Let down over Christmas plans

My Mum and Dad flew to Dubai to see my older brother for Christmas so it was agreed that we would have our Christmas at New Year when they returned. Only they changed their plans.

They decided that they enjoyed the sun so much that they would stay on for an extra ten days so my Christmas didn't happen. They cannot understand why I am upset and cross with them.

Do you have a dp or kids op?

scarletforya · 04/01/2015 11:15

What age are you Op?

leanmachine · 04/01/2015 11:16

No, I live with my Mum and Dad so was "home alone"!

esiotrot2015 · 04/01/2015 11:16

can't you just be happy for them?

esiotrot2015 · 04/01/2015 11:16

how old are you?

dexter73 · 04/01/2015 11:17

Reserving opinion until more information!

Hoppinggreen · 04/01/2015 11:18

Well I'm assuming you are a grown up if you were old enough to be left alone.
How often do they see your brother? Maybe they wanted to spend time with him.
YABU

leanmachine · 04/01/2015 11:18

I'm 22, "big brother" is 23 and is out in Dubai for 4 months, Nov to the end of February.

Unless you are quite young then I guess you have to accept that they are living their own life and probably expect you to be able to get on without them.

scarletforya · 04/01/2015 11:19

Ah, you're a grown up. Couldn't you have went with them?

CheeseBuster · 04/01/2015 11:20

YABU.

petitdonkey · 04/01/2015 11:20

Well I might be the only one to think so but I think it's shitty. At 22 I would've wanted to do something with my family for Christmas - friends of that age generally have plans with their own families. Were you on your own on Christmas Day OP?

HedgehogsDontBite · 04/01/2015 11:21

I don't think YABU. My daughter is the same age as you and I wouldn't dream of leaving her alone for Christmas. Would be very different if she chose to be somewhere else.

MinceSpy · 04/01/2015 11:21

Is he out there because of the horse racing?

formerbabe · 04/01/2015 11:21

Why didn't you go with them op?

ThePinkOcelot · 04/01/2015 11:21

I cant say I blame them tbh. A bit crap on you though. What did you do for Christmas?

esiotrot2015 · 04/01/2015 11:21

Honestly couldn#t you have seen grandparents, friends, goe travelling on your own?

TheRealAmandaClarke · 04/01/2015 11:22

Yanbu
It is thoughtless to change pans at such short notice leaving your dd alone fro Christmas.
I fail to see how age would make a difference, apart from whether or not it was legal to leave you alone in the first place.
Bah humbug to them.

leanmachine · 04/01/2015 11:22

It was too expensive for me to go as I am a student. I didn't mind them going at all but their change of plans did.

OP posts:
Fabulassie · 04/01/2015 11:22

I say YANBU. Your parents blew you off to be with your brother.

scarletforya · 04/01/2015 11:22

I think they should have taken you too. I hope you weren't alone on Christmas.

PurpleSwift · 04/01/2015 11:22

We're you invited?

TidyDancer · 04/01/2015 11:23

I can understand why you were upset but not sure there's anything really wrong with what they've chosen to do. Could you not have gone with them? What have you/they said to each other since they told you?

YouTheCat · 04/01/2015 11:23

That's a bit shitty. So you didn't have Christmas on the day because you thought you'd be having a family Christmas at New Year and then they changed their plans.

My dd is 20 and I can't even contemplate leaving her out at Christmas - though I'd be fine if she had other plans. But no way would I leave her on her own, make promises and then move the goal posts.

esiotrot2015 · 04/01/2015 11:25

when I was a student I spent most christmas' working so it wouldn't have bothered me to be alone

but people are different and you're obviously upset xx
