I hope know that there's no chance of it happening here but I still find myself panicking when I get an itch Shock is it just me?!

Hatespiders, I read your thread and far from being upset, I was full of admiration for you and your husband's bravery and good humour in the face of a very nasty and potentially dangerous parasite.

And I will never complain about our NHS again.

splodgeses · 09/01/2015 19:56

Thanks MrsCakes

Hatespiders - Your thread is the exemplar of all that is wonderful about Mumsnet.

And what your DH has gone through with his sibling's deaths made me feel so grateful for what we have here.

May you & yours & all the hatespiders family flourish for evermore.

Hatespiders · 09/01/2015 21:36

Thank you for your reassurance and kind comments.

I do realise that not everyone wants to read about nasties, bugs and maggots etc. Grin but a tourist having a look around Africa's wonderful places should be fine if all precautions are taken, as recommended by the travel advice services. My dh got this tumbu maggot when he was far into the bush in Northern Cote d'Ivoire, near the border with Mali. It's 24hrs in a ricketty bus from Abidjan; the village is near Tengrila, and I doubt if any of us would go there for any reason! (I've never been) Same regarding Senegal; I was travelling far into the hinterland of Casamance, and it isn't somewhere a tourist is likely to venture.

Now, if you're talking about British spiders.... aaaaaaaagh!!!!

toldmywrath · 09/01/2015 21:43

AlorsMeh -guffaw at your typo PUSS PORN (nothing wrong with that is there? Pus porn on the other hand...)
I thought this a very strange question,as I automatically assumed the OP was talking about Billy Goats.

AmarettoSour · 09/01/2015 23:13

Hatespiders my op was meant to be tongue in cheek, I'm sorry if I made you feel bad Flowers

I loved the story of billy but must admit the thought of it made my toes curl! My paranoia imagination has not been helped by DP telling me that a friend of his DM cut her tongue licking an envelope and a few weeks later baby spiders hatched from her tongue Hmm told him I think that one may be an urban legend!

I liked the thread too hatespiders and while not exactly a sporner am weirdly fascinated by all those images.

But I do think these things need a warning for the trypophobics amongst us!!

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 09/01/2015 23:23

Screwballscrambled · 09/01/2015 23:30

Hatespiders noone really thinks they will get a billy.

Your thread was interesting and well written it was also very humerus (I did feel sorry for your dh though)

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 09/01/2015 23:34

I knew exactly which billy you were referring to Grin

hiddenhome · 09/01/2015 23:58

I collect invertebrates, so I find the prospect of having a Billy strangely appealing Confused

PicaK · 10/01/2015 10:48

Hatespiders. I was tongue in cheek too. I've felt humbled by your Dh's life story and incredibly warmly proud of our NHS. It deserves to be in classics. Hope your dh not in too much pain.
