I don't get the hate this girl is getting. She's escaped from a country at war, came to the uk as a pennyless immigrant and built herself up to be a multi millionaire and one of the most successful British female artisits of all time (most no 1s) and works a lot in the fashion and pr world.

Some other mums were bitching about her, aibu to stick up for her?

That's because she's Titanium Grays.

Don't like the lyrics of Wild One TBF.

Rita's OK - she was a bit OTT about the firefighter (I was watching with DS & crringing) but I think she was nervous. I couldn't care less how many people's she's had sex with though, that's her business not anyone else's.

GraysAnalogy · 13/01/2015 14:40
Grin

DP didn't like Titanium because it annoyed him - titanium isn't bulletproof apparently.

GlitzAndGigglesx · 13/01/2015 14:47

Sia is amazing! Talented and has a background many can relate to. I love Chandelier and the story behind it

TheChandler · 13/01/2015 14:53

Rita Ora's publicity machine hard at work today I see!

Can I ask them, is it possible that Ms Ora could wear something else than stripper-porn-glam very occasionally, and lay off the fake-lesbian thing? She must be running out of female slebs to snog! And the Obama thing is just a bit too unbelievable to relate to her UK audience.

Perhaps though she will leave us behind to concentrate on the US Market? One can only hope...

BolshierAyraStark · 13/01/2015 14:53

Stick up for her by all means but correcting someone's opinion ? Just no.

I personally don't like her-no need for you to correct me on it though.

gingee · 13/01/2015 15:01

I love the chandelier video but the new one with Shia Leboeuf and the same little girl in a sheer leotard I find a bit cringy. Just because Shia Leboeuf is cringy IMO.

Rita Ora I find a bit bizarre in her wardrobe choices but hey ho. I can think of other people to be offended by - jessie j and her sudden change of sexuality was weird and perpetuated the 'bisexuality isn't real' school of thought, Eminem and his lyrics about wanting to rape Iggy Azalea, Calvin Harris worked with the truly vile Big Sean to release Calvin Harris ft Big Sean 'Open Wide' which included the lyrical delights 'a rubber is the only thing that ever came between us' and 'open that shit wide let me see how big your mouth is', Hmm
Also Meghan Trainor and her quite frankly stupid comments about eating disorders and making my 'bum-less' dd question her attractiveness.

Watched this on Vimeo about Rita Ora, it's an interview that I don't think got aired. I think she comes across very well and whilst she hardly has had a terribly difficult life, compared to some, I don't think she deserves the slut shaming she often gets.

My dds faves are Jessie Ware and Demi Lovato, wildly different but I am happy with them being her role models of sorts, amongst other business women, sports women and writers.

glasgowlass · 13/01/2015 15:04

ARE you her? You seem awfully over invested in her career & personal life.
I don't like her, don't like her voice, don't like her attitude. That's my perogative & if someone tried to "correct" my view I'd laugh in their face. We are all entitled to our own opinions.
Has Rita ever gotten over this epic twitter fail?www.buzzfeed.com/rachelzarrell/rita-ora-twitter-fail?s=mobile

gingee · 13/01/2015 15:07

Who was that directed at??

TheChandler · 13/01/2015 15:11

Good point Bolshier. I've often wondered what mumsnetters who actually come out with these terms say in real life. "Report" is another one.

"Hello Mrs. D, how are you today? I've come to correct you in your opinion of Rita Ora. In my opinion she is in fact not a theatrical school little madam with all the personality of a crocodile, but she is in fact a role model upon which I recommend you model little D's future upon".

ScotsWhaHae · 13/01/2015 16:11

It was horrendous watching her on the voice gushing over that guy, so embarrassing. Imagine if one of the guys went on like that over a woman?

glasgowlass · 13/01/2015 16:13

The OP gingee...

Inthedarkaboutfashion · 13/01/2015 16:42

As for Rihanna, Rita Ora and whoever else being seen as role models and people having certain expectations of them, Rihanna said something that stuck in my mind when the media slaughtered her for getting back with Chris brown after he abused her and the media accused her of failing to be a good role model and for not standing up against the abuse.
She said something along the lines of (can't remember the precise words): I don't want to be role model, I don't make music in order to be seen as a role model, I wish people didn't see me as a role model, what I want to do with my spare time and who I want to date is nobody's business but mine.

FightOrFlight · 13/01/2015 17:08

I love the chandelier video but the new one with Shia Leboeuf and the same little girl in a sheer leotard I find a bit cringy. Just because Shia Leboeuf is cringy IMO

I've just been watching that and felt a little bit uncomfortable but suspect it's for the same reasons, i.e. it's Shia LookAtMeLookAtMeeee! Leboeuf in it.

amispoilt · 13/01/2015 17:29

I don't even think Ri has ever "made" any music. She just turns up in the studio to sing tracks that someone else wrote and probably gets each album done by just a week in the studio.

Yes, very true amispoilt

StarsOfTrackAndField · 13/01/2015 18:37

I couldn't give two fucks about Rita Ora either way - but if someone took it upon themselves to set themselves asd the keeper of the uncontested truth on the matter of Rita Ora and 'correct' my view on her, then I would take umbrage at their arrogance.

She looks amazing, such a beauty

Reubs15 · 05/09/2015 21:43

A lot of women just don't like other women! I assume nobody on here or the other mums actually know her in person. Therefore we cannot possibly pass judgement.

FarFromAnyRoad · 05/09/2015 21:57

This is a zombie thread. I think it's a very good idea to start your own Rita Ora appreciation thread Kimbomc. We've not had one of those before. Be sure to add 'good role model' to the title line.
