AIBU to expect MIL to get my dd's name right?

My dd is 14. FOURTEEN. And yet MIL insists on getting her name wrong. For clarity, and I don't think I will out myself, her name is Joanna, and Mil calls her Joanne. My DP said 'come on mum, get her name right' and she replied 'oh, she knows what I mean'
WIBU to call MIL by another name to see how she likes it?

My MIL insisted on calling my DD by another name. She wanted to be called grandma so we started calling her granny and she hated it. Eventually we called a truce and agreed she would call DD by her real name and we would all use Grandma for her. Funnily enough she had always claimed she used the other name as she couldn't remember but once we made the agreement she never got it wrong again.

Does your MIL have a preference for granny, grandma, nanny or whatever? Lots of grandmothers seem very very certain about what they want to be called so this might work for her.

Another one who loudly adds the 'A' when people get my name wrong. I'm 56 and like others I'm mostly just the shortened version now, but occasionally, clinics, dentists and the like, I get Joanne. I always correct.
As for your MiL OP just ask very sweetly if she's seen the birth certificate, explain that you very carefully put JoannA on it because as far as you were aware it was your choice, if however she wishes to change it, she should discuss it with dd first. This is what I did when my Mother couldn't/wouldn't get my Isabel right. Funny, I did it in public and from that point on she didn't get it wrong again. I don't actually speak to her but dsis informs me that she still makes sure it's right.

My name is a three syllable name beginning with ph , all through my life people have called me Nicola , apparently I look like a Nicola?

I was a very meek , shy child at school who barely opened her mouth but one day when about 13 I shouted at this teacher who had called me Nicola for a whole term " my names not Nicola it's Philippa " she was so shocked ( so was I !) , she made a thing about well you know who I mean etc , I calmly pointed out that clearly I was so unimportant to her that she couldn't even bother to remember my name and it was bad mannered ( my small girls school was obsessed with manners ) , she never got my name wrong again and I got a whole lot more respect from my classmates as well !!

Venereal. Call her Venereal.

Ha ha Euphemia I know exactly wjat you mean about that weird Scottish thing of "sh" for "th"- had relatives who did it. It's a kind of weird affectation but I think it probably started with someone having badly-fitting false teeth!

One of my Grannies was called "Magret" by her whole family. But I think she probably called herself that too! She also talked about "Princess Diane".

I have a name that ends in "eigh", and the "ey" spelling is a bit more common. It always amazes me when people reply to my emails with "dear *ley" when my name was on my email AND is in the email address! How hard can it be to copy what I wrote?

I like Venereal as an option; or you could go for Valium instead. Wink

My friend is called Jenna. Her own cousin calls her Gemma. Confused

Valeria is a name so is Joanne but it is not op's dd's name nor is Valeria mine soI thought it was a) a valid comparison and b) a possible variation to use for grandma :)
