To Be A Bit Shocked By This?

I was in town earlier today and coming home on the bus a young woman and her daughter aged approx 5/6 sat behind me. The little girl started innocently enough, singing Frozen songs but then the mother started discussing her family, asking her daughter "What's Uncle xxxx?" The wee girl shouted out "A BELL END" very loudly. I thought it was just a typical innocent child's way of saying the wrong thing, but the mother thought it hysterical and started asking her daughter over and over.

So this wee girl was shouting out "Uncle xxxx's A BELL END" for the rest of the journey.

I know that kids do say things, but AIBU to be quite shocked at the mother getting her to repeat it again and again?

I was on a bus once where a mother and her friends were trying to teach a boy of about two to say "daddy's a wanker" complete with hand gesture!

I was on a train once with a family saying to a wee girl of about 3...

You're a little bitch, aren't you? Go on, say you're a little bitch..

Until the poor child said it. Apparently she was a little bitch for refusing to go to sleep (late, long distance train, but the kid was understandably excited)

So no, not shocked. Sad.

God that's vile, I can't stand hearing children swear. They get it from idiots like these that find it funny.

It is shocking.
I had to face the hell that is soft play today with one of my mindee's. Two children decided that pelting balls at her head from 2 ft away was funny. I quite sternly told them to stop, it's not nice to pick on children especially younger ones and if they can't play nicely then they ought to go and sit down. I had the Mum come and find me shortly after for 'having a go' at her kids. She got quite short shrift too.

That's terrible but I would have been stifling laughter at "A BELL END" I think. It's a bit of a comedy swear

Years ago I worked in as bank. Grandma came in to make a transaction and mum and dad were at the other end of the banking hall, diagonally opposite. Dd would be 18 months - 2 years at a guess. Granny shouted out Dgd name in a sing song way. Child looked at granny with a sullen face and flipped granny the bird albeit with the wrong finger (bless her she tried! And no, I didn't think a child of that age could look sullen until I saw her!). Granny's response? 'Oh, you're a little bastard, aren't you?' Whilst laughing.

I just kept smiling inanely whilst I heard pens and jaws drop........

The Cow, really, you think teaching a young child to call a relative a bell end is funny? Wow, can't find any humour in at all. I just find it depressing.

I know OP, TBH I was being very judgypants about the whole group because prior to the daddy's a wanker thing one of them had been asking another one when she was going to get her daughter's ears pierced, the daughter was a tiny, new born baby.

I agree with Jazzhands, I hate to hear children swearing, I don't much like anyone swearing, tbh, and I don't think there is such a thing as "Comedy Swearing"

It's either swearing, or it isn't.

I'm not one to worry too much about what other people do with regards to ear piercing, Tyke, and I don't want this thread to turn into a debate about it, but piercing a tiny baby's ears!

No I don't think a young child swearing is funny at all, just the idea of a little voice piping up "a bell end"
It just seems a bizarre choice of insult and It made me laugh
Obviously it doesn't bode well at all for the child's future that it's being taught this kind of thing

And I'm not anti children's ear piercing, but this was literally a new born, smaller then I think than my DD was at birth.

Our house is near a T-junction. One day, I pulled to an almost stop at the junction (going especially slowly as there were small children playing out). A 6yo girl made eye contact with me, sneered and stuck her finger up at me.
She seemed perpetually amazed that I wouldn't let her take 3yo DD out to play - unpleasant little madam.

I'm sorry if my post came across as snippy, I didn't mean it like that at all. I only meant that I hope other people don't try and turn into an ear piercing argument, I've seen that happen before when I've said something and some on this forum have piled in on me

I remember my childminder used to tell me, "It's not dog dirt, it's dog shit." Fortunately my parents had raised me never to swear (I used to go all red at that bit in Dirty Dancing where she says "I'm doing all of this to save your ASS!!") so I never repeated it.
Now I swear like a fucking sailor, as is my god given right as a grown up lady woman. Children should never be taught to swear.

It's vile.
IMO, there is such a thing as a comedy swear (ie small child drops an item and says 'rollocks'), but encouraging children to swear is awful.

My DS has come home from school today mimicking smoking and asking me if I want a fag. He's only in reception. Nobody in the household or immediate family smoke so god knows where he's had it from. I'm very anti-smoking so felt annoyed, if he'd called me a bell end I'd have been furious. I don't think it's funny at all. It's sad.

Some swearing is very funny.

Like when a small child is clearly echoing something a parent doesn't want them to hear.

I've seen a little girl doing knitting/sticking on her own and getting frustrated and muttering "oh just for fucks sake will you just DO it".

I do find accidental swearing by small children funny (ie friends dd telling me she was watching a movie with 'cock porn' - she meant popcorn) but deliberately teaching a child to swear is vile and very sad :(

It's not 'swearing', as such, is it, if the phrase the child is being 'taught' is 'bell end'? For me, the issue is more that it's unpleasant to teach an innocent small child that aggressively insulting a family member is not just acceptable but actually funny, and garners the child praise and attention, perhaps far more than - I don't know - drawing a picture or sharing or making efforts with toilet training.

These mothers who take umbrage at anyone daring to ask their little darlings to stop their bad behaviour. Well if you weren't such a crap parent it wouldn't be necessary. As long as they're not bothering them it's quite all right to upset anyone who's unlucky enough to be in their vicinity. Why should other people have to put up with their behaviour, makes me sick.
