To be worried about the Ched Evans threads on here

Sorry but this does seem like a witchunt to me. Many of the posters (who have signed the petition) obviously have little knowledge of the case. At one point a poster said Sports Direct would withdraw sponsorship if Evans was NOT signed and immediately others were vowing to boycott. Laughable and shows the level of thought before clicking. Online justice and the court of public opinion, not for me. As for expecting football, an industry corrupt from the very top (Sepp Blatter) and inherently sexist, to show any moral stance, get real.

Oh god yeah people should just ignore bad shit that goes on instead of doing something about it. Its hardly a witch hunt

Toizzy · 08/01/2015 06:38

You may not agree with the threads but how strange to actually go to the trouble of creating a thread to defend a rapist.

MyGastIsTinselled · 08/01/2015 06:39

The guy's a fucking rapist...if it's a witch hunt then bring it on.

Bowlersarm · 08/01/2015 06:39

I hide the threads. They always get a bit hysterical.

ilovesooty · 08/01/2015 06:39

You could have made your (in my opinion misguided) point on one of the current threads.

Oh and have my very first Biscuit

ithoughtofitfirst · 08/01/2015 06:41

I don't know OP.

corkysgran · 08/01/2015 06:45

How am I defending him?

VikingVolva · 08/01/2015 06:51

There is indeed a witch-hunt.

But I am hoping that the AG will order the website he has confirmed he is investigating yo be taken down. And that might give many of the 'supporters' pause for thought.

Ordinary consumer action eg comment and petitioning is not a witch hunt, though it seems there are those who want to portray it as such.

I can only assume that they don't really not everyone has a short sound-bite approach, and that something wrong remains wrong even though a few months have passed. And if doesn't matter how often an attempt is made, it's still wrong.

There have been a few other straw arguments around too.

fuctifino · 08/01/2015 06:52

I am glad mob rule hasn't triumphed, there is no place for vigilantism.

It will be interesting to see how the home fans treat him and even more so the away ones who he will face week after week. I think it will make uncomfortable viewing.

OpiesOldLady · 08/01/2015 06:54

'Online justice and the court of public opinion, not for me'

In that case STFU and let people who actually care about the inherent wrongness of anyone signing an unrepentant, corrupt rapist, to be put in a position where people, especially young an impressionable children are likely to put him on a pedestal, discuss it like the adults that we are.

teawamutu · 08/01/2015 06:56

A witch hunt? To echo a PP, he's an unrepentent RAPIST. He ruined a young girl's life for kicks and his pathetic, subhuman supporters have hounded her out of her home and even her name.

But you think that expressing the opinion that he shouldn't have a lucrative job as a footballer, is somehow a witch hunt?

V interesting priorities you have there, if I may say so.

There was a wonderful open letter from an Oldham supporter, saying he didn't want his sons wearing the same shirt, and cheering for the team of a rapist. Sums it up, IMO.

JohnFarleysRuskin · 08/01/2015 06:56

So your attitude is that football is morally corrupt and sexist - but that anyone who dislikes that is on a witch hunt?!?!

Perhaps it is you who has very little knowledge.

ApocalypseThen · 08/01/2015 07:00

I am glad mob rule hasn't triumphed, there is no place for vigilantism.

No indeed. The victim has only had to change her identity a meagre five times.

In the end, this is not an industry that cares about women. Soccer cares about money and macho pride. This is the only protest tool women have in a world where no one listens if you keep spending.

fuctifino · 08/01/2015 07:00

Did mn wage a similar battle against OwenOyston?

Now he truly is an odious man who still is involved in football.

26Point2Miles · 08/01/2015 07:01

op. Most of mumsnet wouldn't bother if he weren't a footballer! Football has never been popular here. If he had a different occupation then it wouldn't pass the radar

Plenty of rapists who have been released go 'back to work' ... Where's the petition for them?

ilovesooty · 08/01/2015 07:03

They have every right to go back to work. Just not in a high profile role where they have the capacity to influence young people.

MyGastIsTinselled · 08/01/2015 07:04

They have a right to earn a living, just not one where they could be held up as a role model to young children/teenagers.

maddy68 · 08/01/2015 07:06

In all fairness the conviction Is being appealed. There wouldn't be an appeal without new evidence. And the 'evidence' at the first trial was questionable at best if you read it. As for him being unrepentant if you didn't do it why would you be remorseful?

Rape is unforgivable but so is a false allergation.

ApocalypseThen · 08/01/2015 07:08

The victim wasn't the alligator (to use a well worn joke). He was charged based on his own account if the events if the night, the stupid eejit.

CaptainHolt · 08/01/2015 07:08

Plenty of rapists who have been released go 'back to work' ... Where's the petition for them?

Thats already covered by existing legislation and the professional bodies in other industries. Most industries don't need a petition because it's a no brainer. When, for example, Vanessa George gets released, she won't be able to get another job with children or vulnerable people because the legislation already exists, so no petition needed.

GratefulHead · 08/01/2015 07:08

YABU OP, this man is still on licence, she has never accepted his guilt, his victim has now had to change identities five times as his "supporters" keep outing her. Where are his comments condemning this? Where is his knowledge or acceptance that he messed up big time, where has he shown that he has made ANY effort to address his offending behaviour?

In the meantime the only weapon for what it's worth is an online petition or two.

You are right in one thing though, football is inherently sexist right from the top down. So glad my son is not a child who followers or idolises footballers.

Bremusa · 08/01/2015 07:09

I don't worry at all about the threads about the rapist Ched Evans. I save my worry for the woman he raped and whose life he ruined. I do have this hope that she is out there somewhere reading these threads, getting some comfort from the amount of support there is for her here.

saoirse31 · 08/01/2015 07:09

I do think there's an element of snobbish ness here- because it's soccer. re Evans himself, I think yes it is a witch hunt. It may be a right and reasonable one, but it it's a witch hunt.

26Point2Miles · 08/01/2015 07:09

Oh really maddy.? Didn't know that! That's interesting then

It's not the 'biggest' team out there! Hardly a role model
