I don't get the hate this girl is getting. She's escaped from a country at war, came to the uk as a pennyless immigrant and built herself up to be a multi millionaire and one of the most successful British female artisits of all time (most no 1s) and works a lot in the fashion and pr world.

Some other mums were bitching about her, aibu to stick up for her?

I clearly do know what I'm talking about as I said one of. I know she shares that with geri and Cheryl

You said most number 1s.

Btw she also went to a Catholic primary school followed by a theatre school that has fees of a couple of grand per term.

It's not the most deprived background as if she came here on her own,out of choice, and had to personally scrape the barrel slumming it to scrape a penny or two then accidentally being spotted, which is how you make it sound when you say SHE escaped a country at war, came here penniless and had to work her way up!!!

amispoilt · 13/01/2015 12:04

Well jointly she does. Won't be long until she has it for her own, Gerri and Cheryl have very little musical ability.

Anyway I wanted to correct the mums who said she fucked her way to the top. Unless they actually know her then its just tales.

The way you put your op saying SHE escaped a country at war, came as a penniless immigrant and built herself up makes it sound as if she was old enough with a choice in the matter, had to scrape the barrel herself and didn't have what she did have.

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 13/01/2015 12:05

Apologies for second post. First one disappeared so wrote again

SnoringMonkeys · 13/01/2015 12:08

Is she better or worse than Kym marsh?

JohnFarleysRuskin · 13/01/2015 12:09

I don't know her but I thought she was ok on the Voice until she started gushing over the looks of the young boy and the fireman. I found that awkward and would have found it awkward if the men behaved like that towards contestants. It was over the top.

amispoilt · 13/01/2015 12:11

Kym marsh is awful, she's renting a house to her parents who claim housing benefit for it. Rita is not taking tax payers money! I wouldn't be surprised if Rita doesnt even avoid tax.

OttiliaVonBCup · 13/01/2015 12:14

Are you her mum OP?

Tell her to stop being so cringeworthy and desperate in the way she dresses and leers and hopefully she'll listen to you.

Hoppinggreen · 13/01/2015 12:16

I didn't have any feelings about her either way by the way she behaved with that Fireman on Sunday Night while his girlfriend was watching was pretty disgusting.
If Tom Jones had done that to a female contestant there would have been outrage

HellKitty · 13/01/2015 12:17

She was on a show live, possibly X-Factor, walking around and singing. It was dire. Flat and tone deaf. I judged her on that performance, I'd previously tapped my ancient foot along to her songs and who she shags doesn't affect me - although I may quietly judge.

Inthedarkaboutfashion · 13/01/2015 12:19

I like rita ora.
I like the fact that she wears what the hell she wants.
I like the fact that I haven't heard her respond to criticism in the media.
I don't know anything. About her fucking Jay Z and if people are going to make those kind of accusations they should provide some reasonable evidence.

Her parents came here from an unsettled country and worked hard to provide her with the best opportunities that they could. Rota herself hasn't escaped any bad background or had to struggle, but her parents have made sacrifices.

There are worse people out there who deserve criticism.

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 13/01/2015 12:24

I think you can disagree with them.
I don't think you can correct them...

specialsubject · 13/01/2015 12:26

just played a youtube video of one of her 'songs' in the interest of research. Usual one-note reality show pub singer, with a boring tap-tap-tap song. And that will be after the processing of her voice.

no idea on her personal life, but can't see any discernible talent there.

Mammanat222 · 13/01/2015 12:30

She's not what I would consider role model material.

I don't read the gossip sites but even I've heard the rumours about her sexual activities. Rumours of course aren't the gospel truth BUT rumours usually have some level of truth to them.

TheChandler · 13/01/2015 12:31

It was her parents who escaped a country at war surely? As a baby, she wouldn't have had much say in it and she herself has had the benefit of a UK upbringing and education. She seems a typical theatre school type product to me - very confident, rather brash, appeals to men as a young woman often does and makes sure she is in the right places at the right time.

She isn't a very dedicated "artiste" - she hasn't released any records for a long time (critics would say that she only releases when her record company manages circumstances for her to get a brief No1).

Apparently a lot of her "success" is due to networking (and more) with the right people - famous and record company and marketing types.

She also has the most awful weave type thing on her hairline - is her hair totally false all the way from the roots? In some photos you can literally see this line of something.

So as a role model, maybe someone less brash, less "shaggy", a little bit more substance and a slightly nicer manner? An old fashioned way of describing it would be "grace". Or something.

amispoilt · 13/01/2015 12:36

She hasn't released any material as her ex owns the rights to most of it and he's, selfishly banned her. She can't even perform her last single anywhere as he's banned it!

OP posts:
TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 13/01/2015 12:39

Why does her ex own the rights?

TheChandler · 13/01/2015 12:39

You mean her ex, the world famous star Calvin Harris (one of the men whose coattails she rode on for a while), has the talent surely?

GraysAnalogy · 13/01/2015 12:40

needabum sorry didn't know revealing a bit of cleavage makes you a bad person.

People don't mind the flash of breast when breast feeding (or are being told they shouldn't mind) but god forbid a woman wears a top that reveals side boob or cleavage.

PrincessOfChina · 13/01/2015 12:43

I like the fact that Calvin Harris stopped her releasing her latest album by withdrawing all his tracks after she (allegedly) cheated on him.

amispoilt · 13/01/2015 12:46

Don't think he's that tallented, all of his songs follow the same predictable pattern. Panders to the masses with low quality. At least all of Rita's singles have been very different.

She's showbiz friends with Madonna and the Obamas, I doubt she fucked either of them!

OP posts:
GlitzAndGigglesx · 13/01/2015 12:49

She was trying to speak to us like crap in my last workplace and was very demanding. I've never thought too much of her tbh

Lj8893 · 13/01/2015 12:53

Op, do you have a personal connection to her? Or are her? As you seem very very clued up on her life and biased. (i like her but im not quite as passionate about her as you are)

Kneedeepinshittynappies · 13/01/2015 12:54

So you don't think she might have done something herself to make her ex block her from performing HIS music?

I don't have a huge opinion on her tbh, although I don't think she's as big a deal as she thinks she is. Must go tell people that this must be their opinion from now on too Hmm
