dd has toast most mornings

then at lunch time we tend to have sarnies wraps etc
we do have a dishwasher but I'm forever loading and unloading
I would recycle them

For toast and sandwiches use a bit of kitchen roll.

Felina · 02/01/2015 20:55

Go for it - excellent idea. I did this for a bit when the DCs were younger. Also you can buy those foil food containers with lids made out of card (like takeaway containers) - make up loads of meals in advance and put in those and freeze them. You can bin those too afterwards!

MinginInTheRain · 02/01/2015 20:57

What a sheer waste. just because something is being recycled doesn't mean it's ok to use it so casually in the first place.

This must be a joke. Am stunned.

Sparklingbrook · 02/01/2015 21:00

Eat toast over the sink or the pedal bin. Or outside. Wink

ChippingInLovesChristmasLights · 02/01/2015 21:05

I couldn't do that, too wasteful and just 'wrong' but I generally shower at least twice a day, so we all have our own less than environmentally friendly habits.

I'd just wash them up, it's not like they're greasy roasting pans. Vid it's really too much effort then use paper towels, but I really don't think it's the best example to set your DD tbh.

Topseyt · 02/01/2015 21:11

Use the lid of the pedal bin as a plate. When finished just put it back on the bin. Job done.

Dogs are also useful for clearing up. Put your used plate on the floor if you have a dog. They will lick it so clean that you can just put it straight back in the cupboard. No-one will know. Grin

Sparklingbrook · 02/01/2015 21:21

Hoover crevice tool under chin whilst eating?

magicpixie · 02/01/2015 21:23

yeah chipping, plenty of people on here that wash towels a million times a day.

I more than make up for is in other areas like I never drive on the school run etc
and lots of other ways

scratchandsniff · 02/01/2015 21:29

I bloody hate washing up but this is really lazy. You've got a dishwasher too. It can't take that long to empty/load surely. A lot of stuff we put in the 'recycling' bin ends up in landfill, so environmentally it's not a great solution. Also IMO not a great example to set children. I have moments of laziness like anyone else but I think it would be a bad habit to get into.

splodgeses · 02/01/2015 21:44

Mrsmorton perhaps the op thinks paper plates would go with her outfit. Who knows? Grin

On the op, I keep paper plates in the kitchen for the occasional snack/dinner in a rush. But I do find it much easier to just rinse, wipe and replace in the cupboard. If there are only two plates at breakfast, then it only takes a couple of minutes.

carlywurly · 02/01/2015 21:47

I bloody hope this is a wind up. Absolutely disgraceful waste if not and an awful example to set any dcs. Hmm

drbadbride · 02/01/2015 21:59

Just to play devil's advocate: everyone is assuming that paper plates are worse environmentally than using a dishwasher. But if you add up the energy, water and chemicals needed to run the machine, is this really the case? It's a bit like the disposable v reusable nappy argument: the green advantage of reusables depends on how you wash/ dry them etc.

WooWooOwl · 02/01/2015 22:03

Just living a normal life has an impact on the environment, you are just choosing to waste paper instead of water.

ImBatDog · 02/01/2015 22:05

do you need to?

if its just toast and then sarnies, just wipe the crumbs off and re-use the plate!

bingo, you halved your washing.

magicpixie · 02/01/2015 22:07

yes good point about the water and chemical and energy waste of dishwasher

maybe I should get one of those draining racks
though and give that a whirl
hand rinsing
tbh the plates don't really get dirty

anyway I also use disposable nappies and wipes which must be far worse

Violetta999 · 02/01/2015 22:16

Eat it off the table? Then just wipe

GingerbreadPudding · 02/01/2015 22:21

Eat toast without plate, wipe crumbs off table with cloth?

slightlyworriednc · 02/01/2015 22:25

Good lord people, she's not killing kittens!
OP, do it. Some of these reactions have made me want to do it too. Stick it to the man!

ChippingInLovesChristmasLights · 02/01/2015 22:31

magic. Serious question. Are you ok? Is it just one of those wee things that really annoys you (I don't have a dishwasher because of the rage it gives me emptying them) or is it something more? It just seems that a couple of plates a couple of times a day pales into comparison to all the other crap you do as a parent and buying paper plates just seems a bit 'extreme'. I just felt a bit funny walking away from the thread laughing at 'giving a draining rack a whirl' and I suddenly thought, what if this is actually magic wanting someone to notice that she needs some real support.

Otoh you could just be seeing how much of a lather you could get everyone inXmas Grin

magicpixie · 02/01/2015 22:32

lol slighty, must admit I do wonder if some of these people drive 4x4s etc

OP posts:
ovaltine · 02/01/2015 22:33

I've often thought about doing this. I
Might give it a trial run for a week

magicpixie · 02/01/2015 22:36

chipping, aw bless you, so caring aren't youSmile

nah I'm ok, just you know how theres certain jobs you hate doing? like say making sarnies, for me loading and unloading the dishwasher is one of those jobs

I actually don't have one of those drainer things

TheSilveryPussycat · 02/01/2015 22:39

Long ago I think Shirley Conran recommended this for after Christmas and the fag end of the summer holidays.

This is therefore an example of retro chic.

magicpixie · 02/01/2015 22:42

oh yes retro chic, I like that Grin

I hate peeling potatoes! Don't tell my mum, but in weeks when I'm feeling flush I buy ready made!
