To hate the phrase Wine O'Clock?

Just that really, makes my teeth itch. Why do I imagine a crowd of middling aged, middle class women sitting with their glasses of wine who would look down their noses at other women gaily gushing about how they can't wait to get the kids home from school for Buckie O'Clock or White Lightening O'Clock.

I fall way more into the former description and no doubt drink too much wine at times but I just hate the phrase and proud clamouring to be the one start wine o'clock earliest in the day.

usual beat me to it.

Bambambini · 13/01/2015 19:35

Yes, Buckfast - that's right. The Buckie gift hampers in the local corner shop this Christmas went down a storm.

I'm middle aged, middle class and love wine. But I find the phrase cringeful and very try hard.

Bambambini · 13/01/2015 19:46

Buckie gift hampers in Newton Mearns and Bearsden - Shock! You wouldn't find the likes in Clarkston!

Yes, very cringey phrase.

WhirlyTwirlySnowflakes · 13/01/2015 20:00

Bamba I was being a little bit naughty. Hmmm. Shawlands types consider themselves a bit too sophisticated... Cathcart?

WhirlyTwirlySnowflakes · 13/01/2015 20:01

MrsDeVere as ever you make an excellent point.

LineRunner · 13/01/2015 20:07

Buckie is artisanal thunderbird.

TiggyD · 13/01/2015 20:08

Middle class alcoholics are delightfully risque. Hence all the humorous gin comments aimed at that bunch of degenerate sots in MNHQ.

daisychain01 · 13/01/2015 20:13

Whirly that sounds Envy

MrsKoala what does that blue curucao taste like. I'm always a little shushpishious of strange coloured beverages hic

Spinaroo Grin

What I hate are the endless 'AIBU to hate this phrase...' Threads.

Would everyone just quit moaning!!

Please!

EXIT. I really don't get 'Dry January' THE single most miserable month on the calendar and people CHOOSE to make it worse?? Utter madness that way lies! I don't drink much these days, but the idea of enforced non drinking is enough to make me want a drink!

Wineoclockalready · 13/01/2015 20:14

I'm neither middle class nor middle age, but I am partial to the odd glass of Blue Nun or Matteus Rose Grin

Hemorrhoid cream will sort those itchy teeth op.

LineRunner · 13/01/2015 20:29

I have Bonjela.

It is now Bonjela o'clock.

Mintyy · 13/01/2015 20:32

I don't think anyone thinks its fine to be wankered on wine.

Wine in that context is just shorthand for booze, nothing more.

TiggyD · 13/01/2015 20:32

11 o'clock in nurseries is the Calpol hour. That's when all the Calpol that was given to sick children before they go to nursery wears off. Angry

Mintyy · 13/01/2015 20:34

The drink of the day that I just cannot function without is coffee.

If I miss out on coffee (has perhaps happened once or twice in the last year) then my whole day goes to pot.

Perhaps I'll start a "Coffee-o-clock" thread tomorrow at about 10.30am.

Wine is good for you WineWink

usualsuspect333 · 13/01/2015 20:45

I don't really like wine. I'm more likely to post about Vodka TBH.

Mintyy · 13/01/2015 20:47

It's just shorthand.

I don't for one minute agree that being drunk on wine is generally seen as more acceptable than being drunk on any other drink.

QuickSilverFairy · 13/01/2015 20:48

In my house it's always whine o'clock
