably repetitive - I can't understand the fuss. They might have been bearable if Rowling's editor had had the balls to cut the word count by 60%. The acting by the children in the films is somewhere south of appalling.

noitsbecky · 19/01/2015 13:47

There are tonnes of things I'd like to obliviate my mind for, in order to experience them again.

Imagine tasting your favourite food for the first time again!

Mammanat222 · 19/01/2015 13:51

Wish I could experience it all over again (I was mid 20's and quite late to the party as book 4 was out when I started reading. I did however get hooked I even timed seeing the 5th film to coincide with the release of the last book @ midnight and queued for over an hour for my copy

I also wrote a note to myself in the last book..... kind of a 'however this ends its been amazing. Magic isn't just for kids' ..... saddo that I am. Incidentally the only part of the books I hated was the very last chapter of book 7. Which I tore out.....
