JSA people should get bus passes and winter fuel allowances

just had to lend bil money for heating and travel as he's on JSA after loosing his job due to mental health issues and his savings have dried up after almost a year.

He thinks that many weeks he spends more on travel than JSA pay! Thank god he has a family who can help him, I feel very sorry for people that don't have someone to help out.

Jsa people should get a bloody job and stop being so entitled myself and oh do not get our fairs paid when going to job interviews or when going to the bank to collect our wage Hmm

heygoldfish · 15/01/2015 18:21

That'll go down well ...

expatinscotland · 15/01/2015 18:25

'I used to live 10 miles from the JC, I used to sign on by post. I don't know if they still do this?'

Nope, not up here.

'If you have to sign on it's what? Once a week? Once a fortnight? Bike. Years ago when we signed on, we cycled or walked - it was the other end of the city where we lived. But we had all day with nothing else to do, right? But work - my husband's job is about 20 miles away and he can't cycle it. (He could have when he was younger). '

Because everyone on JSA is young and able to cycle 20+ miles, which again, many rural areas are served by one job centre covering a geographical area that size or greater? Many have also been moved onto JSA from ESA and are disabled, or made redundant in their 50s or early 60s and not able to cycle or walk miles. Some have to sign on daily, others are on the Work Programme, working full-time for the £75/week.

'Jsa people should get a bloody job and stop being so entitled myself and oh do not get our fairs paid when going to job interviews or when going to the bank to collect our wage '

Um, that's what they are trying to do. 'Our' wage? We are min. wage workers, I am happy there is a support in place.

expatinscotland · 15/01/2015 18:30

FFS.

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 15/01/2015 18:31

I'd love some leg warmers.

formerbabe · 15/01/2015 18:33

myfallingstar If being on benefits is so great, then why haven't you given up work and signed on?

Are you seriously comparing ice cream and leg warmers with essential living costs?

Dawndonnaagain · 15/01/2015 18:44

myfalling
Do fuck off, there's a dear. I am pretty certain that you get some benefits, you certainly do not have a high powered, well paid job.

meglet · 15/01/2015 18:48

just to echo what morning said about 'the super rich and us', I think it's episode 2 tonight.

meglet · 15/01/2015 18:54

oh, and yanbu.

Dawndonnaagain · 15/01/2015 18:56

I don't get my rent paid *then aren't you in a lucky position, be grateful.

I don't get a bigger home if I have more children neither do most people, stop reading the Daily Fail

My son dosent get free meals at school (sic) again, aren't you lucky

I don't get free milk and veg for my baby even more lucky

I don't get a Merternity grant if I choose to have a baby (sic) some people don't have the choices that you do, again, aren't you lucky

I don't get a intrest free loan when my cooker blows up (sic) You're looking at the wrong stores then, aren't you.

I don't get my sons school trips paid Luckier by the minute

SoonToBeSix · 15/01/2015 18:58

Home alone the extra money for two dc, tax credits and CB is not £160 a week it is £139. Also you are missing the point children deserve to live at a higher income level than adults.

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 15/01/2015 19:02

Three months i've been on esa, i'm still not getting my rent paid either.
It takes that long to sort out.

homealone42 · 15/01/2015 19:04

Personally our family doesn't receive any benefits but I wouldn't swap with my sister on jsa. It is a complete pittance for a single person. She volunteers for 2 days perweek and has to proveshe is job searching daily. Not easy when you don't have a computer or smartphone and can't afford a dongle. So a 3 mile walk to the library it is. Want to swap myfalling o and you still have to £5pw counci.tax and £6 fares every 2 weeks.

merrychristmasyafilthyanimal · 15/01/2015 19:05

My town is in the middle of nowhere! It costs £5:80 to get to the nearest job centre. I would much rather jobseekers going to sign on/ attend an interview recieved a buss pass over people like my DGM who have very healthy bank balances, a massive property portfolio and a brand new car on the drive.

homealone42 · 15/01/2015 19:07

sorry meant 140.

HelenaDove · 15/01/2015 19:08

myfallingstar i could come on here and point out that you get Child Benefit when a childless person doesnt but i wouldnt because unlike you i dont think like that!

GraysAnalogy · 15/01/2015 19:12

Universal Credit offer to help with interview clothes and travel - that's being rolled out everywhere soon. Although only one advisor mentioned it to my brother.

Wantsunshine · 15/01/2015 19:13

HelenaDove a lot of people with children are not entitled to child benefit

SoonToBeSix · 15/01/2015 19:14

I do think JSA should be higher for single people homealone. However I also think there should be a significant rise for dc.

Dimplesandall · 15/01/2015 19:17

Yadnbu re travel. Less sure about winter fuel allowance. Sick of benefits system favouring the elderly regardless! Should be based on need alone, not propensity to vote
