To hate the phrase Wine O'Clock?

Bambambini · 13/01/2015 18:56

Just that really, makes my teeth itch. Why do I imagine a crowd of middling aged, middle class women sitting with their glasses of wine who would look down their noses at other women gaily gushing about how they can't wait to get the kids home from school for Buckie O'Clock or White Lightening O'Clock.

I fall way more into the former description and no doubt drink too much wine at times but I just hate the phrase and proud clamouring to be the one start wine o'clock earliest in the day.

Friday, 6pm, I LOVE the phrase, "Wine O'clock!" WineWink (hic!)

usualsuspect333 · 13/01/2015 19:13

I didn't see the other thread.

SoupDragon · 13/01/2015 19:14

YANBU to dislike a phrase.
YABU to make stupid judgey comments about people who say it

MrMcGintysGoat · 13/01/2015 19:14

I just say it's time for 'mummy juice'.
What is Buckie?

Greywackejones · 13/01/2015 19:15

yet another op name to cross off the like list...

GlitzAndGigglesx · 13/01/2015 19:17

I like the phrase and used to use it and I'm neither middle aged nor middle class Grin. It's an expression like making your teeth itch which is also pretty cool

WhirlyTwirlySnowflakes · 13/01/2015 19:18

Well I'm middle aged and decidedly middle class and I dislike the phrase too. It always seems very little girlie to me. It always hints if that there might be squealing

daisychain01 · 13/01/2015 19:20

Yy to yard arm - fantastic and vay vay middle C

And I raise the first glass to my MC roots bollox sorry about that, dear heart.

MrsKoala · 13/01/2015 19:21

I think allocating an hour to your drink of choice is for amateurs. The real professionals reserve a whole day for it. Today is blue curacao Tuesday in our house.

Soupdragon Grin. Since when was it unreasonable on Mumsnet to make judgey comments!!!

daisychain01 · 13/01/2015 19:22

Isn't Bucky short for Bucks Fizz

\ hic/

ASAS · 13/01/2015 19:22

Oh man! Why can't you all work with me/be married to me (easily half of you are my RL friends incognito though). Actually feel like I love mumsnet at times.

Spinaroo · 13/01/2015 19:23

Buckie is buckfast fortified wine generally favoured by younger Scottish males and drunk from the bottle.

Fabulous46 · 13/01/2015 19:24

Buckie is Buckfast a fortified wine.

I have people that post it's wine o'clock on FB at 2.30pm. I never use the phrase and am middle class and middle aged. Whatever someone chooses to drink at whatever time never annoys me.

WhirlyTwirlySnowflakes · 13/01/2015 19:25

Bamba as at happens I was just like Grey thinking that this thread was a perfect chance to do some spreadsheet updating... although our spreadsheets may have ticks and crosses in rather different places. Grin

ExitPursuedByABear · 13/01/2015 19:25

Well you can all fuck off as I am doing Dry January.

Spinaroo · 13/01/2015 19:25

X post daisychain01 Grin-

WhirlyTwirlySnowflakes · 13/01/2015 19:27

Daisy Buckie is about as far away from Bucks Fizz as it is possible to be.

It is rather..., erm.., picquant though.

FightOrFlight · 13/01/2015 19:27

YABU

Perhaps we should call the time you posted this thread Whine O'Clock

FrancesNiadova · 13/01/2015 19:29

Whirlytwirlysnowflakes doesn't everybody squeal when they open the bottle? Blush

MrMcGintysGoat · 13/01/2015 19:29

Ohhh is that the one made by the monks from Buckfast Abbey? Could they be described as Artisans?
Surely that must be considered middle class.

BolshierAyraStark · 13/01/2015 19:32

YABU I rather like it, along with Gin o'clock.

WhirlyTwirlySnowflakes · 13/01/2015 19:33

Frances I never squeal.

Mr McGinty that's the one. It tastes like particularly nasty cough medicine.
