Am I an evil mother?

Sitting in a plane waiting to take off. DD and DH are sitting together. I am one extra seat away by the window. It's not busy, so the seat in between is vacant. Have just had two stewardesses with arms folded looking pityingly at DD saying, you can move, we just thought you may prefer to sit with your child.
Am I evil to want to look out of the window and sip wine today?

I don't get what the problem is! Iv just had dsd staying for a week and she and I were further away from each other on the couch watching TV (corner unit) than you and dd are now!

There is one empty seat between you which means actually if dd is old enough that her books drawing pad etc can go on it in between uses while you are still close enough to engage with her!

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 29/12/2014 16:30

Agree bigblue.

kali110 · 29/12/2014 16:43

Can't believe people are disagreeing with you.
You're one seat away, not one aisle!
You're further away when you go to the toilet!
If the child gets nervous surely the op can just reach her hand over and still reach her child, because it is still only one seat away.

MrsPiggie · 29/12/2014 17:10

yanbu. Happy birthday!

NickiFury · 29/12/2014 17:11

Yes, it's such a non event it's barely worth posting about is it?

AwfulBeryl · 29/12/2014 18:26

Maybe the stewardesses are MNers Wink

Tinks42 · 29/12/2014 18:33

I'm another one saying good for you! Start as you mean to go on I say.

I'd also recommend taking a couple of hours off every day of your holiday too Grin

Happy Birthday.

Whats the saying? Those woth protest too much and all that.

Tinks42 · 29/12/2014 20:51

woth? (can imagine some scrambling around on google right now wondering what it meant) calm down ladies, it was my predictive text getting the word wrong. It should have been a simple "who" Grin

SoleSource · 29/12/2014 21:52

I remember when I cellotaped my baby to the wing of the plane I was sitting inside. Nobody batted an eyelid.

woowoo22 · 29/12/2014 22:23

Hahahaha!

LizzieVereker · 29/12/2014 22:32

Sellotape, Solesource? You spoil that child. Mine had to share a piece of blue tack between them. No-one commented until DC3 was found smoking in the toilet. Not a cigarette, you understand, he was setting fire to his socks to relieve the frostbite from being blutacked to the wing.

Enjoy OP, you are not evil. Wine. But if your DD flunks all her A levels in the future and cites the trauma of this journey as the reason I will deny my part in it

constantlyconfused · 29/12/2014 22:54

Honestly "evil" I must be really evil I have had a holiday without DD once shock horror. At least you took yours with you Xmas Wink Enjoy the peace !

Lmao @ blutack, Lizzie

Tutteredboast · 30/12/2014 19:55

Well, thanks for your replies. We had a lovely flight and I had a lovely birthday, thanks.
I certainly didn't imagine the stewardesses reactions, bigblue. DH was quietly giggling and waggling his finger from the other side of the plane. We were in business class ( yes it is relevant) with a 1 2 1 configuration, so the distance was a bit more than 60cm. I didn't think it was an issue before the stewardesses' reaction.
DD watched Frozen, then came over for a snuggle. Tbh, I think the stewardesses were more concerned that her behaviour could become an issue ( I knew it wouldn't)
It was the longest of 3 flights we took yesterday, so we spent most of the day together in the end.

OP posts:
Lottiedoubtie · 30/12/2014 20:02

Does that mean you and DH were by the windows and she was 'alone' in the middle?

Either way I still don't think Yanbu - no different to sitting accross from her in your living room at home. Although if that's so it does explain the stewardesses consternation as they may have been worried about her behaviour.

woowoo22 · 30/12/2014 20:03

Total non-issue. They are judgy freaks then. Complain, get another free flight then sit in DIFFERENT ROWS Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock
