Can you tell the difference between this and a "normal" sore throat?
Got ill last night, my ears were killing me, they got worse as the evening progressed to the point I had to go home from the meal we were at.
Woken today and they're still bad but also I have a sore throat.
Lemsip is helping but it's not going away.
When I was a child I had numerous bouts of tonsilitis and this reminds me of them due to the inflammation and mucus But I'm 35 and haven't had it since I was 15 so I don't know whether I'm overreacting.
Main reason is I'm a teacher and need to go to work on Tuesday so if I need anti bs I must must get myself to the Dr tomorrow rather than risk another day suffering.
So can you tell the difference?!

I have needed antibiotics for a sore throat once as an adult. There's a big difference between a viral sore throat and the one I needed antibiotics for. I felt dreadfully ill and the pain was truly awful. I could barely get out of bed to get to the GP. I took over a week to get to that state.

The antibiotics were bang on and were working well within 24 hours but it took me quite a while to fully recover.

I know some people say that sore throats always resolve themselves within 7 days or so but my GP was very clear that my infection wasn't going to get better by itself and I had to go back the next day to make sure the antibiotics were working. I think that pre-antibiotics I could have been in trouble.

I had full blown tonsillitis on my wedding day- 3rd day of it was wedding day & at its worst, couldnt eat, drink or swallow on the day- i got up and collapsed as was so ill, oh yeah and I was also 22 wks PG!

Had sore throats etc since of course, & Ive just got over the winter flu /heavy cold thing thats been going around, but never had tonsiliits as bad as then!
Big difference between sore throat/husky voice & tonsillitis!

You can't tell whether it's tonsillitis or something else online - you need examining.

Most sore throats are self-limiting but if you are feverish, have swollen glands in your neck and are finding it difficult to swallow fluids then see your GP or nurse practitioner.

Off to dr. Had to get my son looked after all day and just getting dressed has been exhausting. II barely slept last night but then did all morning.
Sure it's just one of those things going round.

I had tonsillitis for the first time a few weeks ago and was in agony. The pain is different to that of an ordinary sore throat and I actually had time off work with it which is something I never do. I would urge anyone who suspects they have tonsillitis to see their GP and get checked and not to leave it to linger on like I did. I ended up having to take two lots of antibiotics and being incredibly ill for weeks.

You are right to get yourself checked out. I have a headcold with sore throat and god awful earache at the moment, but It is just a sore throat. Tonsillitis is much, much worse.

I last had tonsillitis in August, that was hell on earth. I had to spit my saliva as I felt like I was swallowing razor blades. I struggled to even open my mouth for the doctor, couldn't eat or drink anything even talking was painful. My throat was covered in white puss. I had a temperature through the roof and my whole body ached. It took me a week or two to recover and really knocked me for six.
Didn't help that I had a reaction to the antibiotics which made me throw up and suffer from severe nausea. Vomiting and tonsillitis do not go together!!!!
