In thinking Birmingham needs some help with tourist promotion (Fox News)

If you've not seen it,

Apparently, Birmingham is a Muslin only city and off limits to non-Muslims and in London "Muslim religious police" beat "anyone who doesn't dress according to Muslim, religious Muslim attire".

So aside from the disturbing implications of Fox News interviewing this guy (who has been a witness for a Congressional committee) and this guy clearly believing what he was saying. I think we need to set the record straight about multiculturalism, Birmingham and dickheadedness in general.

There are some cracking examples on Twitter with #FoxNewsFacts hash tag for anyone who is need of a good laugh on a horrible wet and windy Monday morning.

Either I'm Muslim and didn't know, or I'm not in Birmingham and didn't realise I had moved.

Britbird · 12/01/2015 11:11

I don't understand his apology though. He must have known he was talking rubbish as he said it. He couldn't possibly have believed that it was true, or could he?

Idontseeanysontarans · 12/01/2015 11:18

It seems to have gone countrywide - Halalifax anyone?

stickingpoint2 · 12/01/2015 11:20

I have pictures of my nonmuslim self wearing western attire at famous Birmingham landmarks. Maybe I should send them in?

ghostyslovesheep · 12/01/2015 11:20

also no Muslims are allowed to support West Haram

Steven Emerson is an American journalist, author, and pundit on national security, terrorism, and Islamic extremism.

Emerson is the author of six books, and co-author of two more. His television documentary Jihad in America won the 1994 George Polk Award for best Television Documentary, and top prize for best investigative reporting from Investigative Reporters and Editors. He is also the Executive Director of the Investigative Project on Terrorism (IPT), a data-gathering center on Islamist groups.

Despite being widely criticized for his inaccuracies and for fomenting Islamophobia, Emerson frequently testifies before Congressional committees on al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations.

You have to also note the fact that before he apologised he tweeted

@londonfeminist Perhaps you don't read @DailyMail or @Guardian regarding Muslims vigilantes enforcing shariah www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2519519/Muslim-Patrol-jailed-harassing-couple-holding-hands-men-drinking-bid-enforce-Sharia-law-East-London.html

to which someone replied

@TheIPT @londonfeminist @DailyMail @guardian a bit of a stretch to label a couple of vigilante bellends as "religious police"

So that appears to be the level of his investigation skills

Its like Matthew Wright giving evidence to a Commons Select Committee on tackling terrorism.

I once read the results of a survey on people's knowledge of current affairs. People who claimed not to watch/ read news knew more about events than those who got their knowledge from Fox news.

stickingpoint2 · 12/01/2015 11:27

The weather one has won the internet today for me.

ReallyTired · 12/01/2015 11:31

RedToothBrush I love your posts.

I agree that this gentleman should be invited to Birmingham. I expect he has never been to the UK.

PrincessOfChina · 12/01/2015 11:59

I used to be a journalist. The biggest worry for me was the dimwit anchor who actually looked like she believed him and didn't offer any challenge.

PuffinsAreFictitious · 12/01/2015 12:03

Fox News really has to be seen to be believed. It's the Daily Mail of broadcasters.

The #foxnewsfacts hashtag was hilarious, and the idiot Steven's apology was fullsome.

I suspect that one of Murdoch's lackeys collated the misinformation and he just spewed it forth, without checking the source. Interestingly, the things he suggested are pretty much the same as those spouted by Yaxley-Lennon and the Britain First lot.

Not that I'd suggest that Fox News is getting their info from far-right knuckle draggers.

My favourite tweet so far is 'Islamic head coverings now prevalent across Britain' - with this pic... Grin

Brummiegirl15 · 12/01/2015 12:15

The irony is that the New York Times listed Birmingham as one of the top 10 cities to visit in 2015.

I agree, Fox News have a responsibility to ensure their "experts" know what they are talking about. He backtracked pretty damn quickly - so makes you wonder where on earth he got his facts from.

LisaK13 · 12/01/2015 12:36

Hahah I saw this and just let it fly over my head think he couldn't possibly mean 'our' Birmingham and assumed he meant some random place in America ??

AlorsMeh · 12/01/2015 12:40

I don't think it was possible to tell what the female anchor was thinking. Her face was pretty static. Only her eyes appeared to show alarm but I could place that as either alarm that he was talking such shit or alarm because she thought he spoke the truth.

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 12/01/2015 12:48

I suspect that an important part of the job description as a Fox News presenter is being able to listen to an incredible amount of crap while nodding encouragingly, and suppressing the urge to yell, 'ABSOLUTE BOLLOCKS!'

squoosh · 12/01/2015 12:49

I bet none of them want to scream 'absolute bollocks', they're all indoctrinated into the right wing ways.

squoosh · 12/01/2015 12:52

After the recent AirAsia crash one of their presenters suggested that the reason for the crash is because the pilots used metric, rather than imperial, measurement systems .

'It’s kilometres or miles. You know, everything about their training could be similar, but different.'

'So it’s not just differences in the way that we measure things, it is a difference in the way that our pilots are actually trained, is it not as safe in that part of the world?'

InanimateCarbonRod · 12/01/2015 12:56

The plane crashed because of the metric system?! I've actually heard it all now! Grin

ouryve · 12/01/2015 12:57

The female presenter's face is priceless.

sashh · 12/01/2015 12:58

What about Ireland should use pounds because Scotland does?

sashh · 12/01/2015 13:01

Oh, my mistake, not Fox News - but the guy should go over to Fox

SoleSource · 12/01/2015 13:05

Bullshit. Never happening.

RedToothBrush · 12/01/2015 13:14

sashh that's brilliant.

I think we take it for granted that the majority of our news readers have very good general knowledge in the UK.
