I have come over all nostalgic at the fab smell!
I have tried to be all modern and have savlon and stuff but I'm back to TCP!. Accidental purchase as was bored in hospital. When I was a kid every thing had TCP put on it!

Its Dettol baths next I tell you! :)

I used to dab it on my spots when I was a teenager. Always worked Grin

waithorse · 01/01/2015 15:59

What do you actually do with the stuff though ?

DrElizabethPlimpton · 01/01/2015 16:00

Revolting stuff.

Many years ago I worked with someone who added TCP to her washing machine, so not only did her clothes smell of it, but the whole office too.

Bettercallsaul1 · 01/01/2015 16:17

Oh, I wouldn't add it to the washing machine! (Unless it had a sore drum or hinge or something. Grin ) What a waste!

ArabellaStrange · 01/01/2015 16:25

I love TCP!

Cauliflowersneeze1 · 01/01/2015 16:26

I love the smell

Tobyjugg · 01/01/2015 17:01

TCP is OK but DW won't have Dettol in the house as the smell makes her puke. I have to keep it in the shed (there is NOTHING Dettol won't dissolve, including superglue).

Bettercallsaul1 · 01/01/2015 17:06

TCP is far superior to Dettol! Dettol is a pale shadow of the elixir of life that is TCP.

auldspinster · 01/01/2015 17:10

On a similar tip, I bought a twin pack of carbolic soap in Poundland yesterday, love the smell!

Bettercallsaul1 · 01/01/2015 17:36

Think you could be pushing it a bit there with carbolic soap, auldspinster! I seem to remember it it had a foul stench without the accompanying, miraculous qualities of TCP!
Are you still scrubbing your carpet, OP?

CundtBake · 01/01/2015 17:48

I love it too! Reminds me of putting it on spots as a teenager. Didn't seem to work much but felt like it should.

I spilt some on a handbag once and ended up having to throw it away six months later as I'd constantly hear passers by saying 'can you smell TCP?' Grin

vinegarandbrownpaper · 01/01/2015 19:05

Carbolic in Poundland!Cooool! is it red??

I love the smell of dettol, and am not keen on TCP, because my mum used to make me gargle with it every day, all winter, to ward off colds - I was a singer and colds were a bad thing.

Not only did I have to gargle with it, but the instructions also said you should drink the last teaspoonful - which was minging!

I also love the smell of Germolene.

AtiaoftheJulii · 01/01/2015 19:18

My dad always put a capful of Dettol in our bath - didn't realise this was a thing, thought he was just odd!

(Bought some TCP last year to clean dd3's newly-pierced ears Smile )

ForalltheSaints · 01/01/2015 20:34

I would like TCP ointment to come back

ChristmasPuddin · 01/01/2015 20:39

I fecking hate TCP. I never encountered it till I met DH; he uses it to treat infected ingrown toenails so every so often he'll use it twice a day for a couple of weeks and it makes the house REEK.

I don't mind Dettol but what I really adore is Savlon. That's what smells, to me, of childhood comfort and bath night and cuddly clean jammies and clean sheets. Sadly DH doesn't think it does anything so we don't buy it.

legoqueen · 01/01/2015 21:30

I love the smell & have trained DS to love it too Grin

Bettercallsaul1 · 01/01/2015 21:53

Yes!!! Bring back TCP ointment too!

JsOtherHalf · 01/01/2015 21:59

Tcp was part of my childhood, I hated it. The smell of it takes me right back though.
I didn't mind germolene.

My granny used gentian violet on my cuts and grazes.

Bartlebee · 01/01/2015 22:05

It's the worst smell in the world.

I have a colleague who has been told about his unspeakable halitosis and he sometimes gargles with it - I'd rather his dog shit bad breath.

auldspinster · 02/01/2015 01:38

The carbolic soap is pink. I also use Euthymol toothpaste which has hints of Germolene.
