to ask if anyone knows how I can stop needing to get up at 4am for a wee

Blush

I'm in my 50s, fit and in good health. But my sleep is disturbed every night by needing to get up for a wee. I don't drink alcohol or loads of caffeine.

AIBU to ask if anyone knows how I can stop this?

no idea but me too!

noitsbecky · 17/01/2015 22:26

No fluids after 9?

Middleagedmotheroftwo · 17/01/2015 22:26

Same, but 3.30am for me. Think it comes with age - I'm early 50s.
I've tried not drinking in the evening, but doesn't make any difference.

Tinkerball · 17/01/2015 22:27

I'm 44 and this is me to, in fact is usually twice a night!

FarFromAnyRoad · 17/01/2015 22:27

It's your age! You're not sleeping as deeply as you used to so the need to wee prods your consciousness more easily. Or you could try not drinking after 6pm but that didn't work for me - just made me bad tempered and pissy instead of just pissy!

Morgan · 17/01/2015 22:27

Me too and I don't drink fluids after nine. It drives me bonkers .

GreenPetal94 · 17/01/2015 22:28

are you overdrinking throughout the day, could you cut back?

Rivercam · 17/01/2015 22:29

Me also! Sometimes I stay up so I'm overtired, but this rarely works.

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 17/01/2015 22:29

Have you got any other problems.

Could it be a sign of diabetes.

cardibach · 17/01/2015 22:30

I am 50 and have phases of this. It is to constant though. I'm currently being plagued by a back which gets all a hey and stiff during the night. This too shall pass. Sorry if it's unhelpful...i wouldn't restrict fluids at all though.

KateBeckett · 17/01/2015 22:30

If its an age thing I'm screwed because it happens to me periodically for days on end and I'm in my twenties!!

Janethegirl · 17/01/2015 22:31

I'm as bad but if it's not 4am it's 5am. And it doesn't seem to matter where I'm sleeping cos at first I thought it might be a neighbours van moving or similar.

FarFromAnyRoad · 17/01/2015 22:31

Actually Piper may have a point. Since getting my blood sugar under control I now very rarely wake in the night to pee. Worth seeing your GP maybe?

TongueBiter · 17/01/2015 22:32

Do you do a "second wee" before you go to sleep? I wee, brush teeth etc, then read/mn for a bit. THEN ... the all important Second Wee before going to sleep.

Thesimplethings · 17/01/2015 22:35

Habit? I'm in my 30's and wake up after 3.5/4.5 hours sleep, go to bathroom, get a drink of water then spend the filling couple of hours clock watching.

Thesimplethings · 17/01/2015 22:36

Filling? Following Blush

redpriestandmozart · 17/01/2015 22:38

Try getting up 5 times, bloody hell my bladder must have shrunk to size of a tennis ball. I'm 50 too, some nights I'm on the bog more than I'm in bed!

RigglinJigglin · 17/01/2015 22:38

I've done this always, in my 30s now. I don't drink past 8pm if I want an interrupted night www wise.

It's ludicrous but sometimes I'd just prefer the sleep.

RigglinJigglin · 17/01/2015 22:39

Wee not www Confused

SnakeyMcBadass · 17/01/2015 22:41

I wee before bed. Wee just before I nod off. Then wee again at 4ish. My bladder is a bastard. I'm 36.

ssd · 17/01/2015 22:43

think its an age thing too

I dont do it all the time but its a bloody pain

SilverDragonfly1 · 17/01/2015 22:44

Thing is, if you drink less your urine (technical talk here!) is more concentrated and irritates the bladder. That makes you feel you need to go as well! I always wake up about 4... it's the time my son used to wake me up for a feed. He's just turned 21...

afreshstartplease · 17/01/2015 22:44

I'm 26 and I do this too Sad

mausmaus · 17/01/2015 22:44

do you drink enough during the day?
if I don't I'm thirsty in the evening and need to go in the night.
if I drink plenty thoughout the day that seems to help.
and yes to the second wee.

BoredChurch · 17/01/2015 22:45

I do the second wee thing as well Blush.
I go for a wee, then clean my teeth, then go for another wee. I really consentrate Grin
I don't wake at night unless it's a few days befor my period when I think hormones make me wee (?)
