To be worried about the Ched Evans threads on here

Sorry but this does seem like a witchunt to me. Many of the posters (who have signed the petition) obviously have little knowledge of the case. At one point a poster said Sports Direct would withdraw sponsorship if Evans was NOT signed and immediately others were vowing to boycott. Laughable and shows the level of thought before clicking. Online justice and the court of public opinion, not for me. As for expecting football, an industry corrupt from the very top (Sepp Blatter) and inherently sexist, to show any moral stance, get real.

As is this article by Henry Winters www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/oldham-athletic/11334487/Ched-Evans-mob-rule-card-is-a-cheap-trick-by-an-unrepentant-rapist.html from which the following paragraph is taken:

"Try daring to include in that “mob rule” category the Greater Manchester Police and Crime Commissioner, Tony Lloyd, who surely spoke for the moral majority when he said: “All offenders have the right to rebuild their lives and make amends after they have served their sentence. But Ched Evans’s lack of remorse and failure to acknowledge his offence means it is simply inappropriate for him to be on a Greater Manchester football pitch week in and week out presenting himself as some kind of role model, especially to young people.” That is not the spittle-flecked outpouring of the mob; that is a considered appraisal from a professional crime-fighter with close-up experience of the grim tensions of modern life"

I especially appreciate that the Telegraph article is in the Sports section.

TheCowThatLaughs · 09/01/2015 12:19

Is anyone else unable to read anything on The Independent website because it keeps flicking over to a diet website? Angry

TheCowThatLaughs · 09/01/2015 12:20

I mean to read some of the links on this thread of course

Pagwatch · 09/01/2015 12:32

That's great. I like Henry Winter. His coverage of the Paralympics is brilliant.

Pagwatch · 09/01/2015 12:33

Nope TheCowThatLaughs - that's not happening for me.

TheCowThatLaughs · 09/01/2015 12:36

It's stopped now pagwatch thankfully. Good article, thanks

TheCowThatLaughs · 09/01/2015 12:37

He really is not willing to take any responsibility for what he did with his own penis is he?

Pagwatch · 09/01/2015 12:41

Oh good, I didn't want to post a dodgy link.

WeirdCatLady · 09/01/2015 12:49

I keep getting redirected to crappy sites too, not just on this thread.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 09/01/2015 15:38

The Telegraph has really gone up in my estimation over this, some good reporting going on.

I'm very disappointed in what Steve Bruce has said about CE this afternoon. I've always been a fan of his, but he's obviously just another idiot. Angry

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 09/01/2015 16:33

Random I just went to look, what a stupid stupid man he is.

Bruce added: “I’m a big believer that if you have done your time everyone deserves a second chance, we have seen footballers involved with accidents and being given a second chance.

'Accidents'?? So he slipped and fell and his cock landed in his victim?

Angry
Blistory · 09/01/2015 16:42

He's not the only one. Telegraph is also reporting that one of Vince Cable's aides has tweeted something about CE probably not being guilty.

So it appears that if a man accused of rape is found not guilty by a jury, that's evidence of the court system working but if he is found guilty, it's evidence that the court system isn't working.

It was so heartening to see so many men and women speaking out about CE and how unacceptable his behaviour was and now we're seeing the backlash to that.

PetulaGordino · 09/01/2015 16:47

Whenever I hear men minimising or justifying what CE did, or denying outright that it was rape, all I can hear is them saying "in the same situation, chances are I would have done the same thing" Sad

Icimoi · 09/01/2015 17:21

Vince Cable's idiot aide has deleted his tweet and Cable is busy trying to brush it under the carpet -

"A spokeswoman for Vince Cable said: "The member of staff regrets his actions and has apologised. We now consider the matter closed."

If anyone would like to ask Cable why a government minister is still employing an idiot like this who doesn't seem to care about the rule of law and due respect for the justice system, try [email protected]

rootypig · 09/01/2015 17:43

Toad yes I agree. And it would have been so refreshing, and this all would have played so differently, if he had. But he has no understanding of the law, nor do the people who are advising him. Let alone any grasp of the abhorrence of what he did, whether illegal or not.

rootypig · 09/01/2015 17:47

Agree with pp who said this issue has been a good litmus test for people's views. On MN, and elsewhere. Steve Bruce has always been thick as two short planks, no surprises there, and I don't expect much more from Vince Cable either.

RandomNPC · 09/01/2015 17:51

Isn't Vince the brain box that sold the Royal Mail for a couple of quid and a few magic beans? His aide is obviously as stupid as he is.

merrymouse · 09/01/2015 18:17

Isn't the aide a civil service employee rather than somebody managed by cable? Either way it was a stupid thing for a civil servant to tweet.

merrymouse · 09/01/2015 18:25

[]www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/oldham-athletic/11333205/Ched-Evans-affair-shamed-football-myopic-PFA-mute-FA-and-idiotic-clubs-all-disgraced-themselves.html]]

This is commentary on the lack of leadership from football - vc's aide could have done himself a favour by reading it - particularly the bit about waiting for the legal process to be completed - I suspect he is in quite a bit of hot water.

ilovesooty · 09/01/2015 18:41

Great article.
