Quick & Easy DIY Christmas Treats | Zoella:

I'm probably just old, but seriously are teenagers these days so useless at cooking that a video of putting icing on a digestive and snapping a candy Kane in half then filling with chocolate is informative?

OP posts:

ElizabethHoover · 28/12/2014 21:06

mind are bloody fickle arent they then?

TheOfficialPan · 28/12/2014 21:11

Well perhaps not. Being a bit savvy and planning to meet a demand from anxiety-cursed teens. Not such a bad notion.

Trills · 28/12/2014 21:11

I like to read blogs.

Maybe like an older generation read newspapers?

I don't like to watch videos of shit though.

IWannaHoldYourHand · 28/12/2014 21:13

Zoella's alright, a bit vacuous but harmless enough.

I'm a bit in love with Tom from McFly and his wife Giavanna's vlogs Blush

GahLinDah · 28/12/2014 21:13

Xmas Grin Elizabeth, God that girl is as deep as a puddle.

More of our insipid Olivia

MakeMeWarmThisWinter · 28/12/2014 21:16

Serving spaghetti for a dinner party?! I feel bad serving it to my toddler as it's not very interesting.

Trills · 28/12/2014 21:18

You feel bad serving spaghetti?

What do you DO to it to make it not very interesting?

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 28/12/2014 21:24

How do you pronounce "Zoella's" name? Is it:

  1. Zoe Ella; or
  1. Zo Ella; or
  1. Something else?
velourvoyageur · 28/12/2014 21:25

mirandasings is the best blogger

re: youtube, I do feel bad about how Paperlilies and that lot got pushed out.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 28/12/2014 21:25

Who's this Olivia? Who are these folk?

I feel ancient and I'm only 36

MakeMeWarmThisWinter · 28/12/2014 21:25

I just think spaghetti isn't exactly dinner party fare - surely no one over the age of 21 or so does?

I usually do Carbonara, pesto + lemon + Parmesan + rocket, or sundried tomato paste + cream + courgette/onion/chorizo/garlic or as much of that as I can be arsed with given that it's spaghetti and I'm not polishing a turd, just adding vitamins and fibre and some protein.

IWannaHoldYourHand · 28/12/2014 21:27

Gobbo I'd say number 2, Zo-Ella, but I have no idea if that's right.

snozzlemaid · 28/12/2014 21:32

Dd13 informs me it's Zo-Ella.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 28/12/2014 21:33

Ta - I feel a bit more "modern" now I know how to actually say her name!

mamapain · 28/12/2014 21:34

I also think its Zo-ella, but I only know this from watching ViviannaDoesMakeup and LilyPebbles. Both in general I like. Essie Button is another favourite of mine.

The ones I cannot stand are Tanya Burr and Fleur De Force.

I do wish there were more of these people for grown ups. Not in terms of adult content, but more content aimed at adults. I often watch Sali Hughes or Lisa Eldridge and sometimes Caroline Hirons or Ruth Crilly, but outside of the beauty realm, I find them all a bit fluffy. I'd love someone like Marion Keyes, Sharon Horgan or Amy Poehler to do this type of thing.

NettleTea · 28/12/2014 21:35

I thought Zoella was in hiding after spouting off about writing her first novel, and then it being exposed as having been ghost written.

Though her boyfriend did no better - his pointless (give me 5 stars on amazon and I will send you a personal tweet) book was a blatant rip off of the wreck-it journals

NettleTea · 28/12/2014 21:36

my daughter loves an american girl called 'Bunny' who does make up hauls

stardusty5 · 28/12/2014 21:38

I'm a little embarrassed to say that I used to watch zoella's videos when she first started for make up recommendations. There is another called fleurdeforce who aims her audience more at young adults. It's not unlike the style and beauty topic on here really, but then they also make videos about their day to day lives. I sometimes watch them when I'm drying my hair or something to inspire me to try and make an effort with my hair and skincare! I do think I am better at make up because of YouTube.

GahLinDah · 28/12/2014 21:39

Marian Keyes is excellent on Twitter, she's open about her depression and is a really funny lovely lady, and she follows me.

Xmas Grin
SirChenjin · 28/12/2014 21:42

Agree mama. I'd love to read interesting, funny blogs from intelligent women that don't feature fashion, interior design advice or suggestions on how to arrange flowers in my farmhouse in Provence.

If anyone has any suggestions I'd be very grateful Smile

mamapain · 28/12/2014 21:42

Gah, I love Marian on twitter. Sali Hughes recently featured her as part of the 'in the bathroom' series she does on youtube and I loved her even more, thats what made me think she'd be great to do more videos.
